The SpaceSueños Dulces is an incredibly special place where the miraculous happens every day! Whether it's a visit by the different species of toucans and hummingbirds, a local armadillo, or the famed Blue Morpho butterfly, all one needs to do is stop and take a break from the stress of our busy lives back home to experience the magic, peacefulness and shift of perspective this bursting-with-life environment provides. Guest AccessAdventure center 1 mile up the road with rafting, canyoning and zipline, horseback riding, night hikes and orchid tours. Arenal Volcano is just one hour to the north. Several excellent, inexpensive local restaurants within 5-8 minutes as well as Israeli cafe and restaurant which serves amazing vegetarian fare. Groceries are 10 minutes away or one can stock up on the way to Sueños Dulces in the city of San Ramon. Bus service at the top of the hill (.9 km) from the property. Interaction with GuestsI am generally not there except for a few weeks per year but my caretaker, Jorge, is very helpful in helping with orientation even if one doesn't speak Spanish. He is very easy to understand through gestures and body language. If I am there, I would be delighted to interact as much (or as little) as my guests desire. The NeighborhoodBeautiful walks down to the river, a refreshing and private swimming hole, walking distance to the bus, ability to organize adventures nearby yet having a beautiful, peaceful environment to come back to. Getting AroundThere is a bus that runs north to La Fortuna and Volcano Arenal or south to the city of San Ramon, where one can transfer and get to the airport or the capital of San Jose. Other Things to NoteThe kitchen is well equipped with a propane gas stove/oven and anything one might need for cooking. Fresh eggs are always available as there are chickens on the property. There is a comfortable, queen-size mattress and foldout couch (full-size) which works for a child or even two small children. Towels and linens are provided. Washer/dryer. Although my property is well-maintained, solid, closed-toe footwear is really essential and one should not walk in any nearby un-maintained areas. The road going .9 kilometer down to this property from the highway is gravel, and although one can do it slowly and carefully in a passenger car, four-wheel drive, higher clearance vehicles certainly make it easier.

For those who prefer to stay closer to home, there is an adventure center just one kilometer from the Hummingbird Cabin where one may book various outings such as horseback riding, canyoning and river rafting. There is a well-maintained path that leads down to the beautiful, peaceful San Lorenzo River and a refreshing swimming hole. The Hummingbird Cabin is a simple studio which consists of a large living/sleeping area and a separate kitchen and bathroom. This cozy cabin sleeps 2 people and there is a queen/double bed. The cabin has a hot water shower, propane gas stove, refrigerator, coffee maker and toaster. The deck looks out into the forest and several types of hummingbirds and woodpeckers, the beautiful mot-mot bird and the chachalaca (looks like a small, flying turkey!) are frequent visitors. The living/sleeping area looks out onto tropical gardens, coffee and fruit trees. There are 2 slideshows on Dropbox which give the visitor a sense of size and layout of the property and surrounding areas. Please email me for the information on how to see them. The Hummingbird cabin at Sue単os Dulces is in Alajuela Province, halfway between the cities of San Ramon and La Fortuna. The cabin is located in the tiny Costa Rican village of Bajo Cordoba, but there are services such as restaurants and groceries nearby. The last kilometer of the trip to the farm is on a gravel road, so 4-wheel drive is recommended although it is possible to do it in a passenger car with slow speed and care. The nearest neighbors are about 200 meters up the hill so the property is very private and quiet. There is a full-time caretaker who lives on the property and speaks Spanish with a few words of English. However, even if one doesn't speak Spanish, communication with him is pretty easy as he speaks slowly and finds ways to explain things with body language.

Villa Hada Escondida is a beautiful private and secluded home decorated with Costa Rican hardwoods, ceramic tile, original native artworks and luxurious amenities throughout. Surrounded by 180 degree pastoral mountain views of the stunning Central Valley and adjacent canyon, Villa Hada sits on a quiet country lane in the lush Los Angeles Cloud Forest. Our guests love when the morning clouds briefly enshroud the house in mist in this unique ecosystem. We enjoy an average daily high of 82F (28C) and a low of 64F (16.5C). The villa is situated on a hilltop facing east/west so you can watch the sunrise from the kitchen table and relax over a sunset that's perfectly framed by the balcony's teak timber posts. Villa Hada is elegantly decorated with Pottery Barn window treatments including a romantic wall of sheer ivory curtains in the master bedroom. Our guests will love the two huge showers overlooking the canyon complete with Moen rain shower heads and plush white cotton towels after a long day of exploring. The master and guest beds are made with Pottery Barn and Laura Ashley high thread count sheets, down pillows and duvets, and decorative cushions and plush throws for comfort. Our upstairs sitting room is beautifully furnished with comfortable cushions in the rattan seating area. Our colourful cotton hammocks, rocking chairs, and eucalyptus wood table and chairs are perfect for birdwatching over the canyon from either the ceramic tiled terrazza or the mahogany-floored balcony. And art enthusiasts will love Villa Hada's collection of original artwork and paintings by the German-born La Fortuna Coco Loco Gallery owner and artist Ruth Deiseroth-Kweton and the artisan statuary by Guanacaste's indigenous Chortega indians throughout the garden. Why Choose Villa Hada Escondida? Villa Hada Escondida is a unique single family home located on nearly two acres of lush rain forest and is surrounded by guava and ratoncillo trees covered in epiphytes and bromeliads. Because of the humid cloud forest climate, our hibiscus hedge-enclosed garden has beautiful hydrangea and rose bushes in addition to the tropical plants you'd expect to see in Costa Rica. Our private nature trail leads past golden bamboo to a creek and waterfall where you'll see hummingbirds, blue morpho butterflies, tree ferns and birds of paradise. Our home is just 15 minutes from the center of San Ramon, two minutes from the road to La Fortuna/Arenal, two hours from Arenal, and about one hour and 10 minutes northwest of San Jose Airport. Villa Hada is a non-smoking home. Our home is located in a guarded and gated community of European and North American expatriates. Many of our guests choose Villa Hada as place to research the San Ramon area for its affordable real estate. Villa Hada's ceramic-tiled first floor features a gourmet kitchen with a stainless steel refrigerator and gas stove, a wooden trestle table with bench seating, a sitting room area with a convertible futon, and a full-service laundry room. The downstairs bedroom has two beautiful hardwood twin beds with high thread count sheets, and hardwood nightstands and an armoire. Enjoy views of the hibiscus-hedge enclosed back garden and ridge line road to La Fortuna right from the tiled bathroom shower in the downstairs bathroom. A separate sink area has an elegant glass bowl basin for washing up. Upstairs you'll find an open-beamed ceiling great room with the master bedroom's dramatic wall of ivory cotton voile curtains behind the hardwood-topped hand wrought iron railing on one side and a sitting area on the other. The sheer drapes filter the light and add privacy without blocking the gorgeous views of rolling hills through the balcony's wall of windows. The entire upstairs has beautifully polished hardwood floors, including the outside balcony. The upstairs full bath has a huge shower with a rain shower head, and long wall of windows and a glass bowl sink. What to do at Villa Hada Escondida: Plan the next day's adventures or enjoy the view through the balcony windows from the upstairs sitting room's wicker settee and chairs. Villa Hada's guest library on the rattan etagere in the balcony hallway offers a collection of Costa Rican guide books, brochures, maps, and wildlife identification books including a log of the 45 species of birds that have been seen in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest. Yoga enthusiasts will be in heaven practicing yoga on our balcony. Only minutes away you can take a guided day or night tour through the 6.75 miles of trails in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest, try zip lining through the canopy or go horse back riding past working dairy farms. Wondering what the house's name means? Villa Hada Escondida means Country House of the Hidden Faerie. Our two small children love faeries and all things magical and truly believe that faeries exist, especially in their house in Costa Rica. Regrettably, Villa Hada is not available for last minute booking. We require seven days' notice for all reservations to ensure the house and grounds are ready for our guests' occupancy. The house is available for rent for periods of up to thirty (30) days and is not available for long term bookings.
