The SpaceYou'll stay upstairs in our front study-bedroom, which is a double room that's good for one or two guests and can be configured with a single bed, twin beds or a super-king-sized double bed at your request (see photos). The room is comfortable for work and relaxation. Our home is just a few minutes from the heart of Southampton University's Highfield campus. There are great transport connections -- including to the cruise terminal -- and good local amenities a short walk away. If you're going on a cruise, stay with us -- we can arrange parking and transport. Guest AccessYour room has a night stand with storage, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe with a full-length mirror. The warm bathroom next door is recently installed and has a heated slate floor and a walk-in rain-storm shower. It's exclusively for guest use. We provide toiletries. We supply a basket of complimentary snacks including breakfast cereals and pastries. For preparing other snacks, there's a kettle, microwave/grill, mini-refrigerator, crockery and cutlery in the room together with supplies of tea and coffee - ask us for milk. For your further comfort there is a rocking chair, a large desk and chair to work at, an ironing board and steam iron, a trouser press, a computer and a DVD player. We have cable broadband and wi-fi. Access to our family lounge or kitchen is not always possible although we'll try to help with any needs you have. We sometimes offer cooked breakfasts for an extra charge -- please ask. We have a large, leafy garden with shady corners for reading, which you are welcome to use. If you need a room for one or two more adult guests, please ask as we have an extra space we can often make available on request at extra cost. Interaction with GuestsYour space is away from the part of the house that's usually occupied, so you can shut the door and forget about us. All the same, we will be home throughout your visit and will do our best to make you feel welcome, maybe over a shared beverage! Whenever you see our door is open, you're welcome to just come through. We have lived here a long time and will be pleased to help you with travel planning or to help solve problems. We have travelled extensively, know the University, City and region and can probably recommend the perfect restaurant, outing or supplier. The NeighborhoodHighfield is a quiet, leafy suburb of Southampton next to the main Southampton University campus and about 10 minutes by bus from the city centre. There's culture -- the Nuffield Theatre and the Turner-Sims Concert Hall -- together with a full range of food and drink choices from pubs to fine dining within a 10 minute walk. We're also near the Lloyd's Register campus. A short bus or taxi ride gets you to the centre of historic Southampton, to the extensive shopping at West Quay and the restaurants of Oxford Street, to Southampton Solent University, to the Cruise Terminals, to the National Oceanography Centre, to the Airport and to the Isle of Wight Ferry. 25 minutes by road gets you to the New Forest National Park or to the mediaeval city of Winchester. Within an hour's drive there's Salisbury, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Chichester and Stonehenge. We have a selection of guides available on request. Getting AroundThe University Bus Interchange is just up the road, so there is very good transport access to the whole city (including the docks, cruise terminal and Boat Show) and to the airport and stations. It's also served by National Express coaches from & to Heathrow and Gatwick. From Southampton Airport, take the U1 bus or a taxi from the station. The streets around the University all have restricted parking but we'll provide free off-street parking for one vehicle if you need it, together with electric vehicle charging on request. If you've more vehicles, we may be able to provide parking for an extra charge. If you're cycling, we can provide directions as well as space in our bike shed on request. Other Things to NoteYou'll be staying in our family home. The room is not suitable for more than two people of any age, although we sometimes make exceptions for couples with babies. We have a second, downstairs room you can book if there are other independent adults or responsible older children in your group - please ask for details. If you have special requirements, please do let us know. As travellers ourselves, we are willing and able to help with all sorts of problems, including transport and mobile phone SIMs. Our house always contains nuts. We hope you'll find your stay relaxed and comfortable.

The SpaceDouble room in a family house with tv and wifi. You'll share our bathroom and kitchen (breakfast bar for you to eat at or you can eat in your room) and our small but cosy garden. There is one small but noisy dog in residence. He is very friendly and loves cuddles. He is a dachsund cross Cocker spaniel called Raggy. We would like this to be your home from home and to make yourself comfortable during your stay. Come and go as you wish - no curfew. The room is as in the pictures. It has adequate storage and hanging space for your clothes and possessions. All bed linen and towels are provided. You may eat in your room or at the breakfast bar in the kitchen. We are very happy to share our space with you but also understand if you wish to be on your own. If you would like a small table in your room for eating or to do work on please let us know. (it is a small table though!) Bathroom. The bathroom has a roll top bath which is higher than standard baths and our stair case is a bit steep - we are maybe not suitable for the elderly. The shower is over the bath. There is hot water for you to have a shower at any time of the day. If you wish to have a bath the best time (hot water wise) is first thing in the morning or after 8pm. This is due to our boiler system. If you would prefer a bath at any other time please let us know and we'll put the hot water on for you. Please feel free to make use of the empty shelf to store your toiletries. kitchen. A shelf in the fridge and a draw in the freezer is empty for your use. There is also a cupboard left empty for you to use. You can use anything in the kitchen to prepare and eat your food. There is a breakfast bar for you to eat at. Garden. Please smoke out here, an ashtray is provided. Jo is always present to welcome you and orientate you to the house, to give advice on directions to shops etc and to bid you farewell at the end of your stay. There are a variety of grocery shops within a 10-15 min walk. The train station is only 5 mins walk away. Portswood Road is about a 20 minute walk away and offers all the usual high street stores and lots of eateries. Riverside Park is a 10 minute walk away and is great for walking/running or sitting and watching the swans and the world go by. Bus services to the city centre, university sites and hospitals is a 5 minute walk from us on St Denys road. Radio taxis service can be contacted on (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) We would prefer our guests to either loves dogs or not be bothered by them. If you hate/are afraid or are allergic to dogs please look for somewhere else to stay. Thank you. Guest AccessYou have free access to the bathroom, kitchen and garden. Interaction with GuestsI'm normally around most of the time during your stay as I work from home so I'm happy to help advise you if you wish. The NeighborhoodOur neighbourhood is pretty mixed. We live in a Victorian terraced house and the street is interspersed with more modern houses due to Southampton being bombed heavily in the war. We are only a few minutes walk from the Itchen river and there is a small park at the end of the road where you can sit and watch the river. Further up the river about another 10 minutes walk is Riverside Park which is frequented by strolling people, runners, cyclists, children and rowing clubs. The entrance to the park is near Bitterne Triangle which has a Co-Op (with a free ATM) a hardware store, bakery, charity shop and an ice cream parlour. As well as some take aways, two tattooists! and a micro pub. In the other direction is Portswood Road which has a large Sainsburys, Boots, Post office, library and a lot of eateries and take aways. Portswood is populated by students so the food is not Michelin starred! Having said that there are a couple of places I would recommend - Trago Lounge is a restaurant with a lovely relaxed atmosphere and good food. You can't beat Sprinkles for a latte and pancakes. Getting AroundWe are 5 minutes walk from St Denys train station where you can get to Southampton Central and Southampton Airport in about 5-10 minutes. We are near junction 7 of the M27. Bus routes - First number 7, Unilink number 9and Bluestar number 16. Radio Taxis (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Other Things to NoteWe are conveniently located near the Southampton airport, unfortunately we do get planes that fly over our house. They usually stop by 9-10pm. It is not constant but they can be loud at times.
