The SpaceWe are located in the delightful and highly amenable South Delhi colony of Hauz Khas, offering some of the most peaceful, green and quiet surroundings that one can find in the city of Delhi.
The colony itself is a secure gated one, with security personnel posted at every point of entry round the clock.
Our B-n-B is an imposing stand-alone house having three large, well-appointed double rooms for the guests, each with its own attached bathroom which is equipped with all modern fittings and pressurized hot and cold water.
Guests can choose from a room with a king-size double bed or from others with separate single beds, depending on the guests’ preferences. There is ample space in every room for a roll-in bed or mattress to accommodate an extra guest, if necessary, at a nominal additional charge.
Every room is comfortably air-conditioned during the summer months and adequately heated when it gets quite cold during the Delhi winter.
Also provided in each room is a television set, a beverage refrigerator and a digital safe where the guests can securely keep their precious belongings. Guest AccessSince we are located on a large property, we have huge open spaces in front as well as at the rear of the building which have been converted into lush green gardens. The guests are welcome to enjoy these green spaces. Those inclined to smoke, can freely do so here -- without, of course, littering the area.
The large Lobby, the front and rear Gardens, the front Verandah, these are all available for our guests to use for holding meetings, reading books or, simply for relaxation.
We have a well equipped Kitchen, with piped gas, both a microwave oven as well as an electric oven, a mixer/blender, a toaster and all necessary crockery and cutlery items. Guests are most welcome to use these facilities to make special dishes of their choice -- or even learn Indian cooking from our Kalpana who “mans” the Kitchen and is quite an accomplished cook herself.
The breakfast is normally Continental/American including seasonal fruits, eggs, toast with butter and jam and tea/coffee. To bring in variety, both North as well as South Indian items are served on occasion.
A modern, highly effective Water Purifier is installed in the Kitchen. Only water duly purified through this equipment is used both for cooking as well as by the guests. As a rule, a bottle of mineral water is always served on a complimentary basis to every guest on arrival.
Also available to the guests is our heavy duty Washing Machine. Guests can avail of this facility at a very nominal cost.
High speed Wi-Fi is freely available throughout the premises.
A compact, well equipped Office space is maintained by the Host. Guests are free to use the computer, the printer and the scanner to download and print air and railway tickets as also for online checking-in.
A First-Aid box is available for minor emergencies, complete with common over-the-counter medications, dettol, ointment for superficial burns, band-aid, bandages, etc. A highly qualified doctor is available on-call for more serious cases. All expenses, on actuals, would need to be paid by the guest.
It is essential, however, that every guest has adequate medical insurance cover for the duration of his/her stay. The Host accepts no liability whatsoever in this regard where the guest may have to be hospitalized or may suffer from a serious ailment/injury during his/her stay. Interaction with GuestsThe Host takes great pride in being always accessible and available to the guests for any kind of help or advice the guest may need. Besides (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps which can be consulted on the PC or phone, an Eicher Map has proved to be very popular. Railway Timetables are also available.
The breakfast table is where all important interactions between the guests and the Host take place every morning and the day is planned. However, the conversation is not limited to sightseeing trips and transport logistics. The Host has a great variety of interests – from Science & Technology to Astrology (of which he is a practitioner) and contemporary Religion and Spiritualism. Many engrossing and indeed, highly spirited discussions and arguments have taken place at the breakfast table. There is total freedom of thought and all are encouraged to freely express their ideas, however varied and individually differing they may be. The NeighborhoodThough officially called a South Delhi locality, Hauz Khas is now effectively “the centre of the City”, at least as far as the visitor or tourist is concerned. This is because all the sites worth visiting are almost equidistant from where we are.
Thus, the international airport at 16 km is about as far to the South of us as the New Delhi railway station, at 14 km, is to the North. Plumb next to the railway station is Connaught Place, an iconic shopping centre of Delhi. The famous Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk are all clustered together around New Delhi station.
To the South of us, just 3 km away, is the famous Qutub Minar which, at 72.5 metres, is the tallest brick minaret in the world and a must-see monument for any visitor to Delhi.
Closer home, in fact, just a ten minute walk away, is the now famous Hauz Khas Village, perhaps the nattiest place to hangout in in all of Delhi. It not only attracts hordes of tourists and sightseers, it boasts also of some of the most fashionable Boutiques in town as well as a wide variety of Eateries, both high-end and for those on a budget.
For the “fitness freaks”, there are a number of well equipped gyms within walking distance which are quite reasonable too. And just across a colony road is a well maintained park having a paved walking/running track where people can be found exercising almost any time of the day. Yoga classes are also regularly held here.
Other spots frequently visited are:
Dilli Haat, 3 k.m., well known for buying of handicraft items;
Sarojini Nagar Market, 3 k.m., for the price-conscious;
Lotus Temple, 3 k.m., a unique structure built as a flower, is the Baha’I house of worship
Lodhi Gardens, 4 k.m., for long walks among historical monuments set in a lush green forest;
Humayun Tomb, 5 k.m., considered to be the prototype based on which the Taj Mahal was built in Agra;
Akshardham Temple, 6 k.m., a beautiful modern temple, breathtaking in its grandeur, epitomizes 10,000 years of Hindu culture;
AIIMS and Safdarjang, the biggest hospital complex in the country, are situated just 3 km away. Max Hospital, too, is about the same distance but in the opposite direction. And next to Max, is the Select City Walk Mall with any number of high-end shops and Food Courts and Cinemas.
The Hauz Khas Police Station is hardly 500 metres away and so is the main Post Office.
