Sorry, no AirBnB guest availability during the snowy months (approx Dec 15-April 5). This is because the private access road is not cleared to drive after snowfall. Anything more than 4 inches of snow reduces the chances of access. Sierra Solitude cannot do AirBnB Instant bookings with impending snow weather. We remove availability during these months. The SpaceThe Clear Air Mountain House, a radically fragrance-free retreat is a 3000 square-foot house, built with a very open floor plan (but each sleeping suite has a door); there are 2 large living+sleeping spaces, or great-rooms, a caretaker's suite (where we stay for one-time or first-time rentals), and a large sunroom (with heated swim-spa, which includes an endless current and massage jets). There's also a kitchen, dining area, multiple entry rooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 porches, a garage, a yard and a garden (which features some lovely landscaped gathering / relaxation areas). The larger great-rooms are called the River Suite and the Rainbow Suite. The third floor master bedroom is called the Cloud Suite (1st time guests can only rent the house when we're on-site in the Cloud Suite). Outside the bedroom of the Cloud Suite (at the top of the spiral stairs) is a reading nook (with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a knotty-pine door separating the nook from the Cloud Room). We started Clear Air Mountain House because most vacation lodging cannot accommodate our chemical sensitivities. There are thousands of vacation lodgings that allow fragrances, but very few places that are safer for those that are chemically sensitive. Rates: Nightly: The non-holiday nightly rate is 195 (plus 10% lodging tax) for one suite, 295 for two, plus $25 for each additional person after 4 (for one suite) or 6 (for two), up to a maximum of 16. A lower rate may be available for weekly rentals, longer winter/spring stays, midweek stays, nonprofit/educational retreats, and considerate repeat visitors (ask us for details). Cleaning fee is $150 flat rate, or $35-45 per person (whichever is less) or you can do your own move-out cleaning. Guest AccessRenters have full access to the kitchen, main bath, main porch, yard and garden with hammocks, laundry, and garage, in addition to their suite(s). The swim-spa-use has many additional rules (which we're happy to share), and for those happy to follow the swim-spa rules, guests may have access to the sunroom with swim spa (age 18 and up only in the spa). Interaction with Guests***FOR FIRST TIME RENTERS, OWNERS WILL BE ONSITE AT CLEAR AIR MOUNTAIN HOUSE. The revised rates (195 one suite, 295 both) reflect this. Please contact us about renting the rest of the house, though, or just one of the suites.*** Renting the whole house (475/night) is only available to repeat visitors after a stay where we have been on-site. During your first rental, one or both owners will be onsite, staying in the 3rd floor Cloud Suite (happy to give you all the skinny on fun stuff in the area while you're here, plus help show you all the features of the house!). When sharing the house, quiet hours of 11:30pm to 8:30am apply. The NeighborhoodFrom the Sierra City web site: Sierra City is an ideal base for lovers of the outdoors. It is only minutes away from the Sierra Buttes and the Lakes Basin. Here you'll find wonderful year-around recreation: fishing, hiking, boating, rafting, mountain biking, skiing, kayaking, snowmobiling, bird watching, and there's lots of wildlife to see! More than 45 picturesque lakes are in the Lakes Basin within a half-hour drive from Sierra City. The lakes -- large rock bowls -- were created by glaciers; they fill with melting snow and are kept fresh by natural springs. The lakes host a range of fine trout: Eastern Brook, Mountain Brook, German and Rainbow. Hikers have immediate access to the magnificent Pacific Crest Trail as well as many other challenging trails and climbs. All trails are well-marked and maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. Local businesses have maps and supplies. The North Yuba River offers wily challenges to the experienced fly fishing enthusiast. And its 18 miles of Class 5 (experts only) whitewater beckon the experienced kayaker in the spring. Abundant winter snowfall turns nearby mountain roads into adventurous snowmobile trails (we, being allergic to snowmobile exhaust, choose the snowmobile-free ski and snowshoe trails). And cross-country skiers can break tracks through the high-country meadows. Getting AroundThis is a mountainous area in a mountain town, and there is no public transit (though we do sometimes run folks up from the Bay Area). A 4WD vehicle may be recommended during cold snaps in winter (though we're at a lower elevation than Tahoe). Parking for 2-4 cars is easy in the house's driveway; for more cars please let us know in advance. Other Things to NoteMore about the house layout: First Floor / River Suite: The first floor is composed of a chlorine-free swim spa in a sunroom, and a big 422-square-foot great room we call the River Suite. The River Suite sleeps 4 comfortably and 8-9 (if you know each other well?) with the use of a hideaway bed/futons/air mattresses. The River Suite features renewable solid strand-woven blond bamboo floors; a wood-burning stove that heats the house in cool weather; a twin bed in a curtained nook; a 7-piece natural leather-and-hardwood sectional sofa with recliners and sofabed (plus optional latex topper), plus a futon chair that folds out into a small 31x72 bed, as well as a double futon (with optional topper). Portable beds that can be used in either the River Suite or the Rainbow Suite include: a Certipur memory-foam-and-latex comfort tri-fold (with optional memory foam topper), a small hideaway bed, and portable airbeds are available as well (two double, one twin). These can be moved from room to room to accommodate additional guests. Second Floor / Rainbow Suite: The second floor has the kitchen, dining room (with a propane gas fireplace/heating stove), the main bathroom, the laundry room, and a large great-room we call the Rainbow Suite, which sleeps 8-10. The ~480 square-foot Rainbow Suite has 2 European Sleepworks Alpine HDM beds (one full and one queen), 2 all-natural latex Invigo twin beds (set up as a daybed with trundle), and a queen sofa sleeper with optional natural latex topper and/or featherbed. Additional (portable) beds (see further above) can be set up either in the Rainbow Suite or River Suite). The floors in the Rainbow suite are milled from trees thinned on the property for fire safety. The previous owner's husband milled the boards himself, and laid the floor as well. Organic cotton sheets are provided in the Rainbow Suite. Third Floor / Cloud Suite: The top floor is called the Cloud Suite, and has a private bath with claw foot tub, its own porch and parking spot with an outdoor shower, a European Sleepworks Nordic HDM king bed; it's intended to sleep 2 adults, but a third person could use an air mattress. Outside the bedroom of the Cloud Suite (at the top of the spiral stairs) is a reading nook (with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a knotty-pine door separating the nook from the Cloud Room). The floors in the Cloud suite are milled from trees thinned on the property for fire safety. The previous owner's husband milled the boards himself, and laid the floor as well. The Cloud Suite bedroom is usually occupied by caretakers and not available for rental (though exceptions may be made for super-considerate repeat visitors -- in those cases the rental rate for the house without caretaker would be 475/night for the first 8 guests). We also have two hammocks which can be used to relax outdoors or in the sunroom. The Clear Air Mountain House features some of these cool things: Kitchen cooking appliances by Miele Kitchen countertops made of Caesarstone Quartz Kitchen Cabinets by Scavolini Strandwoven Bamboo Floors by EcoFUSION Natural Latex beds by Invigo Natural Mattress Systems by European Sleepworks Solid ash bedframes by Bedworks of Maine Natural-Latex Sleep Wedge by European Sleepworks may be available upon request. Oxygen Pillows by European Sleepworks (available on some of the beds)

The SpaceIt's all about location! This charming house is just a couple blocks from downtown in the small Gold Rush village of Sierra City. The house is cozy and private. But its greatest attraction is the peaceful sound of a small brook flowing past the deck. Fits 3-8 comfortably. This house has three bedrooms, each with queen bed. One large bedroom also has a trundle bed that pulls out into two twin beds. This two-story house has one full bath and one half bath, one on each level. Guest AccessGuests have access to the house, three bedrooms and 1.5 baths, laundry, deck and back patio. Interaction with GuestsIf I am able to, I greet the guests or send a housekeeper. Otherwise, I will provide access to a key. The NeighborhoodThis is a charming small town atmosphere, with stunning mountain vistas, great hiking to the river or Sierra Buttes mountain, amazing mountain biking or road riding, summertime fishing, cross-country skiing, swimming in mostly chilly waters, visiting the great but limited number of town establishments. There are two bars in town, a small grocery store run by great people, a couple restaurants when they are open and a couple other places like mining shop and art gallery. Getting AroundNo public transit. Other Things to NoteYou've come to the right place for hiking! If you want some recommendations, let me know and I will send you a list. DIRECTIONS: Directions from San Francisco Bay Area: (Takes about four hours from San Francisco to Sierra City) Take Interstate 80 east (through Davis, Sacramento, Roseville) to Auburn. Take Highway 49 towards Grass Valley/Nevada City (turns into Highways 49/20 at Grass Valley. Continue on through Nevada City.) Take Highway 49 exit when it splits from Highway 20 after downtown Nevada City exit. Take Highway 49 through Downieville to Sierra City. In Sierra City after grocery store, take a left up the hill on Butte Street. Go about three blocks. Look for white house with creek running below the deck on the left. The long driveway is on the left. There are other ways you can go to Sierra City. For example, you can drive to Truckee and then take Highway 89 north to Highway 49. That may take about 30 minutes longer. The fastest route might be this one: Take Highway 80 to Sacramento. Two miles past IKEA take the exit towards Marysville. Take Highway 99/70 to Marysville and then Highway 20 towards Nevada City. Instead of driving all the way to Nevada City, take a left on Marysville Road about 5 minutes outside of Marysville. You will need a map for this drive, which has a few turns and takes you past Bullards Bar Reservoir on the way to Highway 49. This avoids a few more miles of curvy roads and seems to be the fastest route.

You are welcome to use the gas barbecue on the back deck facing the river and the washer and dryer in the hall bath. Connect your phones and laptops to our WiFi network for fast internet connectivity. Note: For holidays or weekends from June to October we have a 3 night minimum (unless there are only 2 nights available in the calendar) In cases where we have another guest checking in or out on the same day, I need to check our housekeeper's schedule before confirming your reservation request. If our housekeeper's schedule requires a later check-in time or earlier checkout time, I will check with you before confirming your booking. Sorry for this inconvenience. On the positive side, we often have flexible checkin/checkout times if our housekeeper's schedule allows it. The cabin, including its decor, is from the 60s. Most of our guests appreciate the "vintage" look. Just note it's not a modern home. We don't have a dishwasher or a garbage disposal. Please LIKE us on Facebook where you will find more pictures and videos. Search RiverFrontMountainCabin on Facebook. Note: It's most convenient if you pay with a credit card on the VRBO/Homeaway website. VRBO/Homeaway has just started charging guests a "Service Fee" when you pay on the VRBO/Homeaway website. If you prefer other payment options (Paypal, Credit Card via Square, check) we can accommodate this but in those cases we ask that you make your entire payment when you book, not in two payments. Just let me know.

Amazing ambiance! This charming house is just a couple blocks from downtown in the small Gold Rush village of Sierra City. The house is cozy and private. But its greatest attraction is the peaceful sound of a small brook cascading past the deck and water trickling down the rock patio wall. This house has three bedrooms, each with queen bed. One large bedroom also has a trundle bed that pulls out into two twin beds. This two-story house has one full bath and one half bath, one on each level. Hardwood deck looks out over a small year-round stream that provides great sounds! Requires a 3-day minimum rental, some holidays require 4-day minimum. Off-season and in between other rentals can request a 2-day minimum.
