              This this lovely penthouse is set in an ideal position on the very edge of historic Speightstown, with amazing views over the aquamarine Caribbean Sea. Just a couple of steps away from the water, which is ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The apartment is beautifully furnished, fully equipped with everything you could need. Spacious and set over two floors with high cathedral ceilings and cool marble flooring, it gives a feeling of space and calm. A large sun terrace, which is partially covered giving the option of sun or shade at all times of day, where you can sip a cocktail and drink in the beautiful views, as you listen to the ocean lapping the shore. Both bedrooms, one of which is ensuite, have both ceiling fans and air conditioning. With doors and windows open you benefit from the cooling easterly breeze from the rear of the apartment, which is a constant on Barbados. All amenities are within easy walking distance, including bars, restaurants, banks, ATM machines, supermarkets, fish market, various shops etc. Historic Speightstown has a lively feel, and is one of the most authentic Caribbean towns remaining., with the locals going about their daily business. Friendly and courteous, they will always take the time for a chat, whether you are buying from the array of exotic fruit and vegetables from the local ladies at the street market, or just shooting the breeze at one of the many rum shops. There are several restaurants within and around Speightstown, but if you want to venture further afield, Holetown is just a ten minute ride away. Here you will find Limegrove Lifestyle centre, with international shops and restaurants, and also 1st and 2nd street, with a multitude of restaurants and bars, with live music and the famous Sunday night karaoke street party. Something for everyone. There are numerous fantastic beaches all over Barbados with the west coast or Platinum coast as it is known, having by far the most calm and tranquil, with powdery white sand...a trip to swim with the turtles is a must, you may even be lucky enough to see a turtle come ashore right infront of the property, to lay as many as 160 eggs., especially common at full moon. Other excursions include, Harrison's Cave, Grenade hall Wildlife centre, Huntes Gardens, Mount Gay Rum Factory, St. Nicholas Abbey, Sunbury Plantation House, the list goes on. A great fun day out for everyone is a catamaran cruise, where you visit several spots for swimming with turtles and reef diving etc, a great lunch and free flowing cocktails. My personal favourite is Cool Runnings, the crew are friendly and fun and will ensure you have a fabulous day. No trip to Barbados would be complete without a visit to the wild Atlantic Coast, with it's breathtaking beauty. Car hire can be arranged, but if you prefer not to drive, there is a main bus terminus a mere two minutes walk to the rear of the property, here you can take a bus to all parts of the island, tickets are $2 bds. no matter how long the journey. There are also the yellow reggae buses, which travel up and down the island, costing the same, they are an experience you should not miss!!! For the sporting, there are numerous activities to both partake in and enjoy. Apart from the obvious water based activities, there are many world class golf courses within 10 to 15 minutes, including the famous Green Monkey at Sandy Lane Hotel, several polo clubs with regular matches and events, horse racing at the Garrison on Saturdays, cricket..either a local match or a more exciting 20/20 at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown..horse riding on the stunning east coast can be arranged, with riding on the beach followed by a flame lit BBQ. The local dive shop is just across the road, where experienced divers Philip and Michael will take great care of you, night dives can also be arranged. There are guide books in the property, so you can decide whether you want cultural, sporting or simply just a relaxing chilled holiday. The famous West Coast sunsets are wonderful, watch them from the terrace at Turtle Beach or pop down to a local bar for cool Banks beer, or a Bajan rum cocktail. My housekeeper, Marva is on hand to assist with anything you require, she also handles check in etc., she's efficient and friendly. The beaches of the calm waters of the West Coast are perfect for swimming and snorkelling, and with many world class golf courses close by, there is something to please everyone. Reefers and Wreckers dive shop is a minute away, and Philip and Michael will take good care of you! night dives also available. There are several restaurants within walking distance, ranging from 5 star to the local rum shops....the choice is yours. Walk into Speightstown on a bustling Saturday morning, and see Caribbean colour and life all around you, local ladies selling exotic fruit and vegetables, fresh fish from the days catch at the market. Please note : AC in bedrooms only….there are units in the living area, but they are NOT connected to the mains :) Interaction with GuestsI spend around 5 months a year in Barbados, so depending on your time of visiting, depends on whether or not I will be on the island. My housekeeper who handles check in etc., will be on hand should you so require. If you wish daily housekeeping that can also be arranged directly with Marva, some people prefer their privacy others not, it's a flexible option. The NeighborhoodI spent many months looking for the ideal property in Barbados, after visiting the island for more than thirty years it was not an easy decision!! Speightstown won on many counts, it is quite possibly one of the most original authentic Caribbean towns still in existence. It was at one time know as "Little Bristol" due to it being the main port of call for trade boats calling into port from England, collecting spices and sugar. Here you are able to have as activity packed or as relaxing a vacation as you wish., the choices are all there. There are many bars and restaurants within a short walking distance, and should you wish to go further afield, the restaurants and bars of Holetown are a 10 minute drive away. The building is secure with gated entrance and parking, and is still tranquil yet within walking distance from all. I LOVE it !!! Getting AroundSpeightstown has a main bus terminal, which is a two minute walk from the rear of the building (no noise tho!)...from here you can take a bus to every corner of the island, all fares are 2$ bds. no matter how far you travel. There are several types of buses, government and private. You have to be brave and take a trip on yellow " reggae bus" .......that's an experience you won't forget or regret ! If you wish to hire a car, driving around the island is easy, and for those of from the UK no need to change sides. I can help arrange a hire car at competitive rates should you wish. Taxis are easily available and reasonably priced, there is a local taxi rank close to the property, and you can call one from the land line inside the apartment. The choice is yours, a car is not necessary, and if you wish to do an island tour, that can also be arranged with any local taxi driver. Other Things to NoteI have had my property for almost 9 years now, and have been renting out successfully through other sites. I'm looking forward to gaining many more repeat guests through the Airbnb network. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole apartment. They will not have to share any of the facilities. Interaction with GuestsThis is our home when we are in Barbados. Therefore we will not be there during the time of rental. Interaction with us will be mainly by mail. We have a local representative, who will also do the cleaning and is available for many suggestions to our guests. The apartment is managed by Barbados Sotheby's International Realty in Holetown. They can be contacted 24 h in case of need. The NeighborhoodThe Coral Sands apartment is just north of the centre of Speightstown, the second largest "town"on the island. Speightstown is small and not a "hot spot" for tourists, but close to Holetown with much more tourism. You see more local Bajan people here in Speightstown than tourists. Our home is in 10 minutes walking distance to supermarkets and shops, and another ten minutes from well known (and expensive) resorts. You can sit on the terrace and listen to the waves, you can go for a swim or snorkel in the reef and return without long preparations. In summer, turtles come on the beach and lay their eggs. We think we have here the best of two worlds: a quiet haven on the edge of where it is all happening. Getting AroundBarbados is well covered by many different bus routes. Fares are very low (1 US Dollar/person/trip in one bus). The bus station of Speightstown is in just 5 min walking distance. Many car rentals available; we can give you suggestions for fair rentals.                 Cadogan's at West Sea is a relaxing fully furnished townhome located on Barbados’ west coast. The property, located in the City of Speightstown, overlooks the calm Caribbean Sea. Beach access is less than a one minute walk from the property’s front door. The townhome features two (2) air conditioned bedrooms on the uppermost level (3rd floor), each with en suite bathrooms, and comfortably sleep a total of four (4) people. The rear bedroom has a wonderful Juliet balcony with unobstructed panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea, and has a queen size bed with light oak furnishings. Its en-suite bathroom also provides an enclosed tub and shower combo. The second bedroom consists of two (2) twin size beds, and it’s en-suite bathroom includes a spacious tile and glass-block walk-in shower.                 The SpaceEglantine is a 17th Century former merchant's house in the heart of bustling Speightstown. True to tradition, the shop would have been downstairs with the elegant living on the first floor. To this day, the gorgeous living/dining room upstairs has French doors and a balcony overlooking the bustling street below. There is a beautiful mural painted in this room depicting 'Olde Speightstown' by local artist, Hilary Armstrong. The master bedroom has a 6'6' very comfortable king size bed with a dressing room which has a single bed leading to the bathroom. In the dressing room, there is a door leading to stairs which take you directly into the private walled courtyard. The second bedroom has a 5' bed, again very comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom. The entire house is air conditioned and there is pretty wrought iron at the windows and an electric gate for added security which means you can leave the windows open to get the maximum breeze if you prefer not to use air conditioning. Downstairs there is a dining room as you enter the house with a TV living room beyond which leads to the kitchen. You can access the private walled garden from either the kitchen or the living room and there is a wooden gazebo where you can enjoy outside dining. The decoration is entirely sympathetic with a character property of this age and boasts beautiful wooden floors upstairs. This is truly a hidden gem. Satellite TV and internet are provided. There is a weekly maid service and baby sitting is available by arrangement. A welcome pack can be provided if requested and airport meet and greet service if required. Reservations for car hire, restaurants, golf, fishing etc. can be arranged. Use of the local gym and tennis, with or without coaching, are close by. Polo lessons and chukkas are available within a short distance from Speightstown at the world renowned Apes Hill Polo Centre and can be arranged to suit. Polo is played at Holders near to Holetown and at Apes Hill from November to May and there are many matches involving international visiting teams. Port St Charles is approximately 0.5 of a mile from Speightstown Horse-racing is in Bridgetown at the historic Garrison Savannah. St Nicholas Abbey is an attraction not to be missed and is close by along with the animal flower caves in the north of the island. Harrison's Caves are in the centre of the island and for children, the Wildlife Reserve is a short drive away with the monkey feeding time a favourite. The Atlantis submarine is in Bridgetown for those wishing to have the underwater experience and the east coast is a short drive with the spectacular beaches on the Atlantic side of the island. The calm waters of the West Coast are just a few minutes with Port St Charles with the yacht club offering luxury beach access and Mullins Beach where you can rent sun beds by the day and have lunch at Mullins Restaurant some five minutes from Speightstown. Inspired by a novel about life in the Winward Islands, Hill moved to Barbados in 1958, where she was a founding member of the local Institute of Architects and an active member of the Barbados National Trust. Nelson Gay, designed in the West Indian Colonial style, is considered one of Hill's best works, ranking among one of Barbados finest homes. Most recently renovated under the direction of architect Brian Surfleet, Nelson Gay has maintained a timeless quality difficult to find in more recently built properties, expertly mixing classic Palladian architecture with modern amenities to create the ideal family holiday setting. The home provides elegant accommodation for a couple desiring generous space for entertaining, and is also spacious enough for a large group or family, as it sleeps up to 18 people by special arrangement.                         This Bungalow is situated in the popular area of Heywoods Park, St Peter the West Coast of Barbados. 800 yards from white sandy beaches and 900 yards from the local town centre Speightstown, one of the original towns of Barbados. Speightstown consists of supermarkets, clothing shops, restaurants, Fishermans Pub and local Bars and don't forget takeaways. All the things that make a holiday enjoyable. Last but not least the locals are very welcoming and hospitable. The transport system for hired cars, Government buses and private buses are plentiful.
