The SpaceWe love our vacation home! Uniquely situated, the house is 10 minutes from the town of Rochester, but high up in the hills on 2 acres of land. The photos do not even begin to do justice to our view.
We have 3 closed bedrooms (2 with queen beds and one with 2 twins) and a queen-sized futon in an open room on the lower level. A deck extends the length of the house and has a 180-degree view of the Green Mountains. One of the highlights of the home is the large built-in stone wood-burning fireplace. Please note: There is a set of stairs to climb to the entrance of the house.
The house is updated in its amenities, but still rustic in its charm. We have a fridge, range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, food processor, coffee machine, extra-large capacity washer and dryer, and small gas grill. Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking all meals. But it still feels like a remote cabin, filled with books to read and large sofas for relaxing in front of the fire. There are heaters in the main rooms on each floor.
We have wi-fi and a smart TV that has a Netflix subscription. But it is in a remote area and the internet can be slow at times. It should always be possible to check email, but may be difficult to stream content at certain times of day or with many computers online.
We also have a highchair, pack-n-play, toys, etc.
Easy drive of 15 minutes or less to great hiking. 30 minutes to four ski resorts-- Sugarbush, Killington, Pico, and Middlebury Bowl.
In the housing community at the bottom of the mountain, there is a swimming pond, two tennis courts, and a play structure for kids. Guest AccessThe whole house will be yours. Everything's included, including firewood, kitchen staples, and toiletries. It is our home and our things, but you are free to use whatever we have in the house, which includes fully stocked kitchen cupboards, plenty of large towels, fluffy bathrobes, and newly reupholstered sofas. Dogs are permitted with prior approval. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be in the home when you are here. You will be letting yourselves into the house. You will be able to reach us via email and phone at any time and we have a local caretaker to contact with any problems. The NeighborhoodIn the community housing, there are 2 tennis courts and a swimming pond. Hiking or snowshoeing is right outside your door.
Rochester is a charming New England town that has a local supermarket and state liquor store. Great local dining includes four stellar choices- an upscale diner for breakfast and lunch (and one of the last soda shops in Vermont), bakery/cafe featuring great coffee, baked goods, and vegetarian fare (and free wifi), School Street Bistro for dinner, and the Huntington House dining room and tavern (often with live music). We also have an art gallery, bike shop, and ski rental in town. There is an organic pick-your-own berry farm just outside of town (blueberries and raspberries!). Tons of hiking, snowshoeing, tubing, etc.
The house is in the Green Mountain National Forest, centrally located to get to great hiking on the Long Trail, cross-country skiing paths, and snowshoeing. We are 30-40 minutes from Killington, Sugarbush, Pico, and Middlebury Bowl. Getting Around**The house is in the Green Mountains, atop a hill, in rural Vermont. In the winter, you will need a car with proper dedicated snow tires, tire chains, or at least all-wheel drive. The roads ARE plowed, as is our driveway, but there is a chance you will be traveling during a snowfall, when roads are a little trickier.** Other Things to NoteThere is a large set of stairs to get into the house.
