The Spaceyou are in the heart of the Tasman Peninsula where the rural landscape meets the wilderness of the Tasman National Park. Nubeena with most amenities is the closest town only 10 minutes drive away. Port Arthur is 20 minutes drive away. Guest AccessGuests have access to a full Kitchen and Laundry. Guests may also use the nearby Authentic Sauna that is right next to the walking track start/finish. Interaction with GuestsGuests accommodation is almost 1km away from my house which can be seen. Its up to the guest how much they interact with me. I will always give guests their space but usually come check that all is good. The NeighborhoodThe thing I like about my neighborhood is that at times you can feel like its at the end of the world, while at the same time you have easy access to the modern world. I also like the wild and remote feeling of Stormlea. Sometimes the weather can really put on a show. The closest neighbor direct to the south are actually somewhere to the north (I think in Russia) as you go underneath Antarctica then head north to find a neighbor. Getting AroundThe nearest public transport goes to Nubeena. A car is almost a must but a bicycle is a bonus for those fit enough to tackle the hills. Other Things to Note(URL HIDDEN)DIRECTIONS Finding this place is usually straight forward. The most simple way is to follow a map and also arrive at a sensible time like daylight. Along with the scenery to see you also make life easier for the wildlife who suffer nightly from motorists. In the past some people have left it late driving around lost in the dark looking for us and following a dashboard navigator that gets them even more lost. We even had a carload of people booked in who could not find us at all and ended up sleeping in their car. So its important to start your quality time away with a good introduction and that will definitely start with a relaxed, scenic daytime drive to get here. From Hobart allow at least 2 hours drive. This allows time for a good break. allow more if you want to check other things on the way. From Hobart drive towards Sorrell. This is the last major town with big shops. Then on to Port Aurthur. From there head towards Nubeena. 2km before Nubeena on your left at a pear orchard you will find Stormlea rd. Its marked Stormlea 9, Highcroft 3. The walking tracks are also marked here!!! Now drive all the way to the end of Stormlea Rd. Its 9km long. At any major turn off there are walking track signs to follow. Drive past the walking track car park and here you will find some wooden gates and my driveway #925, Happy Navigating!!

The Wine and Oyster Bar at Bangor, Dunalley is also renowned for very good food. Nearer Port Arthur, there is the Lavender Farm with good food and coffee.

The NeighborhoodWe are located in natural bush area which is suited to guests that love nature and are looking for a beautiful setting in a peaceful area. The Forestier and Tasman Peninsulas are for people who want a quieter stay away from shops, cinemas and bright lights. We love our friendly and convenient neighbourhood which mixes a semi-rural setting together with convenient access to facilities. We are less than 5 minutes from Sommers Bay Beach and 10 minutes from a hotel in Dunally which serves delicious meals. Our property is situated 1 hour by car from Hobart and 45 minutes from the airport. The closest shopping centre is situated in Sorell which is a 35 minute drive from our house while the nearest fuel and small general supply / take-away store is less than 5 minutes from our house and is open daily during the day. From our property guests have convenient access to the beauty of the Tasman and Forestier Peninsulas. The Three Capes walk, (Cape Hauy, Cape Rauol and Cape Pillar) which is being touted as the best short walk in the world by some of the international travel books is easily accessed from here. If we are able to arrange convenient drop-off / pick-up points we would be willing to help with guests staying staying for more than one day and wishing to do longer walks. We are within convenient reach of Port Arthur with its historical and ghost hunting facilities (30 minutes drive). The Coal Mines are also of historical and birding interest and Lime Bay is another birding and walking area worth visiting. All of these and many other places are a must to see - Devils Kitchen, Tasman Blowhole, Tasman Arch, Waterfall Bay and fairy penguins to mention just a few to wet your appetite - all just a 10 or 15 minute drive away. I have visited and walked around many of these areas and can give more information to guests if they require it. Getting AroundThere is a once-a-day bus from Hobart to Nubeena return which stops at Murdunna store and we would be happy to pick-up and drop-off guests if we are able to do so. However, preferably guests should have their own transport to get around and take full advantage of the area. Other Things to NoteWe can accommodate extra guests in fold-out beds if required. So can take more than two guests. Enquire about additional alternative accommodation. We keep chickens and have our own vegetable and fruit garden and we make our own jam and bottled produce and when available serve it for breakfast together with our delicious free range freshly laid chicken eggs The Forestier Peninsula where our home is located is a quiet, beautiful and peaceful area where guests can relax away from the noise and bustle of city life. However, please note that here there are limited shopping facilities south of Sorell and restaurants close early (sometimes 4pm) so it is better to buy provisions in Sorell if you want to prepare your own dinner or one can eat out at one of the two local hotels (approximately 10 - 15 minutes drive from our house). The hotel kitchens normally serve dinner between 6pm and 8pm but times should be checked.

The SpaceIf you are looking for somewhere special to stay in one of the most ruggedly beautiful areas of Tasmania look no further than Wildwood Retreat! Wildwood Retreat is a beautifully appointed fully self contained one bed luxury apartment that offers city comfort in a stunning rural setting! Wildwood retreat lies in its own private kingdom surrounded by 50 acres of pristine native Eucalypt forest (on 3 sides) in the bucolic idyll of Koonya that lies on the banks of cascade Bay on the spectacular Tasman Peninsula. The retreat enjoys stunning views over rolling pasture to Cascade Bay and Norfolk Inlet with mountain backdrop. A 'perfect picture box scene' where the light and mood changes constantly! The retreat adjoins Wildwood (our home) BUT is fully self contained and enjoys its own private driveway, garden area and entry so guests can relax and come and go at their leisure. Importantly, there are only two of us the vast majority of the time and so its very peaceful ..... you won't even know we are there! The retreat bedroom is extremely spacious with floor to ceiling windows. There is a Kingsize Bed, BIR, contemporary desk and leather recliner. The bedroom also has a generous sized ensuite with underfloor heating, quality towels and soaps, heated towel rails, free standing bath and walk in shower. A hairdryer and robes are also provided. NOTE: The retreat is designed as a couples retreat however does have a double sofa bed in the upper level living area for an occasional extra guest. Though we provide a mattress topper for the sofa bed it will not offer the same level of comfort as a proper bed. There is a beautiful modern stainless steel and timber spiral staircase in the retreat lobby/entry area that leads guests up to the spacious contemporary open plan living/kitchen/dining area on the second level. The upper level living area has floor to ceiling windows that offer spectacular views of pasture, pristine forest and Cascade Bay in the near distance. Guests will feel as if they are literally floating amongst the treetops - a perfect place to relax, de-stress and commune with nature! The kitchen has stone bench tops, quality stainless steel appliances including a Smeg Oven and cooktop, a coffee machine, fridge/freezer, microwave and dishwasher. However a breakfast hamper may be available subject to availability at an extra cost (conditions apply). The retreat is not suitable for people with disabilities or serious physical challenges. The area around the immediate property is relatively flat, however beyond the garden area the land is steep, the ground uneven, there is an open dam, unfenced stone terraces and stone steps to negotiate. Special care needs to be taken in Tasmania's wild places! Guest AccessGuests have their own parking area, garden area and entry area and will exclusive use of the retreat. Our guests comfort, privacy and happiness however is of the utmost importance to us! If we are here we would of course love to greet you but we are often away or working and so this may not always be possible. If we miss your arrival we won't disturb you unnecessarily, but please send us a text (or we will text you) to ensure that you are happy and that you have everything you need! We want absolutely to promote a sense of peace and seclusion and privacy at Wildwood and appreciate some guests may not wish to interact! If guests do - that is fabulous too, but we leave that decision in our guests hands! The NeighborhoodWildwood Retreat is situated in a beautiful and private rural/wilderness location. Koonya lies on the Port Arthur Tourist route and is about a 15 minute drive to both Port Arthur and Eagle Hawk Neck and local facilities in Nubeena. Koonya is central to accessing ALL activities and facilities. Many tourists choose to just do a day tour to Port Arthur Historic Site and they miss out hugely for there are many wonderful things to do here on the Tasman Peninsula. Here are some of my suggestions: 1. Visit Port Arthur Historic Site (perhaps even a ghost tour!) 2. Visit the Coal Mines Historic Site at Saltwater River … its much smaller than Port Arthur but is also interesting and free and is in a beautiful location! 3. Take an award winning boat trip with Pennicott Wilderness Tours that explores the coast from Eaglehawk Neck to Tasman Island: see seal colonies, giant kelp forests, whales (in season), albatross, sea eagles, the famous Totem Pole and the highest cliffs in the southern hemisphere. 4. Visit Port Arthur Lavender: browse the gift shop, then have a spot of lunch whilst enjoying stunning views of the inlet 5. Take a class at or visit the award-winning Mchenry Distillery at Port Arthur 6.. Take lunch at Garbielle's on the Bay at Taylor, Port Arthur OR award-winning Dunalley Waterfront Cafe and Gallery a 30 min drive away! 7. Explore Pirates Bay and other sites at Eaglehawk Neck including the rare geological formation of the Tesselated pavements, the convict 'Dog Line' and Officers quarters museum. Drive through the quirky doo town on your way to see the Devils Arch, Waterfall look out and the Blow Hole or enjoy some of the best fish and chips in Tasmania at "Doolishus". 8. Explore Tasman National Park - including the beautiful Fortescue Bay a large section of the Three Capes Walking Track offering sensational walks and views (2 phases now complete). 9. Explore the many coves and beaches on the peninsula including Safety Cove, Remarkable Caves, Stewarts Bay, Lime Bay and Sloping Main. 10. Enjoy some deep sea fishing or diving amongst the giant sea kelp forests 11. Para glide from the aerie at EagleHawk Neck - where many visitors and locals have seen (subject to the right conditions) the southern lights 12. Visit the Tasmanian Devil Park, Fudge Factory and local museum in Taranna 13. Just sit back, relax and de-stress with a glass of wine whilst enjoying the stunning views from the property …bliss! Getting AroundGuests will need their own vehicle. Public Transport is virtually non existent. There is a taxi service - Brian based in Murdunna and he is a blossom. Other Things to NoteWe are battling the native fur balls with respects to our new landscaping and the extended area on the land and driveway in is still being landscaped, however this will NOT impact on your stay, private areas or enjoyment of the property.

You can enjoy this comfortable light and airy beach cottage offering one of the very best panoramic views you will see at White Beach on the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania. White Beach is a wonderful base for a busy holiday schedule. It is around 10km to Port Arthur, one of Australia's top tourist attractions. The Port Arthur site entry fee will let you explore over 2 days with its 24 hour ticket. Experience the ghost tour after dark. Several day walks are within a half hour drive from the cottage to the start of the walk. Spend a day walking out to Cape Raoul, or at low tide visit stunning Shipstern Bluff. If you haven't time for the whole walk, at least make it to the look-out for the most stunning views. Cape Hauy offers spectacular scenery and extensive track work has made this a very popular day walk. Fortescue Bay also offers creative opportunities for those who like to paint, draw or photograph. If you are up for it, surf at Roaring Beach or Shipstern Bluff. Take a picnic and visit other beaches on the Peninsula, including Slopen Main and Shelly Beach. The historic Coal Mines at Saltwater River is also an excellent convict piece of history to wander around for free. Once again the views there are truly amazing. Don't forget to leave time for visiting the Tasmanian Devil Unzoo park and the Federation Chocolate Factory at Taranna. When you are ready for some food or a coffee visit the Port Arthur Lavender Farm. While at the cottage, relax in the morning sun while enjoying a leisurely breakfast on the spacious deck. Take in the fantastic beach and water views of the bay here at White Beach. Observe boats bobbing on their moorings or out for a spot of southern flathead fishing. The calm waters of the bay are also enjoyed by water-skiers, jet skiers and numerous kayakers. If you are bringing a boat you will find room in the back yard for easy parking. White Beach itself is excellent for long walks to clear away the cobwebs. It is less than 500 metres to the little beach. Once on the little beach, at low tide it is an easy scramble past the boat sheds and rocks onto the main beach. Enjoy beach combing for shells and be sure to spend time exploring the rock pools for crabs, starfish and sea anenomes. White Beach has firm sand which also makes it really pleasant for a run or a bike ride. If the weather should turn wet or cool, relax on the couch and read, play board games, cards or watch dvds (plenty available, suited to all ages). There is plenty of lighting so if you bring your knitting, crocheting or stitching you will be able to see well enough to do these at night. Perhaps you have the urge to whip up a batch of scones or cinnamon scrolls because the fresh sea air activities have given you an appetite. The kitchen is well equipped with a mix-master, measuring utensils, bowls and tins for these spontaneous urges to bake. The kitchen has a dishwasher to aid a quick clean-up. The fridge is a large family sized one with a generous sized freezer on top. Other cooking appliances include an electric wok, electric rice cooker, electric grill for perfect toasted sandwiches and those other meals when you don't want to use the bbq (which is conveniently located on the deck). There is a coffee machine, coffee plunger, a (decent) teapot and a variety of teas for fellow tea lovers. There are three bedrooms. One bedroom has a double bed and the other two bedrooms contain bunk beds, both with the bottom bed being a double bed and a single bed on top. We understand many pets are one of the family, but please do let us know if you are travelling with pets and will have them with you at Penguins. Why Penguins for a name? Once inside the cottage, the reason becomes clear. However, there are penguin colonies on the Tasman Peninsula, and information regarding where to view the Little (Fairy) Penguin is given in the information booklet at the cottage. The Tasman Peninsula is abundant in bird life. Often you will see black swans, especially in the water around Premaydena. Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are frequent visitors in the banksia trees around the cottage. Honey-eater birds enjoy the nectar of the grevilea bushes. Brightly-coloured green parrots, galahs, wrens and finches are regularly sighted and swallows return in the Spring. Kookaburras frequently perch on the railing of the deck and eye you off with great curiosity. At dusk or early morning, small marsupials including the Eastern barred bandicoots burrow in the front yard, while Bennetts wallabies, paddy melons and other marsupials graze on the grass. Often echidnas and blue-tongue lizards wander through the yard and under the cottage. We hope you enjoy your stay in our fun and pleasant cottage here in our beautiful state of Tasmania. If you have any questions, please feel welcome to ask. The highest sea-cliffs in Australia are on the Tasman Peninsula. In June you September you may see whales in many of the waters surrounding the Tasman Peninsula. Penguins offers guests spectacular views of the beach and bay, less than 500 metres away. The cottage is quickly heated if the weather should be cold. Great hot showers in clean rain water. Spacious kitchen. Large deck & bbq. Surrounded by bird and bush life. Relax. A terrific cottage for a family group, to comfortably accommodate several adults and children.
