The SpaceSleep beneath the stars while still enjoying the comforts of home. Staying in a yurt offers the best of both worlds: in an open floor plan, off the grid, beautiful round space that encourages serenity. The heat source is a wood burning stove, and the hot water is on-demand. The yurt has one queen size bed (mattress) and one full bed (futon), and two single camping cots. The walls are thick, insulated canvas that invite you to wake with the morning songbirds and sunrise, and fall asleep to the lullaby of crickets or distant coyote song at night. With a clear 6' diameter ceiling dome, watch the stars dance across the sky, or clouds sail by.
The yurt is located at the edge of a ten acre property shared with two homes, one tiny guest house, 18 goats (including 10 adorable baby goats!), 30 chickens + chicks hatching each week, 2 ducks, 1 dog, one playground, one garden, and lots of beauty and adventure.
Near the truly stunning beaches of the California coast, amazing wineries, and gorgeous hiking; also close to the university town of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, there is plenty nearby to explore and enjoy.
Please see more farm life photos on our Instagram at tierradelcielofarm! Guest AccessThe entire yurt and surrounding area are yours to enjoy. Separated from the main house and yard, and tucked away on a sloping hillside, this location offers peaceful privacy and quiet. We do have a playground which you are welcome to share, and our goats, chickens, and ducks love visitors! Interaction with GuestsGuests are welcome to explore and enjoy the 10 acre property; we might be away much of the weekend or working and/or playing outside ourselves, but typically our paths wouldn't cross unless you wanted them to -we're happy to share some local lore with you or leave you to enjoy the solitude of rural living :) The NeighborhoodThe yurt is located down a windy country road about 10 minutes from both Santa Margarita Lake in one direction, and in the other, the town of Santa Margarita - a small 'town' area on both sides of the road El Camino Real, where you can find The Porch Cafe, The Southern Station cafe and restaurant, The Range steakhouse, Dunbar Brewery, Ancient Peaks Wine Tasting, and Margarita Adventures, a local zip line and winery adventure tour. About 20 minutes away lies the university town of San Luis Obispo, with many parks, restaurants, cafes, wine bars, music, nightlife, and a busy community with lots to see and explore. Within 30 minutes are several breathtakingly beautiful beaches along the Central Coast of California. Getting AroundAlthough a car is necessary to get to the yurt, the town of Santa Margarita has bus transit to San Luis Obispo and beaches. There is plenty of parking very near the yurt. We can offer directions to and from local transit. The nearest airport (SBP) is about 25 minutes away by car. Other Things to Note*special update: ten adorable goats have been born within the last few weeks, and so far, seventeen chicks have been born in the last few days. Please enjoy some baby goat & chick snuggles during your stay.
*The yurt is a rustic, solar powered, off-grid beauty, with plenty of home-made charm. The heat source is wood-burning stove, with oak harvested from the land. There are quirks which are inherent to yurt living, including the fact that the yurt sounds like drumming when its raining (my 3 year old said it was like being in a popcorn popper)! The bathroom (with shower and toilet) and kitchen (with sink, camp stove, and cooler, and dishes/kitchenware) are homemade, built with uninsulated walls and corrugated windows; built with simplicity and necessity in mind - not luxurious, but great to have :) The electricity is run by solar panels, and does require a little mindfulness to work out the switches and details; and it does infrequently run out (don't worry, we have lanterns). The shower is made from a (new) horse trough. There is a regular flush toilet.
The yurt is outdoor-shoes-free, because this is a farm, so please bring slippers if you like.
