This B&B is unique as it was built as a guesthouse for drovers and weary travelers in 1887. It was made famous in 1894 by a double murder and suicide, all for the love of a women! Guests say that a stay in this earth/cob building with it's wealth of history and open fires is an experience in itself. Come for peace and relaxation or build your own party. The house accommodates 10 persons in 2 doubles, a single, a twin and triple. Rooms are sold on an individual basis or for private use to groups. Guests share the 2 bathrooms. Bathrobes are provided.
Meals are served, with a supplementary cost, to guests in the historic guesthouse. Guests also have access to NZ's smallest pub.
Interaction with Guests
Guests in the guesthouse can expect a personal service. I also am a licensed tour driver with a 4WD vehicle so I am able to take guests for a supplementary charge on tours around the area.
The Nelson Lakes National Park is one of 3 National Parks in the Nelson/ Tasman region. We are an alpine region that is a fabulous destination for activities such as walking, hiking, fly fishing, bird watching, skiing in winter or to use as a base to discover wineries and the arts & crafts. The Nelson Lakes National Park is still an area of peace and quiet with a huge focus on flora and fauna
Guests coming to the area can reach the Nelson lakes National Park by car or shuttle from Nelson ( 1hr 15mins or from Blenheim (1hr 15mins), Westport ( 1.30hours). Private transfers booked thru TopHouse can also be arranged. Vehicles can be parked on the property. Cyclists also welcome.
Other Things to Note
We also have 4 self contained mountain view chalets that can accommodate 4 persons per chalet. Other rates apply. We have made the strategic decision not to offer WIFI access in the guesthouse, however there is mobile access on the property.
