The SpaceTeniqua Treetops is a unique, tented tree house resort, occupying a position high on the foothills of the ancient Outeniqua mountain range, yet situated along the magical Garden Route, close to the magnificent sea shores of the Western Cape, South Africa.
Set in acres of pristine indigenous forest, on South Africa's Garden Route, Teniqua Treetops brings you an experience that may be quietly life-changing. Eco-friendly, self-catering, tree houses provide a secluded, romantic honeymoon destination, a haven for nature lovers. A holiday with us will re launch you into the world relaxed, reinvigorated and rejuvenated.
Swim in the cola-coloured water of the remote and unspoiled Karatara river, picnic on its beautiful banks and explore the deep forested gorge. Or chill out on the wooden deck of our swimming complex perched high on the hill, the converted farm dams are fun for both kids and adults.
All our treehouses are self-catering with the emphasis on environmental preservation and the maximum use of natural products and materials in construction and functionality. You'll love the peace and quiet, the sounds of the forest, river and bird song, and on occasion, the sound of the sea.
Sedgefield (23km) is our nearest village for supplies. It sports a supermarket, restaurants, hotel, post office, famous Saturday morning craft and produce market and a church.
All treehouses have fully equipped kitchen facilities including cookers, microwaves, fridges, and all utensils. Linen is provided and is changed every 3 or 4 days. The tree houses are fully serviced.
Our tree houses offer a unique opportunity to sleep, eat and shower up in the canopy of the forest, surrounded by birdsong and butterflies. Built on hand crafted platforms and situated in carefully chosen beauty spots, they have comfortable tented bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens and leafy luxury bathrooms.
It's the ultimate romantic holiday or family fun in the sun - memorable and authentic.
In addition to your own tree house, you'll find that all your basic needs are taken care of at Teniqua Treetops. It's a real experience staying with us, one that you ought to take time to settle into, just chill out and enjoy doing very little...
To help you into the right frame of mind, each tree house has comfortable seating, indoors and out, braais on the deck and beautiful, unusual bathing or showering facilities, usually with fabulous views. The tree houses are all private and although you can see afar, no-one will disturb your privacy.
On site and close to the homestead, is a family braai area with table and seating, an indoor games room with exercise equipment, table tennis, games etc.
Outside, you'll find a big jungle gym with a swing and a sandpit for the kids. There's also a trampoline to keep them amused.
We have 2 farm dams converted to swimming pools with easy chairs and decks, a great place to sunbathe and cool off.
The smaller dam is a children's pool and it's right in sight of the main pool, so you'll have peace of mind, with kids nearby.
Then there's the river walk. It's quite strenuous as it's down into the Karatara gorge where you'll find a lovely array of rock pools, cold, cola-coloured but potable river water, beautiful foliage and plant life and of course, plenty of birds, lizards etc. Bask on the rocks for awhile and then chill out in the rock pools.
It's fun to take a picnic and spend a few hours. The walk along the river is very special and you won't meet anyone along the way...
For those foolish enough to want to do some work, we have a 16 person conference centre with 2 breakaway rooms and a wireless hotspot. This is a wonderful environment for a meeting, particularly if you want somewhere off the beaten track with ample parking for all attending.
Within the immediate vicinity, you'll find a selection of moderate walks and views difficult to surpass. Beyond the Northern boundary is a private estate, similarly to the south is another farm. Our Western boundary is the Karatara River and gorge and our Eastern boundary stretches just beyond the farm road, into cultivated pine forest, no development.
Our treehouses are situated in a Private Nature Reserve,
a protected area of outstanding natural beauty and of special scientific interest. You may see Southern Cape Bushbuck, other smaller animals and possibly, if you're really quiet and lucky, the elusive leopard.
All our guests are charmed and delighted by the birds that inhabit the forest. Butterflies, insects and lizards abound.
These are some of the birds that we've seen. We've also heard owls and other raptors in the forest. In one weekend, over 50 species of birds were identified by one of our guests....
We were also able to capture the visit from a spectacular Knysna Loerie into one of our tree houses

Black Headed Oriole

There is also a games room and swimming pools, all facilities are available to guests. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the farm and there is always someone available to help with your queries or to resolve any problems. The NeighborhoodWe are 20 minutes from Sedgefield and 30 minutes from Knysna, there are great restaurants in both towns. Sedgefield has large beaches, my favourite it where the river meets the sea. There are sections of shallow safe river for kids to play in. Getting AroundA car is essential for the Garden route, there is so much to see. Horse-riding, boat trips, paragliding, bungee jumping, tubing, hiking, markets, tree-gliding / canopy tours, Segways, cycling, shops, crafts, nature reserves, game reserves, the list is endless. The Garden Route covers a large area and places are far apart. Other Things to NoteThe tree houses are self-catering and hidden in the forest. So you need to bring all your own supplies
