The SpaceYou'll stay upstairs in our front study-bedroom, which is a double room that's good for one or two guests and can be configured with a single bed, twin beds or a super-king-sized double bed at your request (see photos). The room is comfortable for work and relaxation.
Our home is just a few minutes from the heart of Southampton University's Highfield campus. There are great transport connections -- including to the cruise terminal -- and good local amenities a short walk away.
If you're going on a cruise, stay with us -- we can arrange parking and transport. Guest AccessYour room has a night stand with storage, a chest of drawers and a wardrobe with a full-length mirror. The warm bathroom next door is recently installed and has a heated slate floor and a walk-in rain-storm shower. It's exclusively for guest use. We provide toiletries.
We supply a basket of complimentary snacks including breakfast cereals and pastries. For preparing other snacks, there's a kettle, microwave/grill, mini-refrigerator, crockery and cutlery in the room together with supplies of tea and coffee - ask us for milk. For your further comfort there is a rocking chair, a large desk and chair to work at, an ironing board and steam iron, a trouser press, a computer and a DVD player.
We have cable broadband and wi-fi. Access to our family lounge or kitchen is not always possible although we'll try to help with any needs you have. We sometimes offer cooked breakfasts for an extra charge -- please ask.
We have a large, leafy garden with shady corners for reading, which you are welcome to use.
If you need a room for one or two more adult guests, please ask as we have an extra space we can often make available on request at extra cost. Interaction with GuestsYour space is away from the part of the house that's usually occupied, so you can shut the door and forget about us. All the same, we will be home throughout your visit and will do our best to make you feel welcome, maybe over a shared beverage! Whenever you see our door is open, you're welcome to just come through.
We have lived here a long time and will be pleased to help you with travel planning or to help solve problems. We have travelled extensively, know the University, City and region and can probably recommend the perfect restaurant, outing or supplier. The NeighborhoodHighfield is a quiet, leafy suburb of Southampton next to the main Southampton University campus and about 10 minutes by bus from the city centre. There's culture -- the Nuffield Theatre and the Turner-Sims Concert Hall -- together with a full range of food and drink choices from pubs to fine dining within a 10 minute walk. We're also near the Lloyd's Register campus.
A short bus or taxi ride gets you to the centre of historic Southampton, to the extensive shopping at West Quay and the restaurants of Oxford Street, to Southampton Solent University, to the Cruise Terminals, to the National Oceanography Centre, to the Airport and to the Isle of Wight Ferry. 25 minutes by road gets you to the New Forest National Park or to the mediaeval city of Winchester. Within an hour's drive there's Salisbury, Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Chichester and Stonehenge. We have a selection of guides available on request. Getting AroundThe University Bus Interchange is just up the road, so there is very good transport access to the whole city (including the docks, cruise terminal and Boat Show) and to the airport and stations. It's also served by National Express coaches from & to Heathrow and Gatwick. From Southampton Airport, take the U1 bus or a taxi from the station.
The streets around the University all have restricted parking but we'll provide free off-street parking for one vehicle if you need it, together with electric vehicle charging on request. If you've more vehicles, we may be able to provide parking for an extra charge.
If you're cycling, we can provide directions as well as space in our bike shed on request. Other Things to NoteYou'll be staying in our family home. The room is not suitable for more than two people of any age, although we sometimes make exceptions for couples with babies. We have a second, downstairs room you can book if there are other independent adults or responsible older children in your group - please ask for details. If you have special requirements, please do let us know.
As travellers ourselves, we are willing and able to help with all sorts of problems, including transport and mobile phone SIMs. Our house always contains nuts. We hope you'll find your stay relaxed and comfortable.
