In June of 2013 my wife and I bought a small cottage in our favorite place, Door County, WI. Door County has always held a special place in our hearts and we hope that our guests enjoy their time up there as much as we do. The cottage is located just outside of downtown Sister Bay in very close proximity to public beaches and popular restaurants such as Al Johnsons and Sister Bay Bowl. The cottage is a great base for exploring some of Door County's best attractions such as Peninsula and Newport State Parks, the quaint villages of Sister Bay, Ephraim and Fish Creek, several wineries and orchards, numerous golf courses, lighthouses, etc. There is no shortage of sights and activities in Door County and we would love to offer suggestions if you are looking for things to do on your Door County Vacation. Door County is a fantastic vacation destination for families, couples, or groups of friends as there are things to see and do for those of all ages. The cottage has 3 bedrooms: 1. Master bedroom with a queen bed 2. Guest bedroom with a queen bed 3. Guest bedroom with a bunk bed and twin bed (three twin beds total) There are two full bathrooms including the master bathroom. The cottage has a full kitchen with utensils and fully stocked with pots pans and whatever else you will need to cook (including coffee maker, toaster, blender, quesadilla maker, etc.) There is Wi-Fi internet, flat screen TV with Roku which includes Amazon Prime, Netflix and Hulu (no cable), blu-ray player, and phone (local and emergency calls only) Guests will need to provide their own towels and bed linens. There is not a washer and dryer on the property but there is a public laundry facility one minute up the road. There are also Piggly Wiggly and ShopKo grocery stores within a mile of the cottage for groceries and other items. There is a large deck on the back of the house as well as a fire pit in the backyard to enjoy when the weather is nice. The driveway is large enough to fit several cars, a boat, camper, etc. The cottage is also tied into the village's public water and septic system which means that you will not have well water for your drinking and bathing needs. This is unique to Sister Bay as most of the northern Door County homes outside of Sister Bay rely on private wells for their water. Initial reservation deposit is 50% of the total rental fee which is due upon reservation. The remainder of the payment including cleaning fee and damage deposit is due 30 days prior to check-in. $300 damage deposit returned pending the results of a home inspection after the guest departure. The 11% tax covers the mandatory state sales tax as well as the Door County Tourism room tax. Cleaning fee is $75. 3 miles to downtown of Ephraim, WI 7.8 miles to downtown Fish Creek, WI 4 blocks to Fred and Fuzzy’s Waterfront Bar and Grill 5 blocks to Sister Bay Bowl 6 blocks to Al Johnsons Restaurant (goats on the roof) 3 blocks to Bay Ridge Golf Course 3.2 miles to Peninsula State Park Golf Course 11 miles to Maxwelton Braes Golf Course 14 miles to Stonehenge Golf Course 14 miles to Alpine Resort Golf Course 15 miles to The Orchards Golf Course 18 miles to Horseshoe Bay Golf Club 3.2 miles to Peninsula State Park 11 miles to Newport State Park 3 blocks to Pirates Cove Miniature Golf 3 blocks to Johnsons Park Go-Karts 5 miles to Skyway Drive-In Movie Theatre 6.5 Miles to Ellison Bay Cider House 8.5 miles to Orchard Country Winery 11 miles to Stones Throw Winery 22 miles to Simon Creek Winery 21 miles to Door Peninsula Winery 1 mile to Sister Bay Beach 3 miles to Ephraim Beach 6 miles to Nicolet Beach (Peninsula State Park) 8 miles to Eagle Harbor Light House (Peninsula State Park) 11 miles to Cana Island Light House 11 miles to Peninsula Players outdoor theatre 4 miles to Seaquist Orchards (Apple, Cherry picking) 26 miles to The Farm (families can feed a variety of farm animals including baby goats and piglets)

Please read our other listing under Treetops Delight in Northern Door. It is the same house, but this listing is for the second, smaller bedroom on the street-side of the house, thus the price break. Freshly redone from the queen mattress and boxsprings to the window valances, tastefully and colorfully redecorated. Bathroom shared when "blue room" is reserved as well. There is also a powder room on the first floor that may be freely accessed. A cute library/loft/coffee area is between the two bedrooms, which are both in the upper level of our Sister Bay home. I'm a retired teacher, and hubby retired from boating industry. We enjoy the beautiful naturalness of this area. Love boating, cooking, the arts, gardening, reading, family life and socializing with friends and neighbors, just being outdoors as much as possible. We dine outside whenever we get the chance. Enjoying a quiet evening by the fire is a favorite activity of ours. We are casual walkers and love to learn about the world through travel. Lovely area across the street from the adventurous waters of Green Bay, densely treed gentle streets for biking, Segway touring and walking among local fruit orchards, gorgeous scenery. Close to all sorts of sporting activities, including the famed Peninsula State Park, with incredible golf, live theater in the park, as well as excellent hiking and biking for all levels of difficulty. The village of Sister Bay and surrounding bergs grace the lovely shores of Lake Michigan and Green Bay, inviting all to visit the local creameries, coffee, cider and brew houses, boutiques, endless restaurants of all sorts, art galleries, beaches galore, live music and theater venues, etc. All types of water sport activity available for rental, from kayak to off-shore fishing, a ferry to Washington and Rock Islands, dinner cruise, you name it, it's nearby! You can't be bored In Door County!

With more than 300 miles of spectacular shoreline and five majestic state parks, Door County is a four-season, outdoor recreation and pleasure lover's dream come true. If you enjoy history, discovery and fun, Door County is home to 11 lighthouses, unique communities, performing arts, entertainment, music, boutiques, galleries and mouth-watering cuisine — from gourmet to casual, formal to waterfront easy. Your stay will always be wonderful (and too short!). Door County truly is like nowhere else. One thing that never gets old in Door County are the festivals. There are holiday festivals, food festivals, blossom festivals, welcoming of the season festivals, end of the season festivals – you name it – there’s a festival. January first, noon sharp, starts the first major Door County event of the year – the Jacksonport Polar Bear plunge. It all started when a couple of brothers decided the weather was just a little too warm and they needed to do some cooling off. Now, 25 years later nearly 1000 people turn out to jump in the frigid waters of Lake Michigan. You’d think a dive into icy waters would be enough chill to keep you indoors for the rest of the season, but then in February the Fish Creek Winter Festival takes the lead. Hundreds of people come out of the wood work to compete in ridiculous games like minnow races, toilet seat toss and ice volleyball. Throughout the spring there are blossom festivals with Scottie Dog parades, music festivals with classical chamber music and, believe it or not, there is even a side pork festival the first week of June which, ironically enough, involves a 5k run. Summer kicks off with the Steel Bridge Festival highlighting over 100 bands and soloists on 10 stages. If that doesn’t appeal to you wait a week and there is a lighthouse festival, paddle festival and the welcoming of the summer solstice festival in Ephraim – Fyr Bal. My favorite time of year in Door County has got to be the Fourth of July. All the communities come together and the celebrations stretch from the bottom of the Peninsula all the way up to Washington Island. It doesn’t matter if it’s a weekday or weekend you are sure to get your fill of music, parades, fireworks and arts and crafts. Next : The Folk Festival, Plein Air Festival, Scandinavian Festival, Classic & Wooden boat show festival, Cherry Festival, Door County Festival of the Arts, West Fest, Tug Fest, Marina Fest, Corn Fest, Harvest Fest, Autumn Fest, Pumpkin Patch Festival, Fall Fun Fest and finally to cap off the season Fall Fest in Sister Bay. This isn’t even all of them!

The SpaceOur oldest daughter Grace researched, designed and built this cordwood tiny house as a sustainable design project to fulfill her 12 college credit independent study. We, her mom and dad, were invited to join in the fun and enjoyed every minute of three months it took to build. All the lumber for framing the house was locally milled by the Henschel"s awesome Sawmill in Egg Harbor. The eight inch cord wood sections were cut form 50 local 30' cedar tree trunks, all the sand, driftwood, rock and gravel came from the land, windows from the restore, and we salvaged aluminum roofing from a tear down in Ashland. Our local hardware stores supplied us with all the hardwares except for the steel brackets (designed by Grace's engineer dad Tim) those were manufactured by Hi-Tec in Sturgeon Bay. Grace and I were inspired to naturally design in the large scale weathered drift wood collage sculpture from meadow finds, found glass and collected soft smooth lake Michigan rock, it was a moment to moment unfolding tribute to the raw fun we had shaping it all into form ... it is a sweet elemental haven for simple people and basic living. The sleeping house is 10'x8' x 7' and has a smooth door county rock floor. All towels, bed linens, cookware, dishes, silverware are provided. The house has electricity for small electrics including lamps, a hot pot, fan and a heater ( if needed) that can be plugged in for your comfort. We also provide drinking water, a hose connected to the main water supply, an electric hotpot, french press, tea pot, cooking mitts, flashlight, matches and other essentials. There is no bathroom or kitchen in the tiny house, for that you need to come in to the main house which is 25 steps! The meadow is high and dry and and on a natural migration path for Sandhill cranes and geese. Warms winds move through all days in the summer and on Indian summer days in the fall. You will hear the coyotes at night, turkeys and Palliated wood peckers, morning doves often in the morning if your windows are open. We do have a bon fire ring on the front lawn and a gas grill for outdoor cooking. The sleeping house also has it own fireplace and a small wood stove. The property is five acres of meadow and woods so there is lots of room to wander around through the grass trails. We have a hammock in the pine woods and a wooden bench in the meadow which is great for sunsets. There is a small east facing deck off the kitchen with patio furniture where you are welcome to enjoy your morning coffee and breakfast. There are also white oak adirondack chair on the front lawn near the horse shoe pit. A well equipped medium sized kitchen in the main house is available for cooking with the a spacious kitchen table adjacent. We are seasoned airbnb'ers and very comfortable sharing our space. The first floor bathroom has a shower/towels with the laundry attached. The Sleeping House cordwood tiny cabin is about 25 paces form the main house which has two independent dwellings. If you are a family, couples, or friends we invite you to rent both and make the most of the property. The main house was built about 20 years ago by a local builder and arborist. It has all hardwood floors and knotty pine trim. There are three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. We are converting the orginal two car garage to another full living space with kitchen and bathroom. We also have a 30x50 pole barn where all our recreation equipment is store and an additional cabin we are renovating into a year round guest house. We are family oriented, love all seasons in door county but especial the summer and fall. We always have a project or three going. We try to swim Lake Michigan regularly, take morning walks on our favorite trail, kayak on those perfect days and now we will start canoeing too since we just brought our big aluminum canoe up from Madison. We have lots of friends who visit, enjoy cooking and sharing meals together and just relaxing. We relish the quiets sunsets in the meadow, and evening choir that comes alive at saloon time. In general we let our guests set the level of exchange, we also appreciate and respect privacy, solitude and quiet but love to celebrate too!! Guest AccessThe sleeping house is about 25 steps from the main house where you will find the downstairs bathroom, laundry room, kitchen and living room. Guests enjoy all the outdoor sitting areas in the meadow, and you welcome to store your small crafts in our pole barn. Interaction with GuestsWe are family oriented, love the summer in door county, tending to the land and gardens and always have a project or three going. We try to swim daily, hike the quiet trails, drink lots of lemonade we make fresh and stretch out in the big open grass areas. We have lots of extra blankets and towels around, beach chairs etc.. We have friends who visit, enjoy cooking and sharing meals together, making music and ... relish the quiets sunsets in the meadow, and evening choir that comes alive at saloon time. We look forward to sharing all these things with our guests if they are interested but we also appreciate and respect privacy, solitude and quiet. Other Things to NoteWe have a border collie name Blue who is very friendly and love to play. His favorite activity is swimming in Lake Michigan which he gets to do almost every day. We just bought him a life vest so he can swim across Europe lake with us and back . He is not a barker unless he is startled. He does love to chase the seagulls and hawks and turkey vultures that fly over head. Needless to say he never catches them.

The five acres of meadow are free to roam. We are family oriented, love the summer in door county, tending to the land and gardens and always have a project or three going. We try to swim daily in Lake Michigan, hike the quiet trails and relax in the big open grass areas. This road bisects the northern peninsula between Sister Bay and Ellison Bay and takes you to the intersection of Hill Road and Old Stage where you take a right to get to our property. Your can also take a right on HWY ZZ and take that around to Hill road where you take a left and we are the second driveway. Other Things to NoteGuests are responsible for removing their own trash and recyclables during and at the end of their stay. There are three large green bins in front of the pole barn. One for trash, one for paper and cardboard and one for plastic, metal and glass. There are bins for each of these in the Meadow Sweet. We also have a composting bucket under the sink if you care to compost we can show you where it is. Bikes, skis, boats, snow mobiles more than likely can be stored in the pole barn.
