The SpaceThe kitchen / main living area is one big artistic space reflecting the owners personality and creativity. The living area and outside being the ideal place to sit, chill, relax, unwind and take in the spectacular mountainous / top of forest views. Outside the front door is the forest where you can easily go for a walk, day or night! Do not forget your walking boots / mountain bike! Guest AccessYou will have private use of the main bathroom, which on rare occassions other visitors may need to access. Interaction with GuestsGuest interaction is always on the menu in this home. Importantly this is a HOME and NOT A HOTEL and thus will feel like a home. Your time at Cockatoos Calling is important to us and we will endeavour to make sure you can relax and chill in your own or shared environments. You are welcome to take Rocky [dog] for a forest walk. The NeighborhoodThis home is situated high 280m within the Mistake Forest. Easy 4WD access to The Dungirr National Park in only half an hour away, where you can view the surrounding area south coast high from the Bowra Sugarloaf lookout. A view point, great for a picnic. The Forest roads have recently been graded making this one of the best downhill MTB ride areas. The host cycles often so if you have two wheels and a good set of lungs, you are most welcome :) Dig out your walking boots and enjoy a great 2 to 3 hour walk from the home, up to the top of The Whip Mountain 486m where you will be able to see down the south coast. A great place for a picnic! Twenty minutes drive is the famous Pub With No Beer, which serves lunches and weekend evening meals. Sunday's always draws a crowd. Macksville is the nearest town and this would be around 15 to 20 minutes away and is where you would pick up supplies if intending to cook your own meal in the evening. Bowraville and Nambucca Heads [on the beach] being other towns close by, around 30 minutes away. Kempsey is around a 45 minute drive and Coffs Harbour 1 hour. Getting AroundThe main railway station is Macksville which has interstate / local bus services and taxis. Time from Macksville to the home by vehicle is twenty minutes. Other Things to NoteYou will be asked to limit your showers to 5 minutes when tank water reserves are low.

Located on the Upper Macleay River between Armidale and Kempsey in northern NSW and surrounded by National Parks, Bass Lodge is the perfect getaway for fisherman, 4WD enthusiasts, hikers, family or social groups. Staying at the Lodge is affordable, and it really is truly unique within Australia. The area: The area around Bass lodge is breathtaking. Situated at "The Junction", Bass Lodge is positioned on the Macleay River at the entrance of Georges Creek. Upstream on the Macleay lies National Parks and wilderness with many mountain river systems feeding into the Macleay. As the topography upstream on the Macleay River is extremely vast and steep having extremely limited access, the fishing is fantastic. Getting in to some areas is however possible via 4WD but you need to be prepared. Downstream from the Lodge lies miles and miles of river which is accessible from the road and offering good fishing and general sightseeing opportunities. Why stay?     Our home is situated on 200 acres of land with Sub tropical Rain Forest and Wet Sclerophyll forest on the North Coast of New South Wales. A Creek flows past the dwelling and walking 300 meters upstream along the creek surrounded by rain forest and peacefulness, you reach your private 20 metre waterfall with a small pool. If you feel like a trekking through the bush you can walk to the top of the waterfall and beyond. There are many walks (off track) that you can investigate to see the wonders of our beautiful bush. Our home has just been transformed from a run down shed to a beautiful space to live and experience the Australian bush. Being out here and relaxing in this tranquil environment is what makes it special. Girralong Rainforest Retreat is off grid and powered by solar energy with a solar hot water system. Water is pumped to our tanks above the house from the creek and is gravity fed to the house. With that in mind if you would like to stay you need to be aware of your energy and water use. The living and dining area are open planed with a outside BBQ and dining area which is covered for you to enjoy in all types of weather. There is a fire pit for you to enjoy a fire under the stars. The kitchen has a wood fired oven, so it can cook your food but also can heat the living space as well as being a back up to heating your water. There is also a separate fire place to heat the entire house. The 3 bedrooms have views of the bush and are spacious, two bedrooms have a Queen sized bed and the third bedroom has bunk beds. While here you may see a variety of birds and animals that are native to the surrounding area. They could range from goanna's, frilled neck lizards, bush turkeys, variety of snakes, lyre birds just to name a few. There are many walks that you can enjoy while staying here along the creeks and up in to the bush . Off the property there are many 4 Wheel Drive tracks which you can travel on which will enable you to see more of our beautiful countryside. Access wise you do need a 4Wheel Drive. Coffs Harbour is 1 hour and 20 minutes from the property, Sydney is about 7 hours away and the local beaches of Nambucca are 45 minutes from the property.

      Notre maison se trouve sur 200 acres de terrain avec Sub forêt tropicale et les forêts tropicales sur la North Coast of New South Wales. Un flux Creek ancien logement et 300 mètres en amont de la marche le long du ruisseau, entouré de forêt tropicale et de la tranquillité, vous atteignez votre chute d'eau privé de 20 mètres avec une petite piscine. Si vous avez envie d'une randonnée à travers la brousse, vous pouvez marcher jusqu'au sommet de la cascade et au-delà. Il y a beaucoup de promenades (hors piste) que vous pouvez examiner pour voir les merveilles de notre belle bush. Notre maison a juste été transformé d'un hangar délabré d'un bel espace à vivre et à découvrir le bush australien. Être ici et de détente dans cet environnement tranquil sont ce qui le rend spécial. Girralong Rainforest Retreat est hors réseau et alimenté par énergie solaire avec un système de chauffe-eau solaire. L'eau est pompée dans nos réservoirs au-dessus de la maison du ruisseau et gravité alimente la maison. Dans cet esprit si vous voulez loger, vous avez besoin de connaître votre utilisation de l'énergie et l'eau. Le salon/salle à manger sont ouverts rabotés avec un barbecue extérieur et salle à manger qui est couvert pour votre plaisir dans tous les types de temps. Il y a un feu de camp pour vous de profiter d'un feu sous les étoiles. La cuisine a un four bois, donc il peut cuire vos aliments mais aussi peut chauffer l'espace de vie tout en étant un retour jusqu'à chauffer votre eau. Il y a aussi une cheminée séparée pour chauffer toute la maison. Les 3 chambres ont vue sur la brousse et sont spacieuses, les deux chambres ont un lit Queen et la troisième chambre a des lits superposés. Alors là, vous verrez une variété d'oiseaux et d'animaux qui sont originaires de la région environnante. Ils pourraient varier de goanna, lézards de col à jabot, bush dindes, variété de serpents, oiseaux lyre juste pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns. Il y a beaucoup de promenades que vous pourrez déguster lors de votre séjour ici le long des ruisseaux et jusqu'à dans la brousse. Au large de la propriété, il y a plusieurs pistes de 4 roues motrices qui vous pouvez voyager sur qui vous permettra de voir plus de notre belle campagne. The pub with no beer is just out of Macksville and a little further afield South West Rocks Trial Bay Goal, Port Macquarie has the Billabong Zoo and Wauchope's Timbertown. A little closer, just 2 mins up the road is the start of the Horseshoe Road 4wd track which winds its way out though Gumbaynggirr and Killiecrankie Forest to the edge of the New England National Park ending up just west of Bellingen and The Butter factory. Getting AroundPublic transport to the property is unavailable but arrangements can be made to be picked up from Nambucca or Macksville Train Station or from Coffs Harbour Regional Airport. Things to Do at Bemurrah You can just take time to unwind, put your feet up and enjoy the views. Maybe relax by the majestic Macleay River with a good book Have a swim in the crystal clear waters, try your hand at fishing or go exploring the river in a canoe. If you want some gentle exercise you could go bushwalking and try to spot some native wildlife including wallabies or our abundant birdlife. Bemurrah is still part of a working cattle station so in spring you will enjoy seeing new baby calves running around playing with their mums. Go for a drive to one of the fabulous national parks that surround us or grab your board and head to the coast. Fishing, canoeing, swimming, bushwalking, bird watching or just sit and admire the views. It's your choice. You will need to bring your fishing and canoeing gear. Attractions And History The Macleay Valley Coast's commercial origins in timber-getting and dairy farming can still be seen in it's historic landscape. Abandoned farm houses and sheds tell stories of the pioneering past. A visit to the national trust village of Bellbrook is just like taking a step back in time. Bellbrook was named in 1882 by Caroline McMaugh after the local bellbirds and the adjacent river. It is a significant example of a turn-of-the-century hamlet. Travel the 'Slim Dusty Way' from the Pacific Highway at Kempsey to explore the childhood tramping ground of Slim Dusty around Bellbrook, Nulla Nulla and the Upper Macleay Hinterland. Or you could head to the coast and visit Trial Bay Gaol, in the Arakoon State Recreation Area. Don’t miss the view of Trial Bay from the guard turret at the western end of the complex.
