The SpacePlease read all information. Update: We've recently increased our rates for the winter months due to high energy bills last year. We may drop them if we can figure out some ways to drop those bill amounts. Important notes: Please no dogs (we have two of our own and we can't guarantee they'll get along with yours), no children (we're worryworts and the stairs are steep; we'd hate to have kid falling down them), and no smoking (it stinks up our cabin and is a forest fire hazard). No breakfast provided (none of our family have retired). Finally, no internet. We are still waiting for affordable internet to reach us. Sorry. There is good cell phone coverage, however. Seymour Lake is a tranquil getaway at the base of Smither's iconic Hudson Bay Mountain - home of our renowned downhill ski area. Our property is on the far side of the lake where the least development has occurred, allowing us (and you) to take full advantage of the calm beautiful natural surroundings. It is a ten minute drive from Smithers and half-an-hour commute from the local downhill ski area. Our guesthouse, while near our family's home, has its own private drive and will ensure that you too, can enjoy the lake and the surrounding area. It's a 600 square foot space with modern wood furnishings and kitchen complete with pots, pans and eating/drinking utensils. There are large windows allowing a lots of natural light, particularly in the evening. There is king sized bed and a hideaway couch that contains a double bed. The guesthouse style is an open loft and there are therefore not distinct bedrooms. The guesthouse is surrounded by a large forested property with many trails to walk should you feel adventurous. There is also a small gravel beach the guesthouse shares with the main house complete with a small dry sauna and a canoe. During the winter months there is (usually) a community skating oval ploughed by our neighbours on the lake. Bring your skates but be sure to ask about the ice conditions before heading out. Bear in mind that you participate in all these activities at your own risk. If you're less adventurous we have a small library of books and a selection of board games that you can use during your stay. Guest AccessGuests have access to the full guesthouse and all its amenities, which include: bathroom, washer, dryer, fridge, freezer and kitchen with pots, pans and dinnerware. While the guesthouse is near our family home, it is obscured by trees and a large barn ensuring privacy, with a separate trail down to a small gravel beach which the guesthouse shares with our main home. Guests are free to use our sauna. While guests are free to wander the extensive backcountry trails on our property, we please ask that they avoid the immediate space around our home and office cabin. We are often busy and, sadly, do not have time to incorporate guests into our day-to-day lives. Furthermore, we ask that you stay out of the several other structures on our property, such as the various sheds and barns. Interaction with GuestsWe are willing to help you settle in and familiarize yourself with the area. Our family keeps quite busy, so we won't be able to show you around the Bulkley Valley, but if you're looking for suggestions for places to eat, hike, swim or whatever else, we will be more than willing to share our extensive knowledge. The NeighborhoodOur neighbours are the moose, the bears and the birds. Staying at this guesthouse will get you right out into nature and you are welcome to travel through our neighbouring forest through the trails we've cut through over 200 acre property. A map of the property will be provided for your stay so you can go explore it yourself. Getting AroundOur guesthouse has a private drive that has its own two car parking space and you can easily come and go from the property as you please. We are a twenty minute bike ride and ten minute drive from main street Smithers. We are also only a thirty minute drive from the Hudson Bay downhill ski area and an even shorter drive from the Pine Creek cross country ski trails. Other Things to NoteWe have two cats, two dogs and two horses on our property. They are incredibly friendly, although the dogs *will* bark every time you come up the driveway. Our young Border Collie/Australian Shepard will also probably hang around the guesthouse hoping you'll throw a tennis ball for him. Be warned: if you do, he will never leave! If you are okay with this, throw away. We are also in the middle of renovating the lawn around the guesthouse. We are planning on reseeding it soon but until it then, it remains a dirt patch. The stairs to the loft where the bed is quite steep. It is not suited for people with mobility concerns. Our driveway is one kilometre of gravel and dirt. While, not an issue if taken slowly, you should be aware that our rural home does have an correspondingly rural driveway. During the winter this gets ploughed semi-regularly but it is by no means an officially maintained road. This means you should go slow and avoid getting sucked into the snow banks on either side.
