The SpaceSouthwest Harbor, Maine, is located at the southwestern entrance to Somes Sound on Mount Desert Island. It is often referred to as the “quiet side” of the island because of the more mellow - less touristy ambiance. Bits of Acadia park are located all over the Island. Walk out my front door and you can be in the Park in ten minutes. Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. Southwest Harbor has some great shops, galleries and eateries worth checking out. Numerous, less crowded park hikes are available on the "Quiet Side." Many people choose the Quiet Side" for their visit to Acadia National Park. Pickup from BGR or BHR extra on request. In the summer you can do without a car using the LL Bean subsidized Islander bus. I moved here from the Bay Area in California because of the special feeling the island and its people provide. You'll love it too. My home is on Seal Cove Rd in Southwest Harbor. 1/3 mile off Main Street and 2 houses before Freeman Ridge Rd. You can see Somes Sound from my driveway. I have lots of info/maps/hiking guides/excursion brochures/restaurant recommendations available. For guests, there is a queen bedroom. If you require both the single and the queen room let me know and I will give you the "special offer" price of $110/night. Sorry, meal preparation in the kitchen is not allowed. I serve a breakfast of bagels or muffins or scones with juice/coffee/tea/yogurt and fruit. If you have food allergies, are gluten free, no-carb, lactose intolerant, vegan or anything else that would make this breakfast unacceptable, please let me know when you reserve. Rental of whole house sometimes available. Ask and I'll let you know when. The 9% maine tax is include in my pricing. This is bargain pricing for MDI accommodation with breakfast and private bath. Guest AccessPrivate bedroom and bath. My guests have access to living room and outside spaces. Wireless internet! Interaction with GuestsI am usually here for check-in and breakfast plus have many guide books, hiking maps and suggestions for enjoying MDI. Otherwise, you can have as much privacy as you want. This is my home which I share in the Mt Desert Island tradition of local residents catering to "rusticators". Other Things to NoteCheck your cell phone carrier for access here. AT&T the best. Sometimes lack of cell access presents problems with accurate check-in time. Plan ahead.

The SpaceIf you want to have the vacation of a lifetime for you and your family or friends - then Mount Desert Island is the place. And this beautiful, completely renovated coastal home is perfect. Lots of space, a beautiful kitchen with state-of-the-art stainless steel appliances. A porch overlooking the harbor. All of this - and two more things - privacy and you're in the heart of Sourthwest Harbor. Great restaurants, charming stores are 2 minutes away. A dock for kayaks and canoes is part of the property. This is truly one of the nicest places in Maine. We named the house "AnchorPoint" because it's where we look forward to coming every year - it's where we get anchored. This year - due to various schedules - we're renting the house for part of the summer. AnchorPoint is unusual because it has the best of everything in terms of location. It is in the center of town but it's down a private lane (with a sign that says "private") so you have, well, privacy. Within a 2 minute walk is Sawyers Market (hasn't changed in 75 years), 4-5 really top notch restaurants, the Island Shuttle bus which will take you free anywhere on the island, the ocean and our dock so you can kayak around the harbor...just about everything! The house itself is a 1901 classic shingled style which was completely remodeled in 2009-2011 - without losing any of its character or charm. The first floor has a laundry room, coat room, living room, big hallway, front porch (open) and front porch (windows), dining room, and a gigantic kitchen - so everyone can have hand in cooking dinner! The living room has a home theatre system for movies. On the second floor is a small porch with a great view overlooking the harbor, a big master bedroom, and 3 more bedrooms and a renovated full bath. On the third floor are what we call the "bunk rooms" - there are two of them and each has two built in bunk beds with ships lights for reading lights. There's a huge front lawn that slopes down to the water - a great spot for badminton or frisbee or a pickup softball game (the front yard is 3/4 acre). Please feel free to ask questions or make any requests. The NeighborhoodAnchorpoint has its own private lane and a sweeping lawn down to the harbor, yet it's literally a 5 minute walk to the center of town. The trails and sites of Acadia National Park Are easily accessible for hiking, biking or swimming. Getting AroundThe Island Explorer busses provide easy access to the park and Bar Harbor and they're free!

Interaction with GuestsPlease call us anytime with questions, concerns and definitely if there is any problem, no matter how small. Getting AroundThere is now a full time shuttle called the Island Explorer that runs all over the island. Other Things to NotePlease be aware that we do not furnish anything in the house other than a one small bath soap bar, a guest shampoo and a roll of toilet tissue in each bathroom. The SpaceThis guest apartment is the second floor of an extended New England Cape Cod house. Enjoy views from the windows of open fields and the mountains of Acadia National Park. There is a private entrance and off-street parking. You will find lots of extra detailing and an attractive, compact layout. Lithographs and prints of local scenes from Mount Desert Island are featured on the walls. A washer and dryer are adjacent to kitchen. The library includes classic fiction, mysteries, and nature books. Current tourist materials will help with planning your visit. The linen closet has all the sheets and towels you will need during your stay. The kitchen is stocked with dishes, flatware, cookware, and some basic condiments. RESERVE AT *airbnb* WITH PAYPAL, OR USE *home away* TO PAY WITH CREDIT CARD. Guest AccessThe guest suite is a self-contained two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen and access to shared laundry. WiFi internet access is included. Note there is no television: the night sky provides evening entertainment. Interaction with GuestsI will greet you upon arrival and give you an orientation to the apartment and the area. As a former Acadia National Park Ranger, I will provide first-hand information about visiting Mount Desert Island and other area attractions (Seal Cove Auto Museum is just around the bend). I will even tell you about my favorite walks: one for a foggy morning, another for that crystal-clear, blue-sky afternoon. The NeighborhoodLocated in Seal Cove, Maine, at the Long Pond entrance to Acadia National Park. 'Ferncrest' is on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island, near Pretty Marsh. It sits on the edge of a field overlooking Western Mountain. Two ponds are within walking distance. A short drive on unpaved roads brings you either to the ocean or the largest lake in Acadia National Park. The bustle of Bar Harbor is about 20 minutes away. The islands, mountains, oceanfront, ponds, trails, motor roads, and carriage roads of Acadia National Park are the biggest attraction in the area. Some of that beauty is right out the door of this guest apartment; the rest is close by. Nearby convenience stores are located in Bernard and Somesville; grocery and other shopping can be found in Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor. Getting AroundA vehicle is pretty much a necessity when staying at "Ferncrest." While there are seasonal shuttle buses serving Acadia and Mount Desert Island (May-Oct.), the closest stop is several miles away. Acadia's gravel roads are great for wide-tire bicycles. Local roads are not suited for biking, and I discourage bicycles as the primary means of transport for guests. It is too dangerous. Several local shops rent bikes suited to the park's roads. Other Things to NoteState of Maine lodging tax on your rental fee is approximately equal to the "Cleaning Fee" displayed on AirBnB. This residence is gay friendly. Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island merchants do not particularly cater to gay and lesbian tourists. However, there are some gay-owned businesses and welcoming congregations on the island. I offer my local knowledge to help gay visitors find their way.
