The SpaceThis home is modern, energy efficient, and designed and decorated by an artist. It's full of distinctive details, whimsy, and color. The house is designed for comfortable living, entertaining, and easy access to the remarkable setting. A cook's kitchen features an induction stovetop, large, farmhouse sink and soapstone countertops. There is a gas fireplace and a large TV with Roku box in the upstairs living room. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs, one with a queen and the other with 2 bunks. There is a deep soaking bathtub with shower in one bath, and a large tiled walk-in shower in the other. Outside, beyond the large lawn, picnic tables and hammock, is Lake Dunmore. At the shore are the boats: a metal rowboat, a blue canoe, an Adirondack guideboat, and a blue kayak. There is a 30' dock and anchored swimming raft. The lake is full of fish, loons and other water birds. Walk to numerous hiking trails in the Green Mountains behind the house. Guest AccessThe house is divided between a front home and a back artist's studio/apt. I live in the apartment when the home is rented. There is a lockbox with a house key near the front door. Interaction with GuestsI may or may not be there while you are visiting. If I'm at home, I'll try to greet you, if I'm not at home, there will always be a local contact for emergencies. The NeighborhoodThis home is on a peaceful, sheltered cove on Lake Dunmore in the Champlain Valley of Vermont. The Green Mountain National Forest is the backyard, full of hiking trails and fly fishing. Fishing for Bass, and Lake Trout is good on Lake Dunmore, but a VT license is needed. The nearby town of Middlebury was just voted 11th best place to live in the entire US by Outside Magazine. Middlebury College is 12 miles away, and this makes a perfect home base for college related visits. The summer Camps Songadeewin and Keewaydin are minutes from here. All kinds of boats are welcome, and power boats of all kinds are for rent at Waterhouses Marina, but 5 miles an hour in the cove is the rule. The neighbors are nearby and greatly appreciate polite lake behavior. The autumn colors are spectacular in this hardwood forest. Leaf peeping is excellent, in season. In winter the lake freezes and ice fishing shanties dot the expanse. X-Country skiing and snowshoeing on the lake are fantastic, and several world class, downhill ski areas are within an hour's drive. Both nearby towns of Brandon and Middlebury have several excellent restaurants and bars. Middlebury has a movie theater and the Middlebury Town Hall Theater. If you fly in Burlington Airport is about 60 minutes away and Albany, NY is about 1.75 hours. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation nearby. A car is a must. Other Things to NoteParking is sensitive and 2 cars, maximum, are allowed. Parking for temporary guests is in the wooded lot above the driveway. Please plan ahead and minimize car build up.
