The SpaceThis is a nice 400 sq. ft. room with a Tuscan feel in decor. This has a futon queen bed--but not like most futon's. This has a wonderful mattress and you do not feel the slats. It is very comfortable. There is a large flat screen TV hanging above a fireplace. There is also a blue ray disc player. Two Craftsmen style chairs. A small table with four seats. Lots of space. Windows to the back look out to the wild forest like area. No smoking in the house but we have two nice covered smoking areas in the front and back. Doors lock with key. Blinds all the way around for complete privacy. Spacious shared bathroom. Wild life seen occasionally. Only 20 minutes from down town Roseburg, 1 hr. 45 min. from Eugene, 15 minutes from Wildlife Safari which is a ride through wild life park. 30 minutes to our local casino. Quiet place with no small children and no pets. In our home, you get the feeling of being at a home and not a hotel in a rural community. Depending on what I am fixing for our dinner, there may be an occasional time that I will invite a guest for a home cooked meal. We also have an excellent diner about 5 min. from here with great service. There are also a few fast food type of places. This price includes a fruit and sweets in the morning and coffee or tea. Are you hauling a large trailer? We have room to park that, although it is on the other side of the property, but lots of room. Coming to stay for an event? Private, secluded river beach at the end of the farm field with a "treehouse deck" above an beautiful "all-ages" swimming hole on the main Umpqua River; kids' play structure; large gas grill; front deck overlooking Valley's End Farm and the Callahan mountains; private back deck attached to the master bedroom/bathroom looks at Tyee mountain and the pinot vineyard. The house is filled with antiques and art--- rustic, quirky elegance. Are you a plein-aire painter or a photographer? Wonderful, constantly-changing light! A fly-fisherman? Take a look at the winter steelhead that was caught right opposite our swimming beach in February! Guest AccessYou have several private acres of land out of our 30 to relax on, with two outside decks and a children's play structure. Off-street free parking for 4 (or many more) cars. We are an organic farm, with no spraying---lots of vegetables in season! Walk across our yard to the road on the south side of the field, next to the orchard, and go down to our 800+ feet of river frontage on the main branch of the Umpqua River (10 minutes' walk, 3 minutes' drive). Interaction with GuestsJerry and Kevin have had Valley's End Farm for more than 30 years. We live in the big old farm house next door; we'll greet you upon arrival, then disappear! Your house is private and out of our sight, but we are nearly always available for questions or chatting, and Ms. Kevin loves to discuss travel ideas. (She can be reached at any time on her cell, (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).) I am a locavore and know all about the wineries and food-producing farms in the area--- this place is called "Garden Valley" for a reason! We will (rarely) be sharing the 800+ feet of private river frontage and/or the deck with you, if the afternoon is hot and we have guests--- but there is room for all. The NeighborhoodGo wine tasting! There are numerous prize-winning wineries in every direction; flyers are in the box on table by door. (The Umpqua Valley is now the 4th-most visited wine region in the country. Look up the Reustle Winery half a mile away---and Cooper Ridge winery or Hillcrest {best wine I've had outside of Italy:) }and many others.) Are you a writer or artist? Peace and quiet and lovely, changing views. There is also bicycling, swimming or floating the deep green Umpqua river, fishing--- or take a beautiful 45-minute drive to the North Umpqua River for world-famous fly fishing, white-water rafting, waterfalls, mountain-climbing and many miles of hiking trails. The Callahans, (mountains in the view across the river) are famous for rock-climbing. Crater Lake is a 2-hour drive and can be a gorgeous day trip up the North Umpqua past Diamond Lake. Golfing is 6 miles away from us; Umpqua boat landing, 3/4 mile. 1 hour to the amazing Oregon coast for beach-combing, whale-watching, charter fishing or storm-watching. (Bandon ---2 hours--- is especially stunning--- and has 2 world-class golf courses, Bandon Dunes and Bandon Crossings.) A quarter-mile away from us is the Lighthouse Bakery and Cafe--- wonderful (and generous!) vegetarian lunches from 11:00 until 3:00, great sticky buns and fabulous brick-oven artisanal bread.... hot from the oven at 11 a.m.! Be sure to go up behind the restaurant to the rose-covered gazebo to eat. (Closed Mondays) The Wildlife Safari (Winston, OR) is a GREAT attraction, 40 mins away. Camel rides, "train" ride-- drive through the free-roaming animals and rolling countryside-- watch out for the emu poking her head in your window! (And one of the camels, maybe, too.) Famous cheetah-breeding program, along with other big cats, herds of wandering African animals, including elephants and giraffes... 25 minutes away, in Roseburg, is the Douglas County Historical Museum---a great rainy-day destination for the whole family. Fascinating pioneer and early-logging exhibits you can climb on. There are many u-pick organic vegetable/fruit farms close-by in the summer ---many gardens in "Garden Valley", for sure, including ours! In season, please pick our tomatoes, plums, apples, Asian pears, Triple-Crown blackberries, raspberries… and ask if the chickens are producing eggs! Getting AroundThere is no public transportation -- car required. Nearest town, gas station and shopping needs are 7 miles away in Sutherlin. (Roseburg, a bigger town with better groceries, is 15 miles south). The Lighthouse Bakery and Cafe a quarter-mile away has some staples (no eggs); don't forget about the fantastic bread and lunches-to-go to bring back to your own quiet deck. Other Things to NoteIf you would like to put your (or our two) air mattresses in the living room, an additional two to four to six people can be accommodated. (RV electric hook-up possible---just ask. No sewer hookup.) Lots of room for tents under the stars! During the harvest season, ask about fruit/berries/veggies (especially tomatoes!) you can pick---- make some fresh-raspberry pancakes in your beautiful kitchen. If the chickens are laying, I will have eggs in the fridge for you! Please remember this is a working organic farm surrounded on all sides by working, busy vineyards and orchards...lots of farm machinery activity early for about 6 weeks on late-summer or early-fall mornings, but in the end---wine! We have two friendly dogs and a cat--- they may come over to say hi, but will certainly not intrude, and certainly will not endanger anyone. ALL guests beyond 6 count as "extra guests", at $10 a night. ALL CHILDREN, NO MATTER WHAT AGE--- INCLUDING INFANTS--- COUNT AS "EXTRA GUESTS", beyond 6 guests. Please be sure they are all included in your reservation before you get here. Thanks. PLEASE ask about dogs.... please tell me beforehand if they are coming, and what kind they are. Remember that they can run free in the fenced field down by the river---but need to be on leash on the walk down to the river. I will point you in the right direction. When they are around the outside of the house they should be leashed if they do not respond perfectly, as there is no fence as yet, and the road is right there. The pet fee is not included in the AirBnB charge; it is payable to me personally. Thanks. *THERE WILL BE A $25 ONE-TIME/PER-PET FEE ADDED AFTER BOOKING*

This historic house, circa 1895, was moved ten blocks into the Mill Pine National Historic District to preserve it with other houses of the same vintage. Updated since, to include indoor bathroom and shower, tiled kitchen with automatic dishwasher, garbage disposal, water, electricity, central gas heating, insulation, washing machine and dryer, cable TV and WiFi. All improvements not available when the house was built. This house is contemporary with Roseburg's becoming the county seat of Douglas County and the city's founder, Aaron Rose. It is a great location from which to visit the rest of the nation's first working man's residential district and many interesting homes on the National Register. The sportsman will also find this a base for fishing and recreating on the Umpqua River. The Pacific Ocean and Crater Lake and Diamond Lake are within two hours drive. The south Umpqua River and a county boat launch facility is only a few blocks away. The wine connoisseur has the choice of many winery's producing Oregon's finest vintages. The oldest winery in Oregon, Hillcrest Vineyard , where Pinot Noir became the favored grape is certain to be on your winery tasting tour of Douglas County vineyards. This small home is just over 1000 square feet. The two bedrooms each have a queen size bed. The one restroom has a shower. The kitchen has a micro wave, stove/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher etc. The washer and dryer can be used on extended stays. There is a dinning area and cable tv in the living room. Nothing fancy but comfortable.
