The SpaceThis 1400 sq ft apartment is geared towards families, couples and groups or it can be a luxurious space for one. We are located in a quiet residential subdivision, off the main road for a peaceful stay. Furnished with 1 king bed, 2 queen beds, one twin bed plus 2 fold down couches in the living room means there is room for your family or group while visiting beautiful Haida Gwaii. In my opinion it is comfortable for 7 depending if you are couples or singles, but if you are needing to squish in a few more the fold down couches would work in a pinch. We also have a playpen, booster seat and child gate available for our younger guests. There is a deck off the living room with a peaceful view of Bearskin Bay in one direction and our lush forest covered mountains in the other. Birds are plentiful in our neighborhood and can been seen everywhere from the deck. The whole of Haida Gwaii is a bird sanctuary drawing many to the west coast to view the 140 or so bird species like a Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, Stellar's Jay, Trumpeter Swan, Canada Goose, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red Tailed Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, Green-winged Teal, Bufflehead, Song Sparrow and so many more. For the hiking enthusiasts there are two well marked trails just steps from the front door. A new community space containing tennis court, tot park, outdoor adult exercise circuit, skate park, pump track and teen center is only 1/2 block away. There is off street parking for two cars and the house includes shared laundry facilities with our downstairs tenant. Guest AccessThe house is divided into 2 apartments with the upper portion being for Airbnb guests and the lower portion rented to an elderly long term tenant. The entrance and laundry facility is shared with our other tenant. Our long term tenant has 2 kitties on the property. Interaction with GuestsI live and work a few houses away and will be available most times for guest questions/requests. For any inquiries before and during your stay please contact us, we are happy to answer your questions. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is all about family and friendly neighbors. A new family park that includes a skate board park, tot park, teen center, tennis court, ball hockey rink and pump track is just moments from the house. Two great trail heads are located right out the front door for those interested in bush hikes. In summer the house is surrounded by local berries for the picking. Salmon berries, red huckleberries, thimble berries and blackberries are abundant. Getting AroundThere is no public transit on Haida Gwaii. You are best to bring a car or rent one. Cabs are also available but operating times might be limited. If you are flying in, the airport shuttle will bring you right to our door. Other Things to NoteThere is a full kitchen and we try to keep some essentials stocked for your arrival. Salt, pepper, olive oil, sugar, tea, and coffee plus some snacks and ingredients will be available in our cupboards. On occasion a late ferry ride or delayed plane might leave you arriving after the grocery stores are closed.
