Things to See and Do
Santa Rosa is in the heart of Sonoma County’s wine-country. It’s home to many great restaurants, a fun nightclub scene, a great air museum featuring the “First Responder” an F-15 Eagle the was the first plane to fly over New York city on 9/11, and the F-14 Tomcat featured in Tom Cruise’s film “Top Gun.” Santa Rosa is also the home of the late “Peanuts” creator Charles Schulz. His museum, gift shop, and ice arena are great places to visit. Just north of the city is Safari West, a private animal preserve with over 400 acres. It’s home to over 90 different species of about 900 exotic mammals and birds. Napa Valley is to the east, Mendocino County to the north. To the west, it's a beautiful 40 minute drive, through the Redwoods to the Pacific ocean. On the way, you may want to visit Korbel Champagne Cellars. It’s the largest champagne producer in the U.S. and one of the few remaining wineries with free tours and tastings. San Francisco is about 50 miles south, but you have to cross the Golden Gate Bridge to get there (darn!). Interaction with GuestsI stay out of the way, but am willing to provide tips on local attractions, restaurants, night-life, etc. I'm also familiar with San Francisco's attractions...If the weather's nice, we can even take my Jeep out to the ocean and grab lunch... The NeighborhoodLocated in Vista del Lago, a planned development, it's a short walk to the clubhouse where you'll find 2 heated pools, tennis courts, basketball court, hot tub, sauna, etc. The pools and hot tub are open daily (seasonal hours).
Across the street from the complex is a beautiful 18-hole city-owned golf course (with a great restaurant) and park. Nearby is a small shopping center with Chinese, Japanese, Italian, and Mexican restaurants, shops, grocery and drug stores - and the all-important Starbucks... Getting AroundLocal bus service is 2 blocks away...Uber, Lift, and cab service are also available. Other Things to NoteThe home was destroyed by fire in 2007 - that's the bad news...the good news is that it has been completely rebuilt with the latest improvements and compliance with building codes. It has solar power, instant hot-water, and many other amenities.
