For the December and January holidays, we ask that our guests please reserve a full week +/- 1 day when possible. We are not able to accommodate a full-season ski lease, unfortunately.
This is a custom-built house with tremendous open space, amazing natural light, and all of the luxurious touches that will make your mountain vacation special and comfortable. High-end touches include hand-made quilts by one of America's most award-winning quilters, a 6-bottle wine fridge, a dumbwaiter for groceries and firewood, and and Lake Tahoe-themed art all around the home. Even with these amenities, our house is geared toward families with children and teenagers - we love welcoming multiple generations for a family vacation, or even a group of local friends who bring their families together for a fun weekend in the mountains.
Comfortably sleeps 12 guests in 3 bedrooms + private den, a loft/play area, and 2.5 bathrooms. We can accommodate 3-4 couples in private spaces, or 2-3 families depending on the number of kids and their required sleeping arrangements.

-Guest room with queen bed (shares a full bath with bunk room upstairs)
-Loft, open for playspace and two twin beds (perfect for teens!)
-Den, closed with a screen to function as a bedroom, uses downstairs toilet with a comfy couch that pulls out into a queen bed
-Garage for 2 cars keeps your car out of the snow and sun!
-Full kitchen and dining room, large living room, and a real-wood stove to heat the house. High ceilings create an open feel. An outdoor deck features a propane BBQ for your use.
-Hundreds of books, more than a dozen board games for all ages, area maps
-Essential baby and kid items including two pack 'n plays (always available in the loft), a changing pad, a boppy, burp cloths, baby soap, white noise machine, sleep to wake clock, and a playmat.
-Kitchen is completely stocked with pots, pans, silverware, toaster, coffee maker, bakeware, etc. We include cooking aids for your enjoyment and condiments in the fridge - olive oil, about a dozen spices, coffee, tea and apple cider, dressings, hot sauce, etc.
-Sleds for adults and kids
-Lockbox for entry if we are not at home; we will share the code the day before your arrival
-Note: we don't have television, DVD player or cable here (on purpose!), but we do have wifi. If you are interested in watching something, please bring your laptop to stream or watch DVDs. For sporting events, The Summit Restaurant just 2 miles up the road has satellite TV and is always showing games.
**Important Note from the Hosts:**
This beautiful house is our part-time home. The home includes all of the amenities you require for an upscale, comfortable stay. Because we keep a very clean, asthma-friendly environment for our own families, you should expect to arrive to an extremely well-maintained environment. We will treat you like family, and ask that our guests treat our home as if it were your own! For us, this means no shoes in the house and helping us keep the home as dirt and dust-free as possible. There is absolutely no smoking on the property for any reason; this includes all indoor and outdoor spaces. Please review the house rules for a full list of requirements. Guest AccessThe entire home is yours to use, including a washer/dryer, kitchen essentials, BBQ, deck, wood to make a fire, the garage, picnic baskets, beach blankets, and tons of books and games. Walk out the front door and find trails less than 1/10 mile away to explore! As our guests, you'll have access to the private Serene Lakes Homeowners' Beach just 1 mile away. Interaction with GuestsYour hosts will be nearby in the Bay Area and just a phone call or text message away if we don't have the chance to meet you personally. You have 24-7-365 access to us via phone. Keys will be in a lockbox for you.
We will provide you with local recommendations, activities, and seasonal websites to help you plan your visit. The NeighborhoodSerene Lakes is a small, beautiful, family-friendly community "off the beaten path" on the way to Lake Tahoe (10 minutes before Truckee on I80 N). With a private lake and centrally located inside the Royal Gorge snowshoe/hiking/biking trail system (and just steps from the clubhouse), our home is in the center of the Sierra Nevadas. Sugar Bowl family ski resort is 3 miles away. We're 2.5 hours from SF/Marin/East Bay and 60 minutes from Reno/South Lake Tahoe.
This home is truly a dream for outdoor enthusiasts who want to mountain bike or hike. Summer weekends boast access to a maintained private beach, complete with a volleyball court, dock, and snack shack that sells everything from ice cream to beer and hot dogs. Kids ride their bikes freely around the lakes in this safe, nearly tourist-free neighborhood.
In the Winter:
-Check out Soda Springs Resort - just 1.5 miles away and great for a half-day with small children!
-Our secret neighborhood sledding hill at the corner of Cascade and Acorn (about .5 miles away)
-Sugar Bowl for fantastic family skiing, including half and full day kids' lessons
-Royal Gorge for snowshoe fun - literally across the street from the house
-Downtown Truckee for good food and lots of window shopping (about 10 minutes away) Getting AroundYou'll need your own car. We offer 2 covered parking spaces and 3 driveway spaces. Street parking is available in the summer months.
The tiny town of Soda Springs is 3 minutes away and has a small grocery store and The Summit restaurant. We are 10 minutes from Truckee (nearest major grocery store and shopping, restaurants), 10 minutes from Donner Lake (amazing water activities) and 30 minutes from Squaw Valley.
Please note that in winter, snow accumulations are commonplace. Please review all Caltrans and CHP alerts for travel restrictions and carry chains if you need to. If you aren't sure if you'll need them, contact us and we will help. The weather can change quickly; be safe and be prepared! Other Things to NoteIn winter: this area gets up to 600" of snow per year. Please plan your trip accordingly as we cannot be responsible for missed nights due to weather or travel delays. Check for chain requirements by looking up Cal Trans or the CHP on the web and searching for highway 80 to find current road conditions.
