The Space"Seneca House" is kind of like a cross between a bed & breakfast and a hostel. You will not be served breakfast, but you will feel right at home and comfortable here. You'll have access to the kitchen to prepare your own meals if you want to, and will most likely meet some other interesting guests during your stay. The house is located 5 miles from Seneca Rocks, WV. It is a newly built rustic cabin built entirely by friends (no contractors!) with many unique features. There is a lot of reclaimed barn wood throughout the house, as well as hand crafted doors, a spiral staircase, stone fireplace, and more. It is in a nice quiet setting on a country road in rural West Virginia. There is a large common area, back deck, full kitchen, fireplace, and outside fire pit. There is no cable TV, however there is Netflix and a DVD player available in the common area, and free wifi throughout the house. There are 3 bedrooms available in the house to rent. This listing is for the double room. There is a double bed and desk in the room. It is located on the second floor, with a small balcony off of it. This room is called the "Triangle Room," and is a favorite of many! There are 2 shared bathrooms in the house, one with a normal shower, and one with a Jacuzzi tub/shower. This is also a private home. I live in the house and share the facilities, as does my hound dog, "Bubba Lou." Bubba Lou is extremely friendly, and has been known to act like a hound dog on occasion. Meaning, sometimes he barks. But he usually sleeps through the night quite soundly. There are also chickens, a rooster, and two pygmy goats, peacocks, and cats on the property. The cats do not come in the house. The house is near Seneca Rocks, the Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, Nelson Rocks Outdoor Center, Canaan Valley, Blackwater Falls, and many other tourist attractions. Guest AccessGuests have access to the kitchen, living room, back deck, grill, internet... Interaction with GuestsI am usually around when guests are here. I sometimes interact quite a bit, but other times less so, depending what else I have going on when they are here. I do share the facilities with them (bathroom, kitchen, etc.), so there will always be some interaction. The NeighborhoodSeneca Rocks is quite literally in the middle of nowhere. It is a very small town nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. There are many points of interest in the area, but to see these places please expect to do some mountain driving while you are here. In the town of Seneca Rocks, which is about 5 miles from the house there are 2 stores with souvenirs and limited grocery items. There is a newly opened Subway restaurant, plus a couple local places to eat, but the choices are pretty limited. There are the rocks, with a hiking trail to the top. There is also a swimming hole in the river at the base of the rocks. The following places are popular among visitors, including driving times from Seneca House: Seneca Rocks (5 minutes) Nelson Rocks (20 minutes) (Via Ferrata, Zip Lines) Dolly Sods (45 minutes) (great hiking) Spruce Knob (45 minutes) (highest point in WV, great hiking) Blackwater Falls (45 minutes) Seneca Caverns (15 minutes) Smoke Hole Caverns (15 minutes) Davis/Thomas (45 minutes) (the nearest bars/nightlife, and best restaurants are here) Whitegrass (30 minutes) (cross country skiing) Canaan Valley (30 minutes) (downhill skiing, mountain biking) Snowshoe (1 hour) (downhill skiing) Getting AroundMany GPS units do not work properly in the mountains here, and often my house is shown in the wrong location. Please do not rely 100% on your GPS, and use these written directions for the last part of your trip: From Petersburg/Moorefield/ I-81S (the North/East): Follow 28/55 South until you reach the 3-way stop sign in Seneca Rocks. Turn right. After about 4 miles you will come to Onego. There is a large white church at the corner of Roaring Creek Road. Turn right on Roaring Creek. Seneca House is exactly 1 mile up Roaring Creek, on the left side. From Elkins / I-79 (the West): Follow 33 East. About 4 miles before you reach Seneca Rocks, you will enter Onego. There is a large white church on the left. Turn left here, on Roaring Creek Road. Seneca House is 1 mile up Roaring Creek on the left side. From Franklin/Harrisonburg/I-81N (The South/East): Follow 33 West until you reach the 3-way stop sign in Seneca Rocks. Turn left here. After about 4 miles you will come to Onego. There is a large white church at the corner of Roaring Creek Road. Turn right on Roaring Creek. Seneca House is exactly 1 mile up Roaring Creek, on the left side. Other Things to NoteATTENTION FAMILIES: I am sorry, but for several reasons, only children 12 and older will be allowed to stay in the house. Please consider staying in the renovated barn as an alternative if you have young children. There is no cell phone service in Seneca Rocks or at Seneca House.

The SpaceWe recently completed renovating this very quaint barn! It has its own private bathroom and kitchenette (microwave, small fridge, toaster, and coffee maker)(THIS IS NOT A FULL KITCHEN). Located just 5 minutes from Seneca Rocks, WV on a quiet country road, it's the perfect location for an escape from the real world. If you're looking to get in touch with nature, this is the place for you! There is no cell phone service in the area, but free Wifi reaches the barn. There is also a TV with DVD player, but no cable TV. There is a queen bed and twin bed in the room. Sheets, blankets, towels, etc are provided. Please note, this is a true barn. Just two doors down live 2 pygmy goats, chickens, and a peacock. The birds do roam freely around the yard. There are also 2 cats that live next door, and the peacock often enjoys roosting on the roof. You may hear some animal noises in the night... (The cats do not go into the area where you will stay. There is no cat odor and people with cat allergies should not have a problem.) The barn is situated close to the house, where I live, and rent out rooms on the weekends. I am usually around, but not always. There is a charcoal grill and a fire pit in the yard, which you are welcome to use as well. However, you will not have access to the kitchen in the house. I also have a hound dog named Bubba Lou. He is adorable and loves to meet people. He runs around the yard and woods freely during the day, and sleeps inside at night. He is a hound dog, and has been known to bark. I do my best to have him inside and quiet through the night, but on occasion you may hear him bawling in the evening or morning if he's hot on the trail of something good in the woods. He does like to greet the cats in the morning, and is usually pretty vocal about it. For a unique experience come stay in the Seneca House barn! **The barn is not centrally heated or insulated. Expect cold nighttime temperatures in the spring and fall. There is a space heater in the barn that will take the bite out of the air, but be prepared for a cold night when staying in May, September, or October. (It has been known to drop below freezing!) The barn is not available over the winter. Guest AccessGuests have access to the barn and yard surrounding it. They do not have access to the house or the kitchen in the house. Interaction with GuestsThe barn is situated very close to my house. If I'm home I'm happy to answer questions or help with any problems. I'm home often, but not all the time. Other Things to Note**There is an extra charge for a 3rd person, including children 12 and older, so please include them when you mark the number of guests. **The barn is great for families. If you can make the bedding work, it is OK for 2 adults and 2 children to stay. **Dogs are permitted in the barn for an extra fee ($10 per pet per night, please advise when requesting so I can adjust the price, or be prepared to pay cash once you are here). Also if you bring a dog, please do not leave your dog unattended in the barn unless you have a crate.

The farm is a recreational farm and a wild life habitat that includes timber and deer management as our goal. A "walk in the woods" is led by a master naturalist in the Spring and Fall. The log guesthouse, originally built in 1834 as home for George and Elizabeth Judy Cowger (Larry's great-great grandparents), sits on the back portion of a large tract of land owned by the Cowger descendants. Presently, the log house is accessible only by a timber road. The South Fork of the South Branch of the Potomac River runs through the property. The valley in which it is located provides river access and a view of the mountains. Thus, there is hiking, climbing, fishing, hunting (with permission), wading, bird watching, nature walks, photo shots, or just sitting on the porch and enjoying the view, peace and quiet. Our guests are encouraged to come, relax, and enjoy what God has provided and to "unplug" from distractions. There is telephone service for emergencies as well as wireless service at our residence at the front of the property (8/10 mile). Cell phone service is not available in the area. The log house comfortably sleeps ten (10) people. Facilities include 3 bedrooms with 2 double beds and 6 twin/bunk beds, 1 roll away bed, 2 bathrooms, 2 fireplaces with propane gas logs, and a fully equipped kitchen with a wood burning stove, gas cook stove, and full size refrigerator. Electricity is provided by a solar panel. The rustic camping area for several self-contained small campers is located near the river. Special rates can be discussed for day time get-togethers and monthly rentals. Beds: 2 Double Beds, 6 Twin Beds

Some include two-person jacuzzis and fireplaces. Our log cabin suites include a king bed, whirlpool tub, gas fireplace, loft with queen sleeper sofa, mini kitchen, and TV. Guests will enjoy the abundance of wildlife, wildflowers, birds, smallmouth bass and trout available in this protected wilderness area.
