The SpaceThis house is from 1890 . Tons of charm and a gorgeous deck. Lovely to sit out and have an afternoon cocktail and look onto Dering Harbor. There are three bedrooms, each with queen beds. There is also a good size landing with a bunk bed and trundle, as well as a full size crib. The house will sleep 6 adults comfortably as well as children. We also have a double stroller, high chair, kids table and stools, toys, games, etc... No car needed as you can walk to and from the north ferry as well as shops, restaurants, cafe's, private beach club, tennis courts, pilates and yoga classes. Greenport has a few great restaurants, shops, and a movie theater. It's easy to hop on the ferry and explore Greenport for an afternoon or an evening. Getting Aroundbicycle is the best way. You can rent bicycles down just the street at Piccozzi's or in greenport- Dan's bicycles, he will deliver to the house.

The SpaceShelter Island Heights is a special place. Accessible without a car from the City. You can take the train or Hampton Jitney to Greenport (on the North Fork), walk 80 yards to the North Ferry and take the North Ferry to Shelter Island Heights where you have a 4 minute walk to the cottage. Central Air Conditioning & heat throughout. 4 bedrooms; one on the main floor with a 1/2 bath and 3 upstairs with a full bath. Beautiful outdoor shower. The Master Bedroom has a screened in porch with a couch & table for overlooking the harbor. An easily walk to restaurants and a gourmet food store. Guest AccessWithin walking distance of 3 restaurants, a gourmet food store, hardware store, fishing store, bike rental, liquor store. Truly a place where you can escape the City without a car and be able to walk everywhere. Drive around the Island to see all of the different facets of it! Other Things to NoteThe Chequit Hotel is 100 yards away and has just been redone. Great food at Chequit's Red Maple Restaurant and a super coffee shop around the back of the Hotel. Stars Cafe, just past the Chequit, is a great place for breakfast or lunch. The Shelter Island Drug Store (next to the Chequit Hotel) has an old fashion Soda Fountain for breakfast or lunch. Marie Eifel Market (just down the hill across from the liquor store and gas station) is a gourmet market to shop of buy prepared foods (also tables to eat a great breakfast & lunch). South Ferry (from Sag Harbor/North Haven, NY). Most folks bring a car, some arrive via train with their bikes (the train to Greenport, NY) directly from NYC. Other Things to Notewe have contemporary design yet comfortable setting. new bathrooms, spacious. we also have a Weimaraner puppy, Evie, who is very social and would love for you to join her on her beach walks. There are some very nice restaurants on the island: Vine Street Cafe; Salt; Sweet Tomatoes; Commander Cody's; Sunset Beach Hotel and Restaurant in the summer time (they have great late night dancing DJ too) right on the beach.

Large fenced yard + garden with mature plantings of cherry trees, hydrangeas, roses, and peonies. Walk to all…the Chequit Inn, Stars Café, the Pharmacy and Luncheonette, beach, tennis, North Ferry to Greenport and the Hampton Jitney to Manhattan, and EIffel's Gourmet Market are steps away – no car needed. One could hop on the Manhattan Hampton Jitney and be at the house in under two hours. 3000 square feet of comfortable living space, A/C in bedrooms, Cable TV, WIFI, Weber gas bbq grill, washing machine, dryer…groceries delivered Sat mornings from (URL HIDDEN) or The Shelter island IGA – no need for a car. *****Bring sheets (2 queen sized sheet sets, 3 twin sized sheet sets, and 1 full), and towels/beach towels. Heart set on a car beach sticker? Bring a copy of your rental agreement and your license plate number to Town Hall in the center of town on Rt 114, and Ask the Town Clerk for a weekly beach sticker. Getting AroundEasily walk (we are very close to town and the North Ferry), rent bikes (Piccozzi's Bike Rental), or bring your own vehicle. Easily travel on the Manhattan Hampton Jitney to Greenport, walk on the SI ferry, and then walk up the hill to our home (5 minutes). Other Things to NoteWell behaved pets might be ok - let's discuss first, please. We don't allow sand in the house - please rinse off in our outdoor shower after a day at the beach. After breakfast, sit and enjoy the views or take the Kayaks out to explore the bay and beyond. Then there's the outdoor shower, the bikes, swimming off the dock, clamming and so it goes on until it's time for a picnic or an outdoor BBQ with your friends who've just sailed over from Sag Harbor and moored off your dock. And of course, if you can tear yourself away from this little piece of heaven there's the whole of Shelter Island and beyond to explore before coming back to evening cocktails on the porch, more views and dinner around the farmhouse table.

The NeighborhoodWe love being able to walk to the ferry and Greenport, and the 5 minute walk to Marie Eiffel Market, where you can buy prepared gourmet meals, fresh produce, cheese, espresso, and great pizza. Several restaurants and hardware stores in town are also within a 5 minute walk. You can play a quick round of 9 holes at the public course (5 minute drive) or set up croquet on the front lawn. Or just nap in the hammock under the trees and fall into the relaxed rhythm of island life. Beautiful beaches are a short bike ride away. Getting AroundLIRR and the Hampton Jitney bring you from NYC to Greenport, NY. From Greenport the Shelter Island North Ferry drops you off in the Heights. You can walk to the house or call the "Shelter Island Gopher" (taxi service) to come pick you up. You can get pretty much anywhere on the island by bike.

By bus, take Hampton Jitney Northfork from numerous stops in NYC to Greenport which leaves you 100 feet from Shelter Island Ferry. Two plus hours depending on traffic. If on foot, buy tokens at Ferry terminal (bring single dollar bills). If in a car, ferry cost is $11 one way and $2 for every additional passenger. Same day round trip ferry fees are discounted 10%. If you are not renting an entire house on the island, you must have a parking permit or risk a ticket if you're parked by any of the town beaches. There are wonderful restaurant choices on Shelter Island, including one right next door to us. Greenport is a lovely little town to explore just over the North Ferry, as well as Sag Harbor over the South Ferry in the Hamptons. There's lots to do and see once the travelers are settled in. Getting AroundIf arriving by train or bus to Greenport, the Shelter Island North Ferry access is adjacent to the drop off area. We offer taxi service, pre-arranged, at $10 per ride, including ferry pickup and dropoff. Complimentary bicycles are available for the convenience of getting around the island if guests do not have a car. Other Things to Note***Please be aware that we are REQUIRED BY LAW, as are all B&B's, to collect sales and occupancy taxes, which Airbnb does not collect for NY State hosts at this time; however, they are working on it. Upon your arrival, we will be collecting as follows: NYS Sales Tax @ 8.625%, plus Suffolk County 3% occupancy tax. *** On a more "pleasant" note ..... :-) For your enjoyment on the island, there is kayaking, hiking, swimming, fabulous restaurants of all types, including quite local fare, library events, Historical Society events, and gorgeous sunsets!! Shelter Islanders are wonderfully interesting people, and quite enjoy sharing their stories. Then, when you think you've explored all you can about Shelter Island, the Hamptons on the South Fork are just a ferry ride away from us, which include Sag Harbor, Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton, & Montauk. We are also just a ferry ride away from the North Fork, with its numerous vineyards for wine tasting and entertainment, farms galore for local produce, and quaint villages such as Greenport, Southold, Mattituck, East Marion, and Orient Point.
