The SpaceOur apartment is intimately situated at the base of an ancient mother redwood tree (the mother tree is long gone, but many of the sucker sprouts are over 3' in diameter). We can only guess the age of the mother tree -- thousands of years, at least. There are over 100 redwood trees on our property.
This cozy yet spacious detached all-new apartment sleeps up to three (one queen bed/one daybed). Beautiful kitchen with granite counters, a gas range/oven, microwave (no dishwasher), sky-lit bathroom (shower only), combined living/dining room, two bedrooms (one large/one child-size), separate laundry room, and private deck. Very comfortably furnished, with many special touches. All windows have Venetian blinds for nighttime privacy.
The kitchen is fully equipped for your cooking/dining needs, including toaster and coffee maker with coffee/tea provided. The master bedroom has a soapstone propane stove which heats the entire apartment. The bedroom has a clock/radio/CD player; the living room has a TV/DVD player -- enjoy a movie from our collection, or rent one from Video West Rentals in nearby Forest Knolls; internet and cable TV provided. Enjoy our quiet, clean, easily-accessed getaway in the redwoods! Guest AccessPrivate entrance with off-street parking. Slightly sloping driveway, with five steps up to deck private deck. Interaction with GuestsHosts in nearby main house will welcome you and be available to assist your needs during your stay. Two of our friendly cats roam yard freely, and will probably stop by to say hello. The NeighborhoodA quiet residential neighborhood in the heart of beautiful San Geronimo Valley; easy to find and access, with plenty of off street parking. Head west to Samuel P. Taylor State Park, or beyond to fabulous Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which encompasses most of our Marin coastline, featuring cute coastal towns and too many beaches to list. A good place to start is GGNRA's Bear Valley Visitor Center in Olema, where you can learn about local history, visit a traditional Miwok Village, or ride your bicycle for miles on a wonderful, vehicle free, rolling dirt road through pasture and glen that takes you right to the ocean.
Try a cheese tasting tour of West Marin's many unique cheese factories, one of which is Nicasio Valley Cheese Co. in nearby bucolic Nicasio, a small town square set back in time; this town also features locally famous Rancho Nicasio, a restaurant/bar with live music on weekends. Drive 10 minutes beyond Nicasio to Marin French Cheese Factory on Pt. Reyes-Petaluma Road, a popular picnic destination and Marin's largest cheese factory, surrounded by rolling green lawns with picnic tables, and a pretty pond complete with ducks and geese. Organic vegetable farms and dairy farms dot this lovely rural road.
Fairfax is our closest town heading east (five miles), where you'll find markets, gift shops, restaurants and small nightclubs (Fairfax is a small town known for its nightly live music). The Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco are only 30 minutes away -- the last exit before the Bridge leads you to Marin Headlands, part of our Golden Gate Nat'l Recreation Area, which has spectacular views and photo opportunities looking toward this iconic structure. Continue on this road to Pt. Bonita Lighthouse, Rodeo Beach, or to visit our wonderful Marine Mammal Center, which saves hundreds of injured sea lions and other lost seals and abandoned pups every year. Getting AroundDrive, walk, ride your bike, ride your horse, or use the West Marin Stage, which runs daily with multiple stops from Inverness to Central San Rafael. The Marin Airporter, a constant shuttle service to S.F. Int'l Airport (leaving every 1/2 hour) is twenty minutes away in San Rafael.
