The couch in the living room makes into a bed. For more than two guests there is a charge of $10 per guest per night. Please note there is no door on the bedroom so you may not get the privacy you are used to if the hide a bed is used. We do not charge for children but please let us known if they are coming and we will put toys out. The bathroom has a shower and is stocked with shampoo, soap, toothbrush and paste, combs, and other toiletries. The front porch is your space as we enter another way. We are happy to give guests a tour of the rest of the house. No smokers or pets please. Our two little daschunds never go downstairs. The two door closet in the bedroom is off limits (full of stuff our adult children left; go ahead and look if you want to see your future). Interaction with GuestsWe try and greet you on arrival but the suite is private so you will not see us. If we are not going to be home or you are arriving late we let you know of the hidden key. The front porch is yours to hang out on. We use a different entrance when we have quests. We are happy to answer questions about the area and give a tour of the rest of the house (give us a little notice so we can tidy up). How much you interact with us is up to you. Some guests we never even meet! It's your call. If there is no one checking in the day after you leave or checking out the day you arrive we are flexible on times for arriving and leaving. The NeighborhoodQuiet neighbourhood. House is on a deadend street in a residential area up hill from the downtown. Getting AroundTwo minutes to downtown by car. There is a bus stop close by and you can walk downtown via a trails and sidewalks. It is a twenty minute walk downhill to the downtown and a thirty minute walk uphill! Other Things to NoteThere is a large selection of movies on DVD and cable TV. Hair dryer and iron in the closet. Extra toothbrush and paste if you forgot yours. There are two fluffy bathrobes for your use. We do not charge for children. We make a point of being quiet from nine pm to nine am so if you sleep in later than that let us know. We can't hear you but the wooden floor above the bedroom does transmit our footsteps so we avoid that area for those hours. Some guests have asked if they can take the glass milk bottles. Be my guest if you would like to take one. You may take the homemade jam and jar as well.

The SpaceWelcome to one of Salmon Arm's few remaining original homes, built in 1908: a “four-square bungalow, British India Colonial style with a breezeway (wrap around verandah)". Breakfast consists of a hot entree of your choice, with fresh fruit platter (in season), yogurt and Grandma's homemade granola: all fresh the morning of your stay and made from scratch in Hearts Haven's kitchen from locally sourced ingredients, as much as possible. The front verandah is the perfect place for summer storm watching or savoring a leisurely cup of coffee! Every nook of Hearts Haven is furnished with antiques, with a keen awareness of the timeless beauty of pieces from bygone eras and the comfort a cozy corner can offer to curl up with a good read or simply relax and rejuvenate after a day of travel, sight-seeing or playing hard. Situated on ½ acre atop a hill overlooking Shuswap Lake, 5 minute's drive from the center of town or a 15 minute walk along a lovely path through the forest, Hearts Haven's back yard interfaces with forest: home to deer, pheasants, birds, a hawk, and other creatures, all who find their way into our yard. Heritage trees create a shady sanctuary, with lots of sun on the back deck if that is your preference. The privacy of the yard lends itself very well to a meditation retreat environment. The house is a 10-minute drive from Canoe Beach, good for swimming and with a children's playground. Guest AccessTwo bedrooms: the Princess Room and the Victorian Room, each with a queen-size 'feather bed' so you can drift away into dream-time on clouds of down. Have your morning coffee in your room if you wish, or take it out to one of the many nooks on the verandah, or relax in the dining room. Our beautiful antique upright piano awaits piano enthusiasts. All of the rooms are filled with period antiques, many original to Hearts Haven. All of the mainfloor rooms are available for your use: the dining room, parlor, library (TV room), bedroom(s), and marble bathroom. Interaction with GuestsCome and stay a while – long or short – you will be glad you did. You can have as much privacy and seclusion as you wish. I will welcome you on arrival and serve you breakfast in the breakfast room or on the porch. The rest of your stay, your time and space are your own. The breakfast menu varies and everything is homemade 'from scratch': and you may choose fresh croissants with all the trimmings one morning, crisp and fluffy Coconut Belgian waffles or pancakes, or a ‘western breakfast' with eggs, hash browns and toast, or an omelette? Vegan and gluten-free options available (please request when booking). My home is your home. You will feel like you are visiting your favorite aunt, or Grandma! The NeighborhoodQuiet neighborhood, originally called 'Uplands Estates'. Pleasant neighbors: some growing families and many long-time residents. Enjoy a stroll exploring the quiet streets or access the trails leading downtown, shops are a 10-15 minute walk from the house, or take the Rotary Trail, a lovely well-groomed trail to downtown or 'Uptown' to shopping and restaurants. Getting AroundHearts Haven is a few houses away from the bus route, with buses every hour to and from downtown. Park in front of the house or on the shady driveway beneath heritage trees. Salmon Arm taxi service available in town and surrounding area. Greyhound bus station downtown; the nearest airports are Kelowna and Kamloops, an hour or so away by car. Greyhound bus drops passengers at Kelowna airport on request. Other Things to NoteChildren are welcome. The guest rate is the same, for both children and adults. Please always tend to your child. Children must always be accompanied by an adult (fellow guest) when visiting Hearts Haven. LOST & FOUND We prefer that you don't leave items behind, but know from our own traveling that it does happen. If you have lost something somewhere along your trip, give us a call and if it is in our lost and found box, we will gladly ship it back to you for the cost of shipping and a $20 handling fee.
