The SpaceThe Barbrick was a commercial ship's chandlery during the heyday of Rockport's ice trade, in the 19th century. Recently fully redone, with all new appliances and systems, we have opened the top two floors to vacation rentals. We keep a small pied a terre on the 2nd floor. All linens and sheets are provided. Guest AccessWasher and dryer, parking for two cars (and lots of on street parking for friends), deck with water view and gas BBQ. Interaction with GuestsWe live much of the time on a small island 25 miles offshore, so we are not present much. The NeighborhoodRockport is a delightful, mostly residential village near Camden. Route 1 does NOT go thru the village so it is peaceful and naturally quaint. Camden is less than 2 miles away, filled with shops, restaurants, and tourists. The "big city" of Rockland is 10 minutes south, and has art galleries, movie theaters, and ferries to the islands. There is a good supermarket on the Camden/Rockport line, and several more in Rockland. Getting AroundBikes are a great to get around. Otherwise, cars are essential. There is a bus stop (from Boston) on Rt 1 for Camden/Rockport.

All rates are subject to a 7% State of Maine Lodging Tax; weekly maid-service is included. The house is equipped with wireless access and cable. Outdoor equipment includes Adirondack chairs, large patio table and hammock; well-behaved pets allowed upon approval. More photos available upon request. We accept PayPal; feel free to contact us by telephone to discuss your vacation plans with us directly. Guest AccessThey will be as well accommodated as they would be in a vacation house of their own. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as they like! We are always there for them, 24/7 day and night, by Cell, Text, in person, whatever they need. We have made friends over the years, in some cases without ever meeting them in person. Other guests did not feel the need to meet us, but insisted on meeting our two champion-line German Shepherd stud dogs and rescue Pommeranian, LOL The NeighborhoodMan sieht hier kaum die Nachbarn, es ist ganz offen, frei und privat, dennoch fährt man in wenigen Minuten in schöne historische Hafendörfer und Städchen. Getting AroundFlughafen Portland, Rockland, Bangor, Boston Other Things to NoteOne week minimum Saturday to Saturday in July and August thanks; right now there's an exception for last week in August and til July 18!

The SpaceThe house has an open concept first floor with the sitting room, kitchen and dining area all part of one open space. There are 2 bedrooms (one with a brand new queen bed and the other with a full sized bed) and 2 bathrooms (one with a shower and the other with a shower/tub combo) on the first floor; the 2nd floor has one twin bed and a sitting area. There is a large back deck (with chairs/table and grill) overlooking the private backyard and gardens (the yard is mostly surrounded by woods and very private with frequent deer and turkey sightings). Sheets and towels are provided for you (so please give me an accurate headcount). The kitchen has all of the basic cooking tools but I am not a huge cook so if you are looking for a wide range of pots/pans, etc this might not be the kitchen for you but it seems to work well for most of my guests. I do not have cable TV so only the local stations are available; there is also wireless internet. There is no AC, as 363 days a year it is completely unnecessary (but I have ceiling and window fans for hotter days) Guest AccessThe entire house and yard is yours (but please do not go into the basement which is only used for storage) Interaction with GuestsI am retired and spend most of my time in a town 45 minutes away; I typically leave the key for you. You can reach me on my cell phone if you have any questions or concerns. I can usually be available to stop over if you need assistance with something. The NeighborhoodQuiet dead end street just down the road from Rockport Harbor/Village and Camden; two of the most beautiful towns in New England. Also down the road from the Camden Snow Bowl (the perfect family friendly ski hill) and numerous other outdoor activities and amazing restaurants. Getting AroundYou will need a car Other Things to NoteThis is a lovely but small house on a very quiet dead end street and it is therefore not suited for large groups or hosting gatherings or parties. It is perfect for families with children or one or two couples.

The SpaceBoth bedrooms and the bathroom are on the second floor of the original cape. There are no other rooms on this floor. The main stairway leads from the front door directly to the bedrooms and bathroom. While I am on premises, I am at the other end of the house on the first floor. The space is very separate and private. Guest AccessI have a large deck that visitors can use and they may keep small amounts of food and drink cool in the fridge. I provide a simple breakfast, of coffee, juice,muffins/bagels and fresh fruit. Interaction with GuestsFor the most part, I will be available to help guests with directions and suggestions to help make their stay enjoyable. I travel often and use AirBnBs. I have found that I enjoy the AirBnBs most when host is on the site because he/she will have local information about the area that is not found on line or in guidebooks. The NeighborhoodRockport is a lovely, small New England town. Houses display character that has been developed over the decades and in some case centuries. The Rockport Harbor, some say , is the most beautiful in Maine and it is within walking distance from my house Getting AroundRockport is very small and there is no public transportation. However taxis are available. But, for the most part people walk or drive. The larger town of Camden is only a mile and a half away, Other Things to NoteRockport is a very small town (2500 residents). It has two very good restaurants (walking distance from the house and some excellent walking trails) It is only 1.5 miles from Camden and 7 miles from Rockland. Both offer a wide variety of amenities.

The SpaceNEW LISTING FOR 2015! Few rental homes in the Midcoast area offer as much space and comfort as Spring Mountain House. Two separate living rooms make it easy to find space to relax. Feeling up for fun and games? Head to the pool table in the playroom on the second floor, the ping-pong table in the basement, or set up croquet or corn hole in the backyard! Relax with your morning coffee on the huge deck surrounded by trees and a distant view of the ocean and enjoy your evening cocktail in the screened porch enjoying the glow of the sunset. Spring Mountain House offers 5 bedrooms, including a master suite on the main level, and plenty of indoor and outdoor space (and toys!) to keep children entertained. At the top of Spring Mountain are trails that connect to the Ragged Mountain Preserve, fabulous for trail runners, hikers or mountain bikers. Two ponds at the base of the mountain are great for fishing, or even some easy canoeing. There is no shortage of entertainment within 10 minutes: peruse local, fresh produce at the farmers' markets, enjoy an evening sail on one of the many schooners out of one of the harbors, pick your own blueberries, hike the mountains in Camden Hills State Park, swim in the gorgeous lakes, dine at some of the top rated restaurants in the state! Up for a day trip? Boothbay Harbor is just an hour away and Acadia National Park is a 2.5 hour drive. So much to explore, you may need to stay more than one week! Spring Mountain House is obviously a great fit for larger families or multigenerational vacations. However, it's unique set up also easily accommodates 3 smaller families vacationing together. Each end of the long hallway upstairs has 2 bedrooms and a full bath, giving two families privacy. A third family could have the master suite on the main level with kids either in sleeping bags on the floor (plenty of floor space!), or up in the playroom on the pull-out couch. As an added bonus, our cleaning service uses organic products and vacuums with allergy filters. We are a totally pet free home. Other Things to NoteWith so much socializing in town, it sure is nice to be able to hide away at home! Our large deck (with grill and fire pit) overlooking the yard, offers the perfect spot to relax at the end of fun-filled summer days. And while the trails at Camden Hills are often bustling with hikers, the trails at the top of our street are almost exclusively ours! We chose this house in particular for both its beauty and its location. Darby's office is in Rockland, but the kids are in school in Hope and Camden. This house is 10 minutes from each! The huge fieldstone fireplace at the center of the house was the clincher for us. It give the home a heart. The windows all around bring the surrounding woods right inside; they mix beautifully with the wood features and create a very cozy feeling in a large home.

The NeighborhoodRockport is what a coastal Maine village is supposed to look like! One of the very prettiest harbors in Maine. Getting AroundNo public transportation. Other Things to NoteThe house is on a hillside and is accessed by a stairway. The bedrooms are on the upper floor and accessed by an antique stairway which is quite steep. There is a carport which holds one car (two if parked very tight). There is no air conditioning in the house - seldom needed, but if it should get too warm there are fans which guests can use. PLEASE NOTE: Maine does require us to charge an 8% lodging tax which is not included in the rental fee. We ask that guests bring a check payable directly to the Maine Dept of Revenue for this tax amount. Thanks.
