The SpaceRelax in front of the over-sized picture window and take in the view of the mountains in your large living room with fireplace. This ground floor apartment with full bath easily sleeps 4 people. The bedroom features a comfortable queen-sized bed. Living room futon couch converts to a bed for two additional guests. Turned off by a futon? Don't be because this is most definitely NOT the rock hard futon of yesteryear. Instead it’s an exceptionally comfortable, high-end mattress which I would use as my primary bed in a heartbeat. The apartment has two high efficiency air conditioners, one cools the LR/Kitchen and there is a separate unit in the bedroom. If you grow tired of dining at one of the 9 restaurants, cafes, and taverns that make up the South Hadley Village Commons [(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) it] 1 mile away, you can stay in and enjoy your full eat-in kitchen. There are few spots in the kitchen where the ceiling is lower -- so if you're 6ft tall or more you'll need to duck. Well worth it though to enjoy making meals in your fully-stocked kitchen. The yard just outside your door is yours to enjoy. Sit back and listen to the birds as you enjoy your morning coffee or sip a glass of wine as you watch the magnificent sunsets over the mountain range. TV with full cable. Use the wireless connection from the desk in the living room or anywhere in the apartment. For your convenience there's even a printer. Use of the laundry just off the apartment. Bit of trivia. The first tenant to occupy the apartment in 1949 was Mount Holyoke college professor Dr. Grace Bates. It was the same year that Bates became one of the first women in the United States to earn a PhD in math. Guest AccessYou'll have wireless internet and use of the laundry room just off the apartment. Interaction with GuestsThe entire apartment is yours to use so you can have all the privacy you need or want. If it's helpful, I'm a life-long resident of western Massachusetts so if you like I'm happy to point you to fabulous restaurants, the local art and theater scene, or just the best places to walk, hike, or take a scenic drive. The NeighborhoodThis is a quiet street of lovely residential homes, many owned by Mount Holyoke faculty and administrators. Getting AroundGetting around is super easy. If you want to drive, it's 15 minutes (tops) to Amherst or the Hadley malls where there's a Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and four other grocery stores. There's another major grocery store 10 minutes south. Northampton with its abundance of restaurants and shops is also a scenic 15 minute drive away. There's also free bus service between Mount Holyoke (1 mile from the apartment) and Amherst and Northampton. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Umass Transit for schedules between Mount Holyoke, Amherst, UMass, and Smith (Northampton). The bus goes other places as well but you need to get to UMass to transfer. The NeighborhoodVery quiet and wooded dead-end neighborhood that was developed as faculty housing for Mount Holyoke College. Two blocks from the main entrance to Mount Holyoke College. Getting AroundYou don't need a car to get around the area. We're a 0.4 mile walk to the Peter Pan bus stop and PVTA bus stop at the South Hadley Village Commons. The PVTA system has a few different buses that go to Amherst and Northampton. During the school year the 38 goes to a from Amherst twice per hour, and the 39 goes to and from Northampton once per hour. During the summer the R29 goes to Amherst and Holyoke multiple times per day. Check the PVTA website or (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps for specific schedules. The SpaceThere is a long desk in one of the bedrooms which you can feel free to use. There is also a small desk in the room between the kitchen and living room that you can also ask to use. Guest AccessYou can use your room, the bathroom, the kitchen, the yard and sometimes the living room. I have two Adirondack chairs that I put on the lawn when the weather is nice. There are two driveways and you can park in whichever one is empty. Interaction with GuestsI work as a teacher, so it will depend on the day as to whether I'm available for socializing or am too tired or have to do some grading or preparation. I'm quite happy to orient you to the local geography or field questions about where things are located in the valley. The NeighborhoodAs well as everything that is in town, it is a 1 mile walk down to the Connecticut River. There is a marina there with a restaurant. The house borders on a peaceful cemetary (the neighbors are very quiet!) that many locals use to walk in. There are historic gravestones dating back as far as the 1700's. Getting AroundIf you are on foot, you can walk to restaurants, bank, post office, book store, cafes a free art museum and Mount Holyoke College. The library at the college has free internet access and a good cafe. There are free outdoor tennis courts, that are usually available. There are nice walking paths around the campus, through the woods and a 1 mile loop around the upper pond. In front of the library is a bus stop that services PVTA bus routes 38, 39 and R29. The first two are free buses that run during the college year to the other four colleges in the valley. It's a straight shot into Amherst on the bus and you can get off at Hampshire College to transfer onto a bus that takes you to Northampton. So, if you don't have a car or don't want to use one, it's quite easy to get around a large portion of the valley. If you have a car, I'm happy to tell you about local points of interest.
