The SpaceI have a large living area with a lounge suite and large dinning table. There's also a swivel arm chair next to the fireplace. The house is a work in progress, it has much potential. So if time allows I can take you for tour of my town. I love Tasmania and like giving guests ideas and suggestions of things to do and see in Tasmania - you just have to ask. The NeighborhoodThe houses in the street all look the same. They're old hydro houses that are made to be relocatable. Getting AroundThe best way to get around and see Tassie and my area is by hire car. There's also a Tassie Link bus every second day. And there's also hitch hiking which is safe in Tassie and doing it the hard way by cycling. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available to help you decide where to visit, places to dine and things to do. Happy to just simply chat over a cuppa or in the evening, enjoy a drink (BYO) at our bar. Your stay can be as private as you wish. Your space is yours to enjoy and any interaction with us is entirely your choice. The NeighborhoodWynyard is a relaxed seaside town famous for its flat-topped Table Cape and its iconic lighthouse dating from 1888 which was the focus of the 1988 bi-centennial celebration for the area. Your hostess is a direct descendant of the original Lighthouse Keeper and has many family stories to tell. In October there is the amazing Tulip Festival and a Foreshore Market is held every second Sunday where local produce can be obtained. The waterfront and foreshore are popular with tourists and the local community alike. In the town centre there are hotels, cafes and restaurants to explore and enjoy. All of the area's attractions are within easy reach by car. With Wynyard only an easy hours drive from Devonport where the The Spirit of Tasmania docks and a scenic 90 minutes (approx) drive to the beautiful Cradle Mountain, Wynyard can be your base to take fabulous day trips from. Getting AroundHaving its own busy airport, car hire is available (Avis, Europcar & Hertz) but it's wise to book beforehand. A Taxi Service is also available as are buses (a bus passes the house) but with Wynyard being a small rural town, getting around is not a problem. There are several easy walking tracks for those who wish to enjoy the scenery on foot.

The SpaceManuka Surf Shack is a comfortable warm well equipped spacious shack, situated in the tiny community of Trial Harbour. It has a gas oven, gas hot water and a gas fridge. It is important that guests understand that as Trial Harbour is off grid there is no TV or INTERNET or POWER OUTLETS to charge electronics. Off grid means no 240 power supply. Occasionally we have guests that stay at Manuka Surf shack wanting a unique experience and then complain that they couldn't charge their phone or laptops etc. We just want to make it really clear that the tiny township of Trial Harbour is not connected to the grid. We have a simple 12 volt, solar power system in the shack. There are lights in all the rooms but not as bright as you will be used to. We could put in battery banks and an inverter but then it would be too complicated for people to use. We suggest you bring your own charger in your car or if you are really reliant on 240volt power supply you stay in Zeehan or Strahan. Manuka is a minutes walk from the beach. At night you can lie in bed listening to powerful waves that hit the coast. In the morning you wake up to the sound of hundreds of birds calling their wake up songs. If you stay at Manuka during the week you will be lucky to see more than a few other people during your stay. If you choose to go over the school holidays or Easter you will meet friendly locals staying in their shacks. The fishing and diving is world class, the waves are world class but not for the beginner, the flowers and birds are beautiful and the landscape is to die for. Many people comment that when you walk or ride up along the vast coast North of the township it reminds them of Ireland. If you like looking at native animals be sure to bring some torches and go out looking at all the animals at night. Occasionally we have a large wombat that comes into the backyard and there are always plenty of wallabies. There is a lovely little creek that is just perfect for the kids to go tidily fishing in. Our kids loved it and spent many hours catching and gently releasing little fish back into the creek. Guest AccessYou are welcome to use the whole shack including a large deck with ocean views and wood fuelled barbecue in the back yard. Inside is a wood heater that warms the whole shack. All wood is supplied. Linen and towels are supplied. The shack has gas fridge, gas oven and gas hot water. Interaction with GuestsThroughout your stay our manager Toni who lives at Trial Harbour will help you in anyway she can. The NeighborhoodThere are around 30 shacks in the community of Trial Harbour. There are eight permanent residence. Most of the year it is very quiet and you feel like you have the place to yourself. Other Things to NoteIt is really important for prospective guest to understand that Manuka Surf Shack is in a remote wild area. The closest shop is 20km away, there is no grid power so power is solar and 12volt. There is no internet connection and no TV. You can get mobile reception (not optus) and mobile internet a few minutes walk from Manuka. The first half of the 20km road in from the Zeehan is sealed the rest is gravel but suitable for two wheel drives. The ocean can be dangerous but there is a beautiful river you can walk to to go swimming in. It's rugged it's awesome it is unique. Our Insurance policy requires that we obtain photo ID at the time of booking.
