Escape to this 1 bedroom "luxury" cabin with amazing marsh views! A perfect retreat for couples, artists, writers and nature lovers looking to get away, yet still have charming Beaufort 15 minutes away. Beaufort and St Helena are smaller and more relaxed than many of the coastal areas. The downtown area is charming and has the historic character of Charleston, without the crazy summer crowds. St. Helena has a different feel. It is more rural and less polished than resorts like Hilton Head. There are farm stands and seafood markets everywhere. There is a small central area with several cute shops and art galleries. There is a fort, tabby ruins and Penn Center, the first school for freed slaves nearby. You can ride horses from a nearby stable on trails and the beach or rent kayaks and navigate the tidal creeks. It feels worlds away yet, we are about 15 minutes from downtown. 10 minutes from grocery and drug stores. Smaller markets and restaurants are just down the road, very close by. The beach at Hunting Island is wonderful!!!! You drive through a maritime forest and there are no houses on the beach except for a few old cabins at one end. There is a lighthouse you can climb if you wish. It is 5 miles from the house and I provide a pass so that you can come and go as you please. This year it was voted the 7th best beach in the US on trip advisor and 5 of the ones ahead of it were in Hawaii! January, February and March are rented at a discount for our northern neighbors wishing to escape the harsh winters for a few months. Some pets allowed with pet fee depending on size and breed. Hunting Island State Park, with beautiful natural beaches, trails through the maritime forest and an iconic lighthouse - only 5 miles away! St Helena has many farm stands nearby and you will love buying your shrimp and seafood direct from the neighborhood dock. Penn Center, Chapel of Ease, Fort Freemont all near by.Great to paint or just visit! Fun local restaurants, including Gullah Grub and owner Bill Green, featured in many publications and tv shows. Historic Beaufort is a short drive away with many additional restaurants, shops and activities.

The historic BB Sam ruins and library are 2 blocks from the villa. The information below are the detailed instructions on how to access the many amenities on the gated island and at the waterfront villa. Interaction with GuestsThe welcome letter with how to access the many amenities on the island is located in the foyer at the villa and on this website. Email or text me for questions. The NeighborhoodPrivate, gated island with FULL amenities described below: Hunting Island Beach: Complementary pass for Hunting Island State Park is located in the binder in the front foyer. It is located 10 minutes away and has a beach for surfing, shelling and a light house with about 100 stairs to the top. Three surf boards, beach chairs, umbrella and coolers are in the utility room for your use. Kayaking: The Kayak is available at the property for your water enjoyment. The three person “sit on top” sea Kayak is located in the side yard of the villa. The three black seats are located in the trunk in the front foyer along with the 4 life preservers. The large kayak has wheels (located in the coat closet) for transporting it down the sidewalk to the dock one block away. Kayaking is best done at high tide or when the tide is “coming in”. Please refer to the tidal charts on the website: (URL HIDDEN) (Your location is Morgan River, Jenkins Creek, Polawana Island) then select the month and year then click on “get tides”. The water ranges between 2-10 feet. There is very little current, and even first time kayaker will enjoy themselves. Always boat with a life preserver and in pairs for safety. Bring your cell phone in a zip-lock bag. Return the kayak back to their original location after every use. The kayak cannot be left on the dock per Dataw’s covenants. Crabbing, fishing and shrimping: The dock is about 100 feet from the back of the villa down the side walk towards the club house. The “crab pot” is located outside next to the villa in the fenced area around the garbage cans. Place chicken necks in the small interior cage at the center of the crab pot. The crabs crawl in and can’t get out. Bring a big pot down to the dock and pour the crabs from the cage to the pot. Check the crab pot nightly for your dinner. Make sure to tie off the cage to the dock before tossing it into the water and throw it at least 6 feet away from the dock so it doesn’t get damaged when the dock comes down at low tide. Please return the crab pot to the shed at the side of the villa when finished. Fishing poles are in the laundry room. Biking: The three bicycles with helmets are in the small bike house located in the center of the Bluff Villas parking lot, next to the mail boxes and they are labelled “Temples 2013 Bluff Villa”. The code to open the bike room is 2468, and the middle key locks the bike room. There is a bicycle pump located in the trunk in the foyer if the tires need inflating. There are many leisure trails for biking, walking and jogging anytime. The Golf Course Trails can be used during non-golfing hours, before 7:30 am and after 6:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday. Golfing trails can be used for biking all day on Monday when both courses are closed for maintenance. Pets: Pets are permitted with prior written approval of the owner. Pets must be on their leashes. Pet owners are responsible for the immediate removal of their pet’s excrements (There is a poop scooper next to the water hose in the back yard and plastic bags under the sink). Property owners and their guests are subject to fines and penalties for violations of this rule. Please wash off pets feet if dirty and have them lay on a protective blanket if they are accustomed to laying on beds or couches. Wireless Internet: The wireless internet name is “crabshack” and the password is “(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)”. Dataw Island has its own web page at (URL HIDDEN) for additional information on daily activities. Grills: The propane grill is located in the laundry room next to the washer. There is also a charcoal grill on the back deck. Please use both grills on the cement patio not on the wooden deck to avoid fires. Fill the gas grill with water to the “fill line”. Please clean them after use and replace in the laundry room. Charcoal and propane are not provided. Please bring your own charcoal and propane (small green propane containers). Golfing reservations: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) If you are interested in one or two rounds of golf on our island membership during your stay, I can arrange it by notifying the club 2 days in advance. The greens fees are listed in the orientation folder and run around $120 for 18 holes which includes a golf cart. A “Full Golf Membership” can be purchased for a month by contacting the club house. Tennis & Croquet: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)nis reservations are made online. LINK: (URL HIDDEN) Click on “sign in” in the upper right hand corner, the User ID is d0049 and the password is “tennis” (all lower case - no quotes). Click on the grid and sign up for a time to play tennis. Community Fitness Center: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)gn in at the front desk at the community center at the fitness center as “Temples”. The indoor pool and exercise facility are complementary. Daily and monthly aerobics and zumba classes are available for guests who would like to participate for a small fee. Fees for other services offered by the Community Center (i.e. massages) are scheduled and paid for through the Community Center staff. Club reservations: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) The Dataw Island Club House is located one block away and offers superb fine dining Wednesday through Sunday (a collar shirt and jacket are required). If you are interested in a “quick meal”, the Pub has wonderful food with seating inside or outside overlooking the golf course and water. The sandwich shop (next to the outdoor pool) is two blocks away from the villa. Use a credit card for meals. Cash is not accepted. Marina: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) Daily or weekly dock rentals are available. A screened in pavilion with picnic tables and a children’s playground are located at the marina. The pavilion may be reserved for private use by contacting the Catering Director at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Phone access: The land phone can be used for local calls only and emergency 911 purposes. Cell phone coverage is very good even on the water. Dataw Island information: Channel “7” on the TV is dedicated to providing island information. Garbage Pickup: Garbage pickup is Monday and Thursday. Place the clean plastic liner in the garbage cans so the sanitation service will know the cans need to be emptied. The lids of the garbage cans need to be secure otherwise the raccoons will pull the garbage out of the cans. One garbage can has a twist top and one has handles that flip up to secure the lid. Getting AroundThere is ample parking at the villa and ONLY two steps up to the main floor and deck. Park your boat to the marina and stay on the island. Other Things to NoteAccess to the home is provided one week before your scheduled arrival. The keys are in a lock box on the front porch and a gate pass will be called in your last name to the security gate for the dates reserved.
