Originally from London he came here as a Backpacker over 30+ years ago and has never looked back. As John is still at work you will have the house at your disposal during the day, and in the evening we can socialize together or he will respect your need for privacy. The SpaceThe room is private, with either 1 single bed, 1 double bed, OR a double AND a single bed, hanging space, shelves, folding table, fan, chair, bed lamps, hair dryer, power points, all linen & towels. It gets morning sun. It's budget priced, but extremely relaxed, clean & comfortable. The house is historic, over 100 years old. It's close to everything you need in Sydney. Guest AccessBathroom with full bath, kitchen, lounge room with TV, in fact the whole of the house except the owner's & my flatmate's bedrooms. There's side, as well as front, access, so you don't have to carry luggage up stairs. There's no wifi right now - I travel a lot myself & use high-speed mobile broadband [there are also several aircon cafes nearby with free wifi]. There is a modem available that connects up to 10 devices. You can put credit on that during you stay if you need it. There's a lovely small courtyard at the back that gets afternoon sun & a front verandah that gets morning sun. Interaction with GuestsMy interaction with guests is usually minimal, because my guests are usually very independent and I have my own busy lifestyle. I have to be away from Sydney from time to time, but I'm always available to answer questions by phone, text or email. There are also several guidebooks, and many maps, timetables and brochures available. The NeighborhoodThe Balmain peninsula is one of the oldest areas in Sydney. It has gorgeous old sandstone & wooden buildings everywhere. I love that it's very close to the harbour - you can see the harbour bridge from our street. I like the large selection of friendly cafes & pubs & weekend markets, harbourside parks, the wide diversity & friendliness of the people. I love that I can get to work in 15 minutes door-to-door. Getting AroundThere are very frequent buses into & out of the city from a bus stop just around the corner. There are ferries from 3 Balmain wharves, a reasonably short walk away. There are also light rail stations a short distance away. Other Things to NoteIf there's just one of you, it's a very spacious room. If you are 2 friends travelling together I can put in another single bed. If you're a couple, I can add a double bed.

If you fancy a walk, you can stroll over the Anzac Bridge and you be in Darling Harbour and the city in 25 minutes. Other Things to NoteRozelle is possibly the hottest property spot in Sydney right. It seems everyone wants to move here and yet its charm is being preserved and enhanced. The locals care passionately about every aspect and it shows.

The SpaceThe studio apartment has rustic lime-washed wooden floorboards, high ceilings, a large recently appointed bathroom and a very comfy queen bed. The living/ bedroom is approx 10 metres x 4m with two big wooden windows, a comfy sofa, small fridge, kitchenette incl electric oven, cooktop and microwave. Cosy rugs(all linens and crockery etc provided...just bring your suitcase!) add a warm touch. The space has been very nicely decorated (I am an ilustrator/designer and the house has been photographed over the years for several magazine spreads) and is a real home away from home with a big wardrobe to stash your stuff. Just 10 metres from the house is a wonderful little park (O'connor Reserve) which you walk through to the zillion buses that can take you into the city in 5 mins:) Incredibly convenient place, situated near the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. The studio apartment sits at the front of my house but has its own private entrance and a gorgeous little covered verandah with wooden chairs that you can sit on and watch the world go by. It is very private and self-contained. (I am not always in residence by the way, but am very happy to help out when I am). There is occasionally the sound of people walking by as it fronts onto the street, but the majority of people haven't found this a problem. As it is almost like city living (convenience) but with a country feel (outlook), you get a bit of both:) There's a flat screen tv too and yes...air con and brand new washer and dryer. You will be very comfortable in this little pod, rest assured! You just might not want to move out again! (Note: re the pix on this site: lounges and artworks get moved into different configurations at times, but it's always pleasant and generous!) Rozelle is a great little neighbourhood, pubs and cafes on just about every corner, shops a 5 min walk away, gorgeous rambling parks and lots of arty haunts - including one of sydney's best 'flea markets' on the weekends, a 5 min walk away!. You'll love it if you don't know it already! Parking is off street and we usually don't have a problem parking outside:) Welcome to the little quirky Pod~! The SpaceI have a gorgeous 'designy' but character-filled 2 bedroom weatherboard cottage in the inner city suburb of Rozelle, right near the city (5 mins by bus). I let the house periodically when I am away myself so it is often available but not always. Please email me with any queries. The individuality and light in the house is the main thing you will notice. Also that a fertile sub-tropical garden can be seen and enjoyed from every room. The romantic, generously proportioned bedroom just about sits in the garden, which wraps around two sides. It looks out to the very handsome St Josephs church from the window, which glows pink and gold at (URL HIDDEN) unimpeded view from the bed should you be feeling so inclined! Though the house is absolutely charming in its 'vintagey' way, it does 'keep up with the times' too: lovely modern bathroom, mod cons including air con in the bedrooms, and two flat screen tv's. The garden can be plundered for herbs and vegies depending on time of year, and there are several wonderful 'outdoor sitting areas' available for your morning or afternoon tea to be taken, outdoor cushions provided. Considering how close the house is to the hub of the city, it is nice and quiet, with only ambient and the usual neighbourhood sounds to contemplate. All living is done out the back, around my lovely private garden. The house is filled with my rather eclectic artworks and collections - I love 'vintage' anything so if you're into that you will love 'Quirky Way'. It and its owner have been photographed many times for magazine shoots over the years.. It's a place with the kind of 'take me home' charm that you just might not want to leave behind! There is a great new organic cotton mattress in the main queen sized bedroom. There is room for a third person to sleep in the second bedroom(doubles as an office when I'm there) , in a sweet old cast iron bed with gorgeous new comfy mattress also! Both rooms look out onto the garden so you never feel 'hemmed in'. There is a good gas hob/cooker in the kitchen and all the pots pans and cooking things you could need, the shower runs on gas hot water that just about never runs out, there is a heavenly full-sized bath in the bathroom and a small gas BBQ outside if you're feeling outdoorsy of an evening. The neighbourhood is lovely, quiet and close knit...the house is near the end of a sweet cul-de-sac with a generous park at the end of it. Buses galore leave from Victoria rd, a 3 min walk through the park. There are so many great little restaurants and shops in Rozelle that you will want for nothing. The 'Three Weeds' is literally 4 mins walk away- a landmark Sydney pub...these days it is very classy with good food! Also there is a gorgeous walk all the way along Darling st that I highly recommended that takes you to the next 'village' of Balmain. This is a very historic and engaging area of Sydney...and what a way to enjoy it by having a few special nights in a special 'quirky' place:) The NeighborhoodIts so friendly and mostly very quiet! SHOPPING/GROCERIES Folks tell me they do very well just at the IGA EXPRESS in Rozelle. (649 Darling st, Rozelle) It is a 10 min walk, up victoria Rd, turn right, a block or two down on your left, amongst all the cafes etc. Or there is the big WOOLIES in Balmain, if yr driving, or fancy a 20 min walk all along Evans st. Or: there is a sweet little grocery store that has a lot of things you may need the next street down. There is also a nice oval down there for a jog if you need one! It’s called Easton Park Grocery Store (Denison St, cnr Alfred) and is run by locals and, it is, well, nice:) friendly, local. You can walk thru the creamy brick housing estate adjacently across the street to get there:) It’s a sweet little stroll! BELLE FLEUR - 658 Darling St, Rozelle Make world class chocolates. Truly delectable. Belgian cocoa...just divine! BREAD : 660 Darling St, Rozelle, ‘Victoire’ up on Darling st OR there’s a little french Bakery at the end of Red Lion st (off Evans) called ‘La Bacanz’ that does nice loaves and croissants etc too. There’s quite a few nice little day cafes around here:)+ Essential Ingredient also for the foodies:) LA GRANDE BOUFFE - 758 Darling st Rozelle is good for a semi-posh dinneror lunch. V good quality nice fresh French food, usually served with wonderful free ACCENT! The oddly named ‘Egg of the Universe’ (711 Darling St, Rozelle) cafe is for the more herbally (URL HIDDEN) does good coffee and great breakfast...with meat too!Yoga too, many times daily. DONT MISS ROZELLE MARKETS Saturdays and Sundays- early (about 7.30am) til about 3pm held in the Rozelle Public School on Darling st. A Famous and lovely flea market. Also good: Orange Grove Market Saturday mornings 8am-1pm. (Orange Grove Public School, cnr Perry/Balmain Rds, Leicchardt) A leisurely 20 min walk along Lilyffield Rd on a saturday morning. Fabulous fresh produce. AROUND THE AREA BEST PUBS/GRUBS: ‘The 3 Weeds’, AKA: The Rose, Shamrock + Thistle up at 197 EVANS ST. Walk up to the park (O’connor Reserve), veering to the left once you’re in it, you will see the park continues over to some houses on the left, walk that way, take the exit, and you should find that that is EVANS st (there’s a red post-box there too), Turn left, walk about 50 metres and there’s the pub.Great food out the back in the bar, and the ‘proper’ restaurant is hatted. THE RUBY is up on victoria Rd on the edge of the park. It does some nice grub and decent drinks, though if yr a cocktail fan the Weeds is it! The Corner Bar, up at 632 Darling St - across the other side from the IGA.(see below) It is a great little small, buzzy bar with groovy food and drinks. Getting Aroundany bus above 501 will take you straight into town from Victoria rd THE LOWDOWN ON THE LOCAL STUFF/GETTING AROUND BUSES I get the buses with numbers over 501 straight into the city from VICTORIA RD, which is the very big road you probably came in on. There are a few bus stops close by but I use the one opposite the big BP Petrol station. I get there by walking thru the little park that is at the end of Quirk St, walking straight up towards Victoria Rd, and crossing over at the lights. It’s about 20 metres from there. To catch the bus from here without a ticket may be a problem during peak hours, however. You are best to hunt down a TRAVEL TEN or day pass from a newsagent or 7-11 store. There is a tiny little shop right near the bus stop that is open somewhat sporadically. TAXIS call 131 008 or 132 522 CAR There is a visitors permit on the fridge, please use if if you’re parking your car in the street daily. PLEASE do not forget to return it:) It is GOLD!:) Other Things to NoteHope you don't mind watering the garden during your stay:)

The SpaceMy home is available for the months of July August and September each year, and I would prefer a long term tenant. Being an artist my home is very colourful and eclectic. I have been creating, adding to and evolving this spacious, bohemian, loft style home for the past 23 years giving it a most unique ambience. As a result my home is often used as a location and has appeared in several magazines, including the 'Sydney Magazine', 'Real Living', 'Better Homes and Gardens' and the stars from the INXS film were shot here for 'Who Magazine'. Guest AccessMy entire home is available for guest access. Interaction with GuestsAs I will be over seas interaction with guests will be limited to email or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN). My good friend Theresa who lives around the corner has agreed to be available to assist guests with any queries. The NeighborhoodRozelle is a very diverse and close knit community and has quite a reputation for being supportive of the arts. Boasting many artists' studios and galleries scattered both along Darling Street and in the many little back streets and lane ways it is not uncommon to see people spilling onto the streets during an opening. The local residents and shop owners are very friendly and are extremely proud of their 'Village' community and continue to cultivate that lovely atmosphere. One of the greatest weekend attractions is Rozelle Markets which is directly across the road. Drawing collectors and visitors from far and wide this is one of the last authentic second hand markets in Sydney. I have found many treasures over the years there. This market also specialises in quality second hand clothes, diverse food stalls and excellent live music, which can be listened to from my roof top deck. Just one last point, as there is so much more I could say about this unique area, My home is located directly above Victoire, the best French Patisserie in town...the croissants are to die for and if you introduce yourself to Miriam, the owner, as she parks her charming, vintage Citroen delivery van in the back lane, she is sure to offer you a treat. Coffee, Ungaro Raw is the organic cafe on the corner, their coffee is the best. For those who are more health concious 'About Life' is just a minute up Darling Street and is the best organic, vegan, gluten free alternative supermarket and cafe in all of Sydney. And finally, if you are looking for a good Yoga class, 'Egg of the Universe', 5 mins down the road hold casual classes daily. Getting AroundThe Rozelle/ Balmian peninsula location is ideal for getting around. It is only a 5 minute bus ride to the city, or you can either stroll or take the bus down the length of Darling street enjoying it's many cafe's, wine bars, boutiques and galleries to East Balmian where you can take the Ferry into Circular Quay. Other Things to NoteMy space would suit a more creative and adventurous couple, who don't mind feeding my cats (they are very independent, no litter they are well trained to go outside) Xena is a local identity, I recently had to remove my mobile number from her collar to avoid the numerous concerned calls as she can often be found loitering around the tables of the local bars and cafes. Luna on the other hand is more of a couch potato, as long as she is fed and no one sits on her chair she is happy, oh and she has a foot fetish ie: loves being tickled with feet.

The SpaceThis is a great house for anyone wanting a well-rounded taste of Sydney. We are tucked away on a beautiful and older peninsula part of Sydney but still remain close enough to be a quick 15min bus ride from the CBD. Standing at the end of the street you can see the harbour bridge (great for fireworks on NYE) however, Balmain is situated quite high and most streets offer a harbour view if you'd prefer something more 'full-frontal.' The house feels like a loving and cosy home. My partner is a chef and we both love our wine so there's plenty of kitchen equipment, cookbooks and even a wine fridge. The oven is electric and is less than a year old. We fully encourage long lunches outside in the garden with friends. There's 1 bedroom with a queen size bed and a large, long sofa should you need an extra person. Probably more suited for a couple. Despite not having air-con, the house remains very cool in summer. Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire house. We do ask that you remain respectful of noise as we have a good relationship with our neighbours. Interaction with GuestsWe won't be in the house during your stay. We may be here to drop off the keys, otherwise we'll leave them in a secret location/lock-box for you to easily access on arrival. We are more than happy to offer lots of information and advice about the house and local area. We'd like your stay to be as comfortable as possible. The NeighborhoodBalmain and Rozelle are known for their pedestrian cafe culture with great food, boutique shops and lots of traditional pubs. The markets every weekend create a great buzz in the neighbourhood. You'll find a fantastic array of second-hand goodies, live music and fresh food. We'll leave a booklet in the house offering recommendations of where to eat, drink, shop and any other bits of general info. Getting AroundThe public transport is very convenient: all buses from Victoria Street go straight into the CBD and buses from Darling Street go to The Rocks / Circular Quay. We will provide instructions for public transport for any guests who come to stay. Alternatively if you have a car, there's plenty of free parking in the street. Your car will also be very safe at night. Other Things to NoteIf you're travelling from the airport, the taxi fare could be around $60. If you need a cheaper route, grab a train to Town Hall and take any bus that goes along Victoria Road. Get out at Rozelle Junction. The walk is less than 10mins from the bus stop.
