The SpaceHi there, my name is Liz and our house is in a Conservation Area on top of one of the three highest places in London, Shooters Hill. In the olden days the Highway men would hold up the stage coaches on the hill to rob the passengers going to and from London. We are close to the bus route to Greenwich Park and the O2 Arena, the train stations and Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are on the bus route and it is 30 mins by train to Central London and two stops on the DLR from Woolwich station to City Airport, there is also an excellent local taxi service. Coming by car we are 20 mins from the M25/A2 junction, there is parking outside the house and the area is so quiet you could be in the country. We have a park and woods 100 metres down the road where there are spectacular views over the river Thames, and Oxleas Woods which is 1000 year old plus woodland 5mins walk away. The tennis club and golf club are just round the corner. As well as London, the pretty county of Kent " The garden of England" is on the doorstep along with many National Trust and English Heritage properties. Our house is a 1930's design with a garden to front and rear and the room for guests is a twin bedded room the room is not en-suite but sharing the bathroom is not a problem. If you are attending a course at Shrewsbury House Centre it is only a five minute walk away. We have internet connection. We have many local maps and information on places of interest to visit for guests to browse through. There are numerous resturants and Pubs in the area particularly Blackheath Village and Welling, all accessible by bus if you do not have a car. We would like to think we are good hosts, we enjoy meeting people and sharing our home, we do have a cat so if you have an allergy perhaps our home is not the place to stay unless an antihistamine tablet takes care of that problem!. Prefered age group 30+ Time of arrival and departure will be dependant on our commitments and visitors requirements however everything is flexible!! additional nights may be available by arrangement. Guest AccessAll areas of the house and garden. Interaction with GuestsI will always be thee to welcome them if and if required and possible I will collect from the railway station. Simple breakfast will be provided, packed lunch and supper could be a possibility depending on visitors requirements and my commitments. I am happy for guests to share my relaxation space if they wish or spend time in their room or the garden room at the rear of the house, there is no TV in these rooms but of course guests could always watch on their computer/tablet app! The NeighborhoodIt is quiet, near to woodland, river Thames, parks, particularly Greenwich Park, yet only 30 mins to London Charing Cross Station and all the city has to over a look on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps, the Greenwich and Shooters Hill websites will show you what an amazing area I live in. If you are a car traveller the beautiful countryside of West Kent and its many National Trust Properties arr only a short drive away Getting AroundYes, two train stations a bus ride away and buses down to the O2 arena where you can catch the river bus up to central London. Junction 2 M25 15 mins away Other Things to NoteMany enjoyable walks from the doorstep, Have a look at Oxleas Wood and Jack Wood both in the SE18 area.

The SpaceOne of our friends described it as ‘a Victorian town-house wrapped around a country vicarage’, and it is an unusual house - crammed with paintings and the kind of curiosities more often found in museums than ordinary homes. We’re only 20 minutes by train from London Bridge and 3 other central stations, the DLR to Canary Wharf is only 15 minutes away and City airport is about 20 minutes by cab - but on a sunny day the garden feels like a slice of the Kentish countryside. Many of our guests who have come for a conference or concert at the O2 have been delighted to find that we're just a short bus ride away from the riverside complex. Charlton is a small village on a hill overlooking the Thames Valley with one of the finest views in southern England – or it was until the 20th-Century. Nonetheless it still has a fine Jacobean mansion at its heart and something of the village high street still remains. But these days it is more famous for its football team than its fruit trees. Our house is halfway up the hillside in a quiet area of Victorian terraces that mercifully escaped the Blitz and looks over gardens towards the Thames Barrier and the morning sun. Your room is a large double bedroom with plenty of wardrobe space, a big bay window and a strange painting of a girl in a fur coat. The recently refitted bathroom is just down the hall and is shared with our two grown-up daughters when they come to visit, otherwise it’s all yours. Things to do: Rather obviously, just about anywhere in Central London is accessible within 40 minutes – Tate Modern is a 10 minute walk along the riverside from London Bridge, passing Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the way; St Paul’s is then just across the Millennium Bridge from there. Trains from Charlton go direct to Charing Cross as well so all the West End theatres, restaurants, the National Gallery and so on can be walked to from there. If you’ve had enough of the big city the bus stop just outside will take you to Blackheath village in about 15 minutes where you can sit outside the pub and watch the kites flying over the heath or try any of its many great restaurants – Buenos Aires does about the finest steak in South London and Handmade Food on Tranquil Vale will perfectly cater to your conscience. There’s a great farmer’s market on Sunday mornings too in fact. And Greenwich of course is just up the river, you can take a boat from the O2 to the Cutty Sark about every 15 minutes. Just around the corner from this famous and now fully-restored Tea Clipper is the National Maritime Museum, heaving with naval history and on the hill behind in the park is the Royal Observatory and international meridian – a small bronze strip that stretches all around the world. Or, if you have the energy, you could walk (or cycle) up the Thames path all the way into Central London. It’s about 4 miles. Or... well, whatever you do we hope you’ll find our house friendly, interesting and terribly convenient and we really look forward to meeting you! Getting AroundWe're a 5 minute walk to the station for trains to London Bridge and Cannon Street which run every 10 minutes and take 17 minutes to Central London; it's a short bus ride to the Jubilee Line and the River boat. There's a bus stop across the road that will take you to Blackheath in less than 10 minutes.
