Then this is the getaway you have been looking for. Nestled on a 5 acre estate, you can relax by the waterfalls and fountain, or work out in the gym or sharpen up your pool skills in the games room. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen with microwave, coffee maker, and full size stove and fridge. The living area has a 46” flat screen TV and DVD player with wifi internet access. All the bedrooms feature queen sized beds, full closets and dressers, making your stay comfortable whether it be just for a couple of nights or a couple of weeks. There is even an in-suite washer and dryer. If you prefer the outdoors, the Trans Canada Trail backs right onto the property for biking, hiking or ATV access to other trails. The historic Kinsol Tresstle and Provincial Park are also minutes away by car or bicycle. If you prefer watersports, the lake access and boat ramp are also located very close by. Bring your bike, boat, RV, quad or other toys; we have room to park them all. This is a great base for your year round activities. If you are visiting Shawnigan Lake for the many annual sporting events such as the Half Iron Man, or Half Marathon, this is an ideal location to stay.       The SpaceThe moment you turn down our quiet cul-de-sac, you'll feel as if you’ve escaped to a far-away retreat...but all the amenities you need are just a walk away. Our 2,500sf, two-level home consists of three baths, five bedrooms, a large art studio, a living room with media area, a full kitchen, dining room, laundry room and sunroom with infrared sauna. There's plenty of space to gather and socialize. Outdoors you'll find a covered deck overlooking a small clearing surrounded by cedars and firs. If you follow the path down past the cozy firepit, you'll find little trails to follow amongst the trees. The 1,500sf enclosed sandy area is the perfect place to set up a games area or put up some tents for extra guests. Guest AccessThe price listed will accommodate up to 8 guests with access to: - The kitchen and dining room with full fridge, glass-top stove, microwave, dishwasher, large dining table, and fully stocked coffee and tea bar. Also provided are spices and condiments, cookware and serving-ware. Guests are expected to provide their own food and tidy up after themselves, unless otherwise arranged. - The livingroom and media area, complete with woodstove, TV, DVD and BluRay player with over 100 movies, an original Nintendo system with several games, cards and boardgames, and a professional fooseball table. - The Sunroom with skylights and a gorgeous green view of the backyard. An infrared sauna, single daybed and coffee nook make it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a morning tea or an evening glass of wine. - Two full bathrooms. We suggest enjoying the guest bath upstairs with its rain shower head and deep soaker tub. - Our two acre property, including a firepit with a lovely view of the night sky. With some notice, we can provide free firewood and kindling...or even get your fire started for you! Sleeping accommodations include: - The Beach Guest Room, located upstairs, comfortably sleeps two, with a luxury pillow-top queen bed. This is the perfect room for the guest(s) of honour. - The Study, directly next to the Beach Guest Room, can be used as a sitting room with couch and is the perfect place to set up a crib. Otherwise, it can accommodate two on an extremely plush double-high queen aerobed or one or two single people on twin comfy foam mattresses. - The Retro Room, across from The Office, is a cozy little room with a skylight for a view of the stars with a double bed. Complete with antique furniture and a vintage feel. - The Music Room, located downstairs, can sleep two in the wonderfully comfortable pillow-top queen bed. The room has an eclectic boho feel, and includes a digital grand piano, guitar, banjo, djembe and other various instruments for your music-making pleasure. **Plush shower towels and organic toiletries are provided. ____________________________________________________________________________ We have several other options for accommodating more guests and/or providing extra common space. Please see the "Other Things to Note" section for more details. ____________________________________________________________________________ Interaction with GuestsWe are a social and friendly couple in our early 30's who love to entertain, but also understand the importance of privacy. We will be in the home throughout the majority of your visit to provide you with anything you might need. We have our own master suite, including a private bath and sitting area, but we'll share the common areas with you. We are more than happy to make your acquaintance and entertain you as much as you'd like to be entertained. However, if you're looking for privacy during your stay, please let us know and we will make ourselves as scarce as possible. We have some great tips for sightseeing and hiking in the area and would be delighted to share them with you. We regularly enjoy tea in the sunroom or drinks around the fire in the evenings and it would be a treat for you to join us, if you wish. Your hosts are both excellent cooks and will gladly discuss menu and costs with you should our schedule allow it during your stay. Our family includes an overly happy but well-behaved pup and two outdoor-only kitties who may or may not join you on the deck, depending on their moods. ____________________________________________________________________________ The NeighborhoodThe property is secluded and private, yet close to all amenities. The acreage backs onto a train-track walking trail that will take you to sandy Mason's Beach, a pub, a liquor store and a convenience store in less than 7 minutes. Another short stroll will bring you to Shawnigan Village, where you'll find a quaint bakery, coffee shop and several restaurants, ranging from fine dining to Subway. Another small jaunt along the trail will bring you to the Government Wharf where you can enjoy a swim at the beach or arrange for a kayak or wakeboard lesson. Countless other restaurants, a grocery store, several provincial parks and beaches, and many wineries can be accessed by a bike or car in less than 15 minutes. The home is just over 35 minutes from the city of Victoria and is a great place to overnight on your way up island to Tofino or beyond. It's also a lovely place to just kick back and enjoy a relaxing weekend. ____________________________________________________________________________ Getting AroundWalking and bicycles are a great way of exploring the surrounding area. The town provides reliable but infrequent local bus service as well. Taxi service does exist, but this is a small town and long waits aren't unheard of. Greyound and IslandLink provide service to the Northern and Southern parts of the island. Please note that Victoria/North Island services are fairly limited with their trips and pre-booking is necessary. We're happy to help with trip planning if requested. Shawnigan Lake is a very short trip to the Mill Bay ferry, and less than an hour drive to both the Departure Bay and Swartz Bay ferry terminals. Parking for up to eight vehicles is available on the property. ____________________________________________________________________________ Other Things to NoteMore than 8 guests? If you require further sleeping space, we can provide the following at $40 per guest per night, up to 16 guests total: - The Art Studio, located upstairs, has a gorgeous view and sitting area, including a tolerably comfortable queen-sized pull-out couch and/or a deluxe double high queen aerobed. The room is quite large and could easily accommodate an extra cot or two for up to a total of 6 guests. - The Sunroom daybed can easily be set up to accommodate an extra sleeper. While this rustic room isn't insulated, privacy curtains and the ridiculously plush, warm bedding with heated blanket make it possible to sleep here year round. This bed has been known to cozily accommodate two and has received rave reviews, but as it's slightly smaller than a double, we recommend double-occupancy to snuggle-lovers only. - A 1970's high-top sleeper van, lovingly referred to as the Hippie Suite, is available for one or two extra guests. With 6'5" ceilings, an electric pump water sink, heater, curtains and a double bed, this newly-renovated little room on wheels is more comfortable than you could imagine. We park this little home away from home so guests can easily access the house for late-night bathroom trips. - The Portable Room is a 2009 utility trailer converted into a bedroom. Complete with wood-lined walls, heater, lighting, artwork and a queen deluxe aerobed, this has been referred to as luxury camping at its finest! In the warmer months, the double back doors open for a beautiful view of the trees and sky. This little haven is placed close to the house for easy bathroom access as well. - At times when extra indoor sleeping space has been needed, the laundry room has also served as a private bedroom and fits up to a queen mattress. The arrangement is comfy, but not lavish, so we only recommend this space as a last resort for sleepers who prefer privacy over luxury. - Camping for up to 5 large tents close to the house. With plenty of warm weather from as early as March to as late as November, our 1,500sf fenced sandy area is a lovely place to sleep under the stars. ____________________________________________________________________________ Celebrating a Special Occasion?       The SpaceJust minutes from the Trans-Canada Trail, we offer a unique accommodation experience. Located in the mountains south of Duncan, the 10 acre eco-homestead has gorgeous organic gardens and stunning views. Our family makes friendliness and good food a priority! The one-room 240 sq. ft timber-framed cabin is made out of "light-clay"- or woodchips and clay mixed and packed together to form walls. This is covered with earthen plaster, creating a unique and beautiful finish. There is a double bed and bunk beds for families/extra friends. A queen mattress can be laid down if an extra bed is needed. *Our land-partner rents out "Gullyside" cabin (just steps away) so larger groups can book both (separately). There is a wood stove for heat and sink with cold water. There is a toaster oven, electric kettle, small fridge, 2 burner stove and coffee maker. Facilities are rustic- there is an outhouse (about 50 feet away) and outdoor solar shower (seasonally), as well as shared bath in the family home. We are two families who have 4 young boys between us, so life around the homestead is active and busy. We have large organic gardens and a greenhouse as try to eat from the garden as much as we can. We have laying chickens and a couple cats. Though we are just minutes from the Trans-Canada trail, we are 15 minutes to the highway, 25 minutes by car to Duncan, or 1 hour to Victoria. It is a journey out to us- part of the road is gravel. Breakfast is included in the cost, but guests would have a choice to have supper with us, for an extra fee of $15/adult. We eat delicious mostly organic/local, non-vegetarian meals (unless vegetarian is requested). Stay for one night, while cycling the Trail, or stay a week, and experience the natural beauty of the Island by exploring local hiking trails, the Koksilah river and the historic Kinsol Trestle. Guest AccessPark in the driveway and walk in to the cabin. Interaction with GuestsWe are usually around- we enjoy visiting and are friendly, but if you need privacy we respect that as well. The NeighborhoodWe are on a no-thru gravel strata road. The properties are large- mostly 10 acres. There are wonderful like-minded folks out here that we are privileged to call our friends and neighbors. Getting AroundThere is no public transport here. We are minutes from the Trans-Canada Trail so access can be by bike. There are hiking trails and bikes to borrow. It is a journey out and in- 15 minutes to the highway, 25 minutes to Duncan, over an hour to Victoria or Nanaimo. Other Things to NoteThe cabin comfortably accommodates 2 adults and 2 kids. It has a double bed, bunk beds, and an extra queen mattress that can come down onto the floor if you need the extra space. ***If you are an extra large group, our land-partner rents out his cottage "Gullyside" on Air B&B and can be booked separately. If you arrive in the late afternoon and would like to go out for dinner I have found that the guests enjoy to go to Cowichan Bay ... a unique fishing village on the water, less than 10 minutes away, with several restaurant options and a pub, all overlooking the marina. But meandering through the village is a treat anytime of day! Guests particularly love the local bakery. Getting AroundYou do need a car since the public transportation is quite far. We are a 45 minute drive north of downtown Victoria between Mill Bay and Cowichan Bay. Other Things to NoteCasa Miramar is a spacious guest house ... there are several rooms available for booking. On occasion, depending on the individual guests, more than one reservation is accepted at a time. The bathroom near 'the single room' and 'the queen room' has the only shower so will be used by all guests. There is another 2 piece bathroom near the kitchen which is mostly used by the guests in 'the loft room' but can also be used by all guests. It is rare to have more than one booking at a time but it does happen so I like for guests to know the situation before they book. If you are wanting a beautiful retreat setting, surrounded by nature and the sounds of birds and crickets, yet close to all the Valley has to offer, I would be happy to have you as a guest at Casamiramar.

Situated at the back of 3 naturally forested acres, the country home is comprised of 3 private apartments. Each apartment is comfortable and affords complete privacy on all sides. You will experience a sense of calm and retreat away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Note: When you book through this listing you are reserving exclusive use of the main floor of the house. The main floor of the house is 1500 sq feet of luxury country living. It includes the following for your use: two guest bedrooms, two en-suite bathrooms, a 1000 Sq foot great room with kitchen, dining, and living areas, front entrance hallway, and 4 decks offering views on all sides of the lush evergreen forest. On the lower level of the home is a laundry room with washer, dryer, laundry tub and drying rack. If the home owners are in residence in one of the lower level apartments then the laundry room is shared. Just let us know when you would like to use it and we will make it available to you. If we are away, the laundry room will be left open for your use at all times. Each of the two bedroom suites is beautifully decorated and furnished with queen size beds. The private en suite bathrooms have heated tile floors, natural lighting and spa-like atmospheres. Each of the bedroom suites has double wide glass doors leading out onto private decks with comfortable outdoor seating. You will love the luxurious pillow top mattresses, hotel quality linens, duvets and heavenly comfort pillows. Get ready for the best sleeps of your life with only the birds to wake you up. If you only need one bedroom the wall bed in the second bedroom can be stored away leaving open floor space for practicing yoga sun salutations and doing morning stretches. Exercise mats are provided. The generous great room incorporates an open and spacious gourmet kitchen and a gracious living and dining area with formal table seating for 4, 6, or 8. The table will be configured to seat 6 people. If you would like to seat more people, let us know and we will provide the additional table leaf. Onthe other hand, if you wish the table to be more intimate, we will remove the leaves and set it for four. Just let us know your needs. The kitchen bar has tall leather bar stools perfect for a chef's audience. The large sunny deck off the 2nd bedroom looks down over the 600' driveway, toward the campfire area, forest and seasonal 'Winter Pond'. You will need your sunscreen on a sunny summer day! Watch the deer come and go, the hummingbirds buzz the feeders, the wood-peckers remodel the forest, the squirrels scamper over the forest and listen to the bird-song in all the trees around the house. The surrounding Shawnigan Lake rural area and Village are fun to explore and if you would like to take local transit the bus route runs very nearby the house for pick-up and drop-off. A 5 minute drive or a 15 minute bicycle ride takes you to Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park where there is an expansive green space for outdoor relaxation and a safe swimming beach which has the sun until 4 pm every afternoon. You will walk through a magical old growth forest of cedars and fir to come out into the clearing of this pristine provincial lakeside park. You must not forget a day excursion to see the Koksilah River Provincial Park and the unique and awe-inspiring Kinsol Railway Trestle. Walking over this trestle, which has recently been completely renewed into an expansive pedestrian bridge, you will gaze down on the rapids in the river. When you walk the trestle and cross over to the trail on the other side you will be traversing one of the most picturesque sections of our glorious Trans-Canada Trail. Don't forget shopping and eating! Charming and quaint shopping areas are located close by in Shawnigan Village (4km) and Cobble Hill Village (8km). A good size shopping centre is located in Mill Bay (12km). Here in Mill Bay you will also find a mile long stretch of easy walking beach which has a gorgeous view across the Bay and looks down toward Finlayson Arm. The Village of Cowichan Bay, offers kayak rentals and lots of small cafes and seafood eateries and the town of Duncan with its own very quaint downtown area also has several shopping malls both in town and just outside of town. Cowichan Bay and Duncan are a 20 minute drive N. Other Things to NotePlease Note: Our house has a self-contained 1 bedroom suite located on the lower level at the back of the house. There is a long term renter residing in this suite. She is extremely quiet and rarely has any guests. She has two small older dogs who she walks twice per day, but she always accompanies them and they never bother anyone. This rental suite is completely private, with its' own private entrance and none of the windows overlook any part of the main house. Your own privacy (as guests of the Main House) will not be impacted in any way! You will likely not even know there is anyone else in residence as both the owner's studio suite, and the rental suite are so well insulated and strategically located. If you are traveling with a party of four we have two separate guest bedrooms to offer you. If you are traveling with a party of 1 or 2 then you will be hosted in Guest bedroom #1 but you would still have access to the sundeck off Guest bedroom #2 Each of the guest bedrooms includes a beautifully decorated and spacious bedroom, a private 4-piece en-suite bathroom with heated tile floor and double wide glass doors leading out onto a private wrap around deck with views over the natural fir and fern forest. You will love the luxurious pillow top mattresses, hotel quality linens, duvet and heavenly comfort memory foam pillows. Get ready for the best sleeps of your life with only the birds to wake you up. You can even lie in bed with your morning coffee, enjoying the view out to the forest while you stay cuddled up in your cozy retreat. If there are more than 2 in your party we will accommodate you in the 2nd guest suite. This room has a pull down wall bed with extra-depth pillow top mattress and hotel quality linens and duvet. There is private deck access from double wide glass doors onto a large sunny deck looking down over the 600' driveway, toward the campfire area, forest and seasonal 'Winter Pond'. The private 4-piece ensuite has a skylight to enhance your shower and spa experience. The generous great room incorporates kitchen, dining, island bar, living and wrap around decks. These common living areas are available for guests to share, and at certain times of the year, when the hosts are away, the whole house is made available to you for your exclusive use. A small fridge is available exclusively for your use. It is a 3" Ikea mattress topper which we then top with 1" memory foam. If they have sleeping bags, great, but if not, I can provide bedding for the floor mattress too. The surrounding Shawnigan Lake rural area and Village are fun to explore and if you would like to take local transit the bus route runs very nearby the house for pick-up and drop-off. A 5 minute drive or a 15 minute bicycle ride will take you to Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park where there is an expansive green space for outdoor relaxation and recreation and a nice, clean, swimming beach which has the sun until 4 pm every afternoon. You will walk through a magical old growth forest of cedars and fir to come out into the clearing of this pristine provincial lakeside park. You must not forget a day excursion to see the Koksilah River Provincial Park and the unique and awe-inspiring Kinsol Railway Trestle. Walking over this trestle, which has recently been completely renewed into an expansive pedestrian bridge, you will gaze down on the rapids in the river. When you walk the trestle and cross over to the trail on the other side you will be traversing one of the most picturesque sections of our glorious Trans-Canada Trail. Don't forget shopping and eating! Charming and quaint shopping areas are located close by in Shawnigan Village (4km) and Cobble Hill Village (8km). A good size shopping centre is located in Mill Bay (12km). Here in Mill Bay you will also find a mile long stretch of easy walking beach which has a gorgeous view across the Bay and looks down toward Finlayson Arm. The Village of Cowichan Bay, offer kayak rentals and lots of small cafes and seafood eateries and the town of Duncan with its own very quaint downtown area also has several shopping malls both in town and just outside of town. Cowichan Bay and Duncan are a 20 minute drive N. NOTE: At most times of the year this listing is for 1 or 2 private rooms, with private ensuites and decks and shared use of the kitchen and living areas.       The SpaceThis suite is on two acres in a rural setting but fairly close to most amenities (grocery stores, pharmacies, liquor stores, doctors offices, hiking trails, golf courses etc.) I think this suite would comfortably fit up to 2 adults with a couple of smaller children. Guest Accessthe guests will have access to the suite and deck and driveway for parking. The horse fields and barn are out of bounds, no access to them at all. (they are nice to look at!) There are no laundry facilities in the suite, arrangements could be made to use the main house laundry if needed. If a guest stays more than a week there would be clean linens weekly. Interaction with GuestsI will probably be home but will not interact much other than showing around. I would like to give the guests their privacy. The NeighborhoodI love hiking to and swimming in the natural quarry (a short distance away). Also, within a short driving distance another beautiful sight is the Historic Kinsol Trestle (part of the Trans-Canada Trail). Great for walking or bike riding. Cowichan is also known for it's vineyards, there are plenty within a short driving distance. It will bring you to two local shopping centres as well as to the little villages of Cowichan Bay or Shawnigan Lake and to the town of Duncan and beyond.       Other Things to NoteI would like to note, so that guests are not mislead by previous comments, that we originally operated this space as a B and B and offered a hot breakfast to guests. The earlier reviews speak of this breakfast. Beginning in July, 2015 we changed our advertisement so that it no longer states that breakfast is included. Anyone booking after July 15, 2015 would not have seen "breakfast included" in the advertisement. However, after reading earlier reviews they may have been confused. I would just like to make it clear that despite some reviews which comment on a hot breakfast, we are no longer offering this service, as per "amenities." We, however, are leaving a few breakfast items in the fridge which are complimentary.

There are many animals and birds to see at different times of the year. A pair of Ravens are often seen talking to each other up in the near-by trees. A big sun-deck has a barbeque. Lots of free parking. Free Wi-Fi. Free cable TV which is shared in the living room. A dishwasher is not included as there is no dishwasher installed which is in working condition. Also, if guests choose not to wash dishes a service fee will be charged. Please do cook bacon or use cooking oils or grease "No pets". The no pet policy is strict. Guests may not bring pets into the house. A cleaning fee paid with the damage and cleaning deposit for not welcomed pets. If guests choose to use the wood-stove manager will monitor wood-stove while guests are out and also explain the proper usage of wood-stove at check-in. For more privacy please do not use the wood stove for heat, but the electric baseboard heaters will keep the house warm for you. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a friendly place, the locals are very knowledgeable about the area. For young Children there is a local park which takes an adult 2 minutes to walk there. The lake is 1 minute walk from the village for swimming, boating, hiking and bird watching. Getting AroundFrom Vacation house "Moon Over Shawnigan" to the Village is walking distance, about 8 minutes, for cyclists this property is perfectly situated for many hours of enjoyable cycling. There is limited local bus service and the bus stops are a few minute walk.         The SpaceOur house is within minutes of almost anything you want to do outdoors. Year round hiking, running and cycling trails, water skiing and wake boarding in the summer, kayaking tours and rentals a short drive away. Several restaraunts and pubs, some within walking distance and even a reliable transit system that can get you to either Victoria or Duncan in under an hour. Guest AccessWe have 2 available bedrooms, a weight room, bathroom and you are more than welcome to share our kitchen/dining room with us. We also have an RV that could be used as a backup or somewhere for the kids to "camp". There is a fire pit out front and a beautiful patio to enjoy the afternoon sun. Interaction with GuestsWe live in our house full time and love having guests over. With some notice, we can organize activities for you ranging from water skiing/wakeboarding behind our ski boat, guided kayaking tours and instruction located at Mill Bay or a hike out to the famous, historic Kinsol Trestle. There are miles of forested trails right outside the door if you think you can keep up with Kevin, an accomplished marathon runner who would love to show off our many sights in the area. The NeighborhoodOur neighbourhood is in a quiet, rural setting surrounded by large coniferous trees in a well established area. It is likely that you will see deer, racoons, peacocks and many other species of wildlife just going for a walk in the evening. It is safe and secure and in twenty years we have never experienced any big city problems. Getting AroundThere is public transit to either Victoria and Duncan and north. There is also a local taxi service. From the ferry or airport it does take a little planning to get to The Searles but it is definitely doable (and worth it!) Other Things to NoteWe are a pet friendly family with a dog (Lucy) a cat (Martini) and 5 chickens(fresh eggs!). Clean, well behaved pets are welcome.

        The SpaceOur Healing Sanctuary is a beautiful earthen and straw bale building on Vancouver Island, BC. Built from a combination of natural building methodologies, it is a Canadian showcase for innovation and engineering. Guests will stay in one of two bedrooms both with a double bed (and available cot for children). You may also build a package for the whole building and learning activities--contact us for details! The indoor washroom features a beautiful shower hand-finished with a Moroccan technique named tadelakt. There is a small tea kitchen (sink, bar fridge, kettle) where guests can prepare snacks and drinks. There is a large shared living room area which can be used for rest and relaxation. Wireless internet is available on much of the site, though not in this building. Guest AccessPlease note that our reception desk closes at 6PM and we will not be able to process you check-in after that time. Guests will be welcome to join in with many aspects of OUR Ecovillage community life, including communal meals. If they wish, opportunities to join in with the daily permaculture farming activities of the Village, or learning events at our Education Centre, may be available on prior arrangement. Visitors are always welcome to take a self-guided tour (with provided map/information) of the 25-acre site in order to learn about the many natural buildings, acres of food production, and other innovative work done on the land. There are a few private residences onsite which are off-limits to guests. We strive to eat as much food from our land as possible, and what we buy is as local, organic, and GMO-free as possible. The NeighborhoodLocated just 45 minutes north of Victoria, and 30 minutes south of Duncan, Shawnigan Lake is a lovely lakeside community offering year-round entertainment. The area features the incredible and recently restored Kinsol Trestle (the world's tallest wooden trestle bridge), many wineries, high end dining, lake-based activities, hiking, and more. The entire Cowichan Region, of which we are a part, is a breadbasket for the Island and features many amazing wineries and farm-to-table restaurants. Very nearby are opportunities to enjoy farm-produced breads, meats, cheeses, and more. Shawnigan Lake offers a small grocery store, coffee shop and cafe, restaurant, community centre, and other amenities, while nearby Mill Bay is directly located on Hwy 1 and has gas stations, a large grocery store, and chain restaurants. It is very close to the Mill Bay-Brentwood Bay Ferry link which takes passengers to the Saanich Peninsula. If guests wish to share their particular interests and travel wishes, we are happy to help suggest and organize local excursions to suit. Getting AroundThere is limited public transportation in the region, but visitors will find it easiest to get around with their own transportation (car, bike, etc).         The SpaceThe moment you turn down our quiet cul-de-sac, you'll feel as if you’ve escaped to a woodland retreat...but all the amenities you need are just a walk away. The beach-themed main Guest Room comfortably sleeps two, with a luxury pillow-top queen bed. Slip into one of the fluffy bathrobes provided to cross the hall into your own private four piece bath, including a deep soaker tub. Clean and plush linens and towels are provided. Outdoors you'll find a covered deck overlooking a small clearing surrounded by cedars and firs. If you follow the path down past the cozy firepit, you'll find little trails to wander along amongst the trees. Following the old train bridge will lead you on a 3 minute stroll to the beach ____________________________________________________________________________ Guest AccessThe listed price includes a one night stay for one or two in the upstairs Guest Room and private bath, with access to the common areas in the home. The kitchen includes a fully stocked coffee and tea bar for your sipping pleasure. Access to the kitchen appliances is provided, along with all the staples, such as cookware and dining necessities, as well as spices and condiments. Feel free to help yourself to fresh herbs from the gardens and we often have extra home-grown fruit and veggies for you to snack on or incorporate into your meals, depending on the season. In the livingroom you'll find a cozy woodstove, a fooseball table, a boardgames cabinet, a media area with a large flat screen TV with a large selection of DVDs...and an original Nintendo system with plenty of games! The Art Studio, located upstairs, has a gorgeous view and and cozy sitting area. It's fully stocked with art tools and supplies and is the perfect place for an artist to find some creative inspiration. The Sunroom, with a gorgeously green view of the backyard, has an infrared sauna, daybed, and tea table and skylights, making it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. Guest are encouraged to stroll about the property and enjoy the forest paths, or to take advantage of the comfy covered back deck with sitting area. An outdoor fire pit is strategically placed to get a full view of the stars. With notice, seating and firewood can be provided. ____________________________________________________________________________ Interaction with GuestsWe are a social and friendly couple in our early 30's who love to entertain, but also understand the importance of privacy. We will be in the home throughout the majority of your visit to provide you with anything you might need. We have our own master suite, including a private bath and sitting area, but we'll share the common areas with you. We are more than happy to make your acquaintance and entertain you as much as you'd like to be entertained. However, if you're looking for privacy during a romantic getaway or solo retreat, please let us know and we will make ourselves as scarce as possible. We have some great tips for sightseeing and hiking in the area and would be delighted to share them with you. We stroll around the local trails almost daily and would love to show you around. If you see us enjoying tea in the sunroom or drinks around the fire in the evenings you are most welcome to join us. Also, cooking happens to be a passion of ours! If you would like to partake in a shared meal, please let us know. We are both excellent cooks and will gladly discuss menu and splitting costs with you should our schedule allow it during your stay. Our family includes a quiet and polite medium-sized senior dog, an exuberant but obedient young pup, a quiet, well trained small puppy and two outdoor-only kitties, who may or may not make an appearance on the back deck, depending on their moods. ____________________________________________________________________________ The NeighborhoodThe property is secluded and private, yet close to all amenities. The acreage backs onto a train-track walking trail that will take you to sandy Mason's Beach, a pub, a liquor store and a convenience store in less than 4 minutes. Another short stroll will bring you to Shawnigan Village, where you'll find a barber shop, a small spa, a quaint bakery, a coffee shop and several restaurants, ranging from fine dining to Subway. Another small jaunt along the trail will bring you to the Government Wharf where you can enjoy a swim at the beach or arrange for a kayak or wakeboard lesson. Countless other restaurants, a grocery store, several provincial parks and beaches, and many wineries can be accessed by a bike or car in less than 15 minutes. The home is just over 35 minutes from the city of Victoria and is a great place to overnight on your way up island to Tofino or beyond. It's also a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing weekend. ____________________________________________________________________________ Getting AroundWalking and cycling are a great way of exploring the surrounding area. The town provides reliable but infrequent local bus service as well. Taxi service does exist, but this is a small town and long waits aren't unheard of, so we suggest calling ahead to book. Greyound and IslandLink provide service to the Northern and Southern parts of the island. Please note that service from Victoria and heading up island is fairly limited and pre-booking is necessary. We're happy to help with trip planning if requested. Shawnigan Lake is a very short trip to the Mill Bay ferry, and less than an hour drive to both the Departure Bay and Swartz Bay ferry terminals.         The SpaceSituated in the heart of "Wine Country" on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada our one bedroom custom built log cabin is nestled in the perfect place to kick back and relax after a day of exploring the Cowichan Valley. Guests will revel in the serene ambience of the cabin done entirely in douglas fir and rustic red cedar. Situated on a hill surrounded by lush green forests, the cabin is only 5 minutes walk from the beach. This 450 sq ft cabin features a separate bedroom that has a large king size bed that looks out through French glass doors into the forest. A gorgeous contemporary living room furnished with a large comfy couch, a wood burning stove and a small kitchenette to prepare meals should you wish to dine in. The bathroom is the showpiece of the cabin with slate tiles, a large clawfoot tub, rain shower and stunning aromatic cedar walls. Cabin on Paradise is a destination in itself for those wishing to “get away from it all.” Relax by a roaring fire while sipping a glass of local wine. Sit on the deck and watch the bald eagles fly overhead. Go for a walk on the park trails that start from the cabin’s front door or read a book while you revel in the silence that envelopes you. We do allow some pets but there is an extra charge of 15.00 CAD per night to a maximum of 50.00 CAD per stay. Please let us know what kind of pet you have when you inquire about booking.
