Colorful markets, delicious food, archeological areas, Colonial buildings, beautiful handcrafts, a lively cultural and art life. Interaction with GuestsWe have been very lucky since most of our guests have become good lasting friends. The NeighborhoodSan Felipe del Agua is a cute typical Mexican pueblito only 15 minutes bus drive from Oaxaca City. The SpaceI decided to turn my parent's dream home into a Bed and Breakfast. The stay at the house would be ideal for travelers looking to spend a weekend or more in a relaxing area full of tourists attractions but it's also an ideal location for those seeking an alternative immersion experience. Oaxaca offers various attractions year-round so you are welcome to come anytime. Las Azucenas B&B is a spanish hacienda style home decorated with local art and bright colors. We have a total of 3 bedrooms with 2 full size beds and one single bed. We can accommodate private rooms or shared rooms depending on the number of people that are staying during your visit. We have one spacious bathroom with running water (hot & cold), a nice shower/bathtub, washer and dryer, fans, and closet space. This is a wonderful and diverse place which I call home and I would like to share it with the world. I studied abroad all over the world and backpacked while in college using AIRBNB so I know what travelers seek. This location is the best of both worlds: the small town immersion experience and the vibrant City of Oaxaca a short distance away. I have spent all my summers here in Tlacolula since I was a kid so I guarantee you will love your time and experiences here! Guest AccessAt Casa Las Azucenas we offer the comfort of your own home. As our guest you will have access to the entire house: kitchen, dinning room, living room, and patio area. You are free to cook and use the kitchenware. We also have bikes if you're interested in borrowing them. Interaction with GuestsI am easily available or the house manager to greet guests and to make sure guests are comfortable. The NeighborhoodThe B&B is nestled in the town Tlacolula de Matamoros, Oaxaca, a 25 minute drive from the City of Oaxaca. We have the MITLA and YAGUL archeological sites 10 minutes away. Hierve el Agua, mineral infused springs an hour away. Ecotourism (bike riding, zip-lining, horseback riding) 40 min away. We are known for our vibrant Sunday outdoor market where local indigenous communities come together to sell their products; it's a sight you cannot miss! You can also explore our church built in 1560, try our famous sorbets, eat at local restaurants and taco stands, and taste the world famous Mezcal. The Patron Saint town celebrations take place in October and then comes the Day of the Dead festivities in November which you are more than welcome to join in. Getting AroundGetting around is quite easy in Tlaocolula. I live 10 min away (walking )from the center of town or you can take a "moto-taxi" and get to the center of town in 5 min. If you want to visit any of the tourist attractions you can get a private or shared taxi at any time around (15 pesos per person). There is public transportation from the Oaxaca City to Tlacolula via bus or taxi every 10 min. You can also take the bus or taxi from the B&B to any of the sites listed above. I also have a van, and for an extra charge, I would be more than glad to pick you up from the airport/city. Other Things to NoteI have started an unofficial local tours that may be of interest. It focuses more on rural attractions while taking a cultural anthropology approach. My cousin and I can take you to different attractions as many or as little as you may like. I have done a lot of research on my ancestors history and my cousin offers a perspective of a native zapotec from the valley region. We give a portion of the cost to everyone we visit, we try to help our community in anyway possible. Inbox me if you're interested!

There is also "Amigos del Sol", a great Spanish school within walking distance from the house where many guests have learnt Spanish with Rogelio and have loved his classes without fail. The summer offers a variety of camps and great, creative courses (some with Spanish teaching) for kids. The house is surprisingly close to the historic centre (15- 20 minute bus ride), so you will have the best of all worlds! Wake up with a glorious view to the mountains from your bedroom window,, exotic birds in your lush garden and the smell of tortillas, handmade in the ancient way, by a neighboring family, just minutes from your door. Drive two blocks down and that's my house on the second corner, a big cream gate with bars--just before the bridge. Bienvenidos a casa :-) PUBLIC TRANSPORT There are buses and shared taxis (all carmine red and a white stripe) to Teotitlan, but they are a bit unreliable. Here is some guidance: Buses ($10 pesos) and Shared Taxis ($16 pesos) to Teotitlan del Valle leave on the hour (7am to 8pm) from the 2nd class bus station/taxi base (near Central de Abastos) and do stop all along Periférico ringway. Pro-tip: if you are near the ADO, I recommend going to the bus stop behind the baseball stadium; in this way, you avoid all the traffic in the city!. Buses to Teotitlan del Valle stop around the 20-30 minutes of every hour on this stop. A faster way is to take a shared taxi towards Tlacolula ($20 pesos) and get off at the village cross roads (in front of a few Mezcal palenques). Cross the bridge and take another shared taxi to the village ($5 pesos). We are marked as dixza rugs on the map. Other Things to NoteJust bear in mind that this is an active farm, there are animals and a tractor. Farm animals do make some impatient noise when we are feeding them or just as part of their normal behaviour. Our tractor will only be a bit of a noise disturbance when we are maintaining it, but generally it just goes in and out to the fields when there is farmwork. Our farm is not the tidiest of places but we make sure that all guest areas are clean and organised. Traditional Zapotec architecture builds rooms surrounding the patio; each room is an individual building next to each other, whilst this gives plenty of open space and privacy, it also means that the toilet and shower room are at the extreme end of the house.

The SpaceYou'll be staying in the biggest room of the house, it has large windows and a nice hammock. We have a big house with a large patio where we keep some livestock (sheep, horses and bulls) you are welcome to help feeding them ;-) we are just happy to share our culture and meet people from all over the world, you'll get a chance to live the Zapotec culture, enjoy listening to our native language, going shopping to the local market and joining many of the village festivals and traditions. As part of your stay we will show you how we make our rugs; we grind some cochineal to show you how we get different colours from the bugs, my mom is very good at spinning wool and very patient if you would like to try it, we even teach you the very basics of weaving on the looms if you are up for it. You are welcome to join us at parties or festivals in the village if there are any during your stay. My aunts run a shop in front of the local market and every morning ladies meet for shots of Mezcal and other spirits before going to the market for grocery shopping, we'll introduce you to them and show you the many varieties of Mezcal and the way in which it can be drank for fun, healing or spiritual purposes. My brother Celestino could arrange horse riding sessions for one or more people. We can also arrange the traditional Temazcal (steam bath with medicinal herbs) with a local healer.
