The SpaceOvens Reef House stands near the edge of a cliff overlooking Rose Bay on Nova Scotia’s South Shore. A two-story Cape and a two story salt box cottage are flanked by forest and surrounded by lawn. There are three bedrooms in total. The location is secluded but not remote. The village of Kingsburg, Hirtle's Beach and the hiking trails of Gaff Point are 20 minutes distant by car. Lunenburg and Mahone Bay, 30 mins. The “infinity lawn” runs along the cliff's edge and provides elevated, breath-taking views of Rose Bay, Ovens Reef and the Atlantic. Although modest in its proportions the property has a grand, estate-like disposition. The house was designed in the Cape Cod-style with an open plan interior. On the ground floor there is no formal separation between the hallway, salon, library, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is made of concrete and features a butcher-block island and glass bar. The hob is a six-burner Wolf gas range. Adjacent to the kitchen is a pantry. Everything you will need, and more, is provided to prepare and serve meals. A combined laundry and mudroom, as well as a half bath, complete the open plan of the ground floor. The library contains a modest, eclectic and eccentric collection of classics, pot-boilers, history, biography, journalism, and obscure tracts. A staircase in the lofty entrance hall climbs up to a spacious landing on the second floor. It is flanked by two bedrooms and a master bath. The master bedroom has a king-size bed and captivating views of Rose Bay. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. Both bedrooms have extensive storage: closets, drawers and built in wardrobes of birch and maple. The tub in the master bath and separate shower area both provide diverting views of Rose Bay. Internet, telephone (local calls) and cable television are available. Bath towels and linen provided. Arrangements can be made for laundry and cleaning on a weekly basis. Please enquire about fees. Guest AccessYou will have the run of the main house, cottage and grounds. There is no beach below the cliff in front of the house, but the rocky shore is walkable at low tide. Nearly everything you will need to make your stay comfortable is provided. Note: the main house and cottage are always let together. Minimum stay 1 week. Interaction with GuestsWe will make every effort to greet you on arrival if you would like us to do so. If not, no worries. There is a house manual for reference and we don't live far away if there are any questions, or if assistance is required. Our nearest neighbours know the house and the area well, and they are more than happy to help or answer questions if we cannot be reached. The NeighborhoodThe house is about 30 minutes drive from Lunenburg and 20 minutes to Kingsburg and Hirtle's Beach. The Ovens Park is a 10 min walk down the road. But more importantly, the neighbourhood is quiet. Getting AroundThere is no public transport. Vehicle will be required. Other Things to NoteThe house and cottage are provisioned for 6 adults. Additional guests are not permitted without prior consent. Addtional fees will apply. Let on a weekly basis. Cottage is not available on its own. It is included whether or not it will be occupied. Owing to the owner's allergies this is a pet free home.

The SpaceLocated on an island, accessible by car, we offer a combination of seclusion and easy access to many things to do. Our property offers charm and privacy (the view from our house over the ocean offers few glimpses of civilization), yet is located in a vibrant island community, on the most populated of the two dozen islands which make up the LaHave Islands. We’re also and in an area of the South Shore which has much to offer tourists. Just 7-minutes from the mainland, with all sorts of activities on the popular South Shore. Our kitchen has just been renovated. It has new cabinets, beautiful Brazilian soapstone counters, new stainless appliances (including a glass-top stove, french door fridge with icemaker, dishwasher, farmhouse sink, and new dim-able, 3-color temperature lighting under the counters. It's fully equipped with a microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker and grinder, food processor and quality kitchenware. We wish you happy cooking! At the house... swimming, kayaking, lawn games, lounging on our 5 decks, gazebo and dock, pick wild blueberries and raspberries, or just relax, listening to the seagulls and watching fishing boats in the bay. In the evening, enjoy spectacular sunsets over the cove, and light a fire in our outdoor fire pit to roast marshmallows. On the island... walking scenic roads, coffee houses at an island hall (summer season), a fisheries museum, government wharf. On nearby Crescent Beach... people love to park their cars on the beach, walk their dogs, surf, kite-board, stroll the beach at sunrise and sunset, and of course, swim! Half a dozen beaches are within a 10-minute drive, including Risser's Beach Provincial Park, complete with a fine-sand beach with lifeguards, boardwalk along a back marsh, visitor’s center, a snack bar and shower facility. Guest AccessThe house will be all yours. We won't be living at our home when you stay there. Interaction with GuestsWe provide detailed information about what to expect while at the house, directions, and a list of things to do in the area. I always call guests the evening they arrive and am always reachable by phone or email for issues which may arise. We have a local property manager/handyman who will assist with any issues that may arise. The NeighborhoodExceptional beauty and solitude, yet there's so much to do on the mainland, just minutes away. Along the Lighthouse Route on the mainland are lots of craft and antique shops, artist studios, restaurants, museums, and historical sites (like Fort Point Museum in LaHave, where the French first landed in Canada in 1604). You can take in musical events, county fairs, farmers’ markets, art shows, ox pulls and more. For sporting activities, you can rent kayaks, golf at several courses, go horseback riding, and enjoy the resort at White Point Beach, where you can get a day pass to use the pools, yard games, and boats. Don't miss the most famous bakery in Nova Scotia, the LaHave Bakery (15 minutes away), where you can sit down in its quaint dining area and enjoy an amazing breakfast or lunch. Another guest favorite is 'The Ovens,' which is a series of ocean caves accessible by wooded walkways, where the waves pound in and out. At Ross Farm, children will love to see a “working” farm where they still raise animals and grow crops. And bake sales and lobster suppers in community halls all over the area are delicious! Getting AroundWe are not super-close to any public transportation, though a bus service which runs from Yarmouth to Halifax stops in Bridgewater, about 30 minutes from our house. Convenient stores are 7-10 minutes away. Shopping at large grocery and a variety of other stores is in Bridgewater. Halifax Airport is 1.5 hrs away. Yarmouth ferry is 2:15 away. Other Things to NoteBoating: Floating dock attached to land-based ramp can accommodate up to a 17-foot boat. A wooden slip can also be used for kayaks. Kid Friendly: A kid's paradise, between a large yard to romp around, a dock and rocks to climb around on at the waterfront, and woods to explore. Many books, games, and some toys for tots. Connectivity: Satellite TV, wireless Internet and great cell phone service. Pet Friendly: Huge yard for dogs to play in. Pets are welcome, but we charge a $100 non-refundable pet fee.

We are charging the same as we did in early 2015. View the Fennel Old house video on YouTube. Experience Nova Scotia island-living at its finest at the Fennel Old House. Our renovated turn-of-the-century home (accessible by car) sits on a spectacular multi-acre oceanfront site, just 30-feet from the water. Bordered by woods on three sides, it overlooks a picturesque rocky cove and wide bay. The only house you can see from our front deck is a mile across the bay! Guests have called the 180-degree view one of the most amazing they've ever experienced. Included is a brand new dock where you can tie up a boat and swim. The SpaceLocated on an island, accessible by car, we offer a combination of seclusion and easy access to many things to do. Our property offers charm and privacy (the views from our house over the ocean offer few glimpses of civilization), yet is located in a vibrant island community, on the most populated of the two dozen islands which make up the LaHave Islands. We’re also and in an area of the South Shore which has much to offer tourists. Just 7-minutes from the mainland, with all sorts of activities on the popular South Shore. At the house... Inside, enjoy spacious rooms with high ceilings with huge windows and skylights that let in plenty of light. Light a fire in the wood stove for romantic evenings. Outside, enjoy ocean views from our 3 decks, viewing soaring seagulls and watching fishing boats in the bay. On the island... walking scenic roads, coffee houses at an island hall (summer season), a fisheries museum, and government wharf. On nearby Crescent Beach, people love to park their cars on the beach, walk their dogs, surf, kite-board, stroll the beach at sunrise and sunset, and of course, swim! We have a local property manager/handyman who will assist with any issues which may arise. Other Things to NoteSatellite TV, wireless Internet and great cell phone service. Pets are welcome, but we charge a $100 non-refundable pet fee.
