The SpaceWelcome to Otter Haven, 200 acres of original and restored prairie (started in 1975) of Wisconsin’s native fauna and flora, as well as a restful retreat for guests escaping the daily grind. Whether you’d like to stroll through the low meadow grasses and wildflowers, or wander about the oak Savannah, take a leisurely tube down the Namekagen River, or fish the spring-fed ponds, we’re confident the natural charm will beset you. You might then pull out an old sketchpad, or paints, or bring along your photography skills. Perhaps you’d prefer the classic canoe, outdoor fire-pit, and s’mores, or rather an old-fashioned exploration of new knolls, islands, and wooded trails. If you’re inquisitive enough, and still enough, you’ll find our other regular residents: Deer and Heron, Otter and Beaver, Raven, Fox, Eagle, and Squirrel. Each trail offers its own discoveries and delights - like a traditional Native American Earth Lodge on one of our 5 islands, or a riverview outcropping of 6 oak trees perfectly situated to watch the river flow. So, wander as you will, you never know what you'll find. Guest AccessWe welcome you to our meadows and knolls, oak savanna, ponds, islands, traipsing trails, and river landing. We'll even scoot you into the creek in one of our canoes! For the curious one, there is much to be discovered here. For the one seeking a quiet but colorful repose, Otter Haven is well suited to you. Interaction with GuestsWe will receive you with warm welcome, provide you a tour of the cabin for your stay, as well as a map and offered tour of the property. We will leave you to your vacation, but are available on property to assist you if need be. Other Things to NoteWe will do our best to contact you in person when you make an inquiry so that we can discuss whatever questions you may have.

Welcome to Otter Haven, 100 acres of original and restored prairie (started in 1975) along the Namekagon River. Whether you'd like to stroll through the low meadow grasses and wildflowers, or wander about the oak Savannah, take a leisurely tube down the Namekagen River, or fish the spring-fed ponds, we're confident the natural charm will beset you. You might then pull out an old sketchpad, or paints, or bring along your photography skills. Perhaps you'd prefer the classic canoe, outdoor fire-pit, and s'mores, or rather an old-fashioned exploration of new knolls, islands, and wooded trails. If you're inquisitive enough, and still enough, you'll find our other regular residents: Deer and Heron, Otter and Beaver, Raven, Fox, Eagle, and Squirrel. Each trail offers its own discoveries and delights - like a traditional Native American Earth Lodge on one of our 5 islands, or a riverview outcropping of 6 oak trees perfectly situated to watch the river flow. So, wander as you will, you never know what you'll find. For your vacationing comfort, we present our Guest House. For a 3 night minimum stay, at $160 per night, and $40 per night per individual beyond the first four individuals, our guests are provided an economical and picturesque stay. (During the Birkie nightly rates are valued at $200 per night, and $50 per individual past 4 individuals) A stroll along the sidewalk above the pond will bring you to the main entrance: the Great Room (30'x30'). The 14' vaulted ceiling angles over a space fit for dining, dancing, reading, and simply resting. The elegant dining room preens in the sunlight from a wall of south facing windows, overlooking the spring fed pond complex with 5 small islands. French doors open to the south, allowing one out onto the deck. The Great Room also contours a study corner, an upraised reading and resting area in the opposite corner, and a social sofa space gathered around the 4th corner's fireplace. These sleeper sofas don a night cap just as easily to offer a perfect slumber party space. A few steps down from the Great Room, through a set of double doors, enter into the Kitchen (15'x18'): a galley-style space painted a peaceful underwater blue with sandy colored tile. New electric appliances (large refrigerator and electric stove) and custom-made countertop built from the tamarack and black ash of Otter Haven, offer a comfortable place to prepare meals. Follow the tiles into the Bathroom (10'x15') to an elegantly tiled shower with opposing shower heads. The same serene blue splashes about the walls, over a simple single vanity, and back out to an alternate exit of the kitchen: the Master Bedroom. A few steps up from the kitchen, you will find a queen-sized bed basking in the southern sunlight of a picture window. The window's view captures the expanse of the front pond. Glance away from the window, to the western wall, and you'll find a sleeper sofa available for a day's loafing, while across the room a reading area rests in the breeze of windows open to the east. The Master Bedroom also claims a private entrance and deck that wraps around its eastern and southern sides. Within the Master Bedroom, you will find the perfect sleeping, reading, or relaxing hideaway in the Loft (15'x15'). Pads and beds make it great for midday snoozers. Just ask a ladder for assistance. For the quietest night's sleep, choose the Lower Bedroom (12'x16'), just off from the eastern side of the bathroom, or down from the Master Bedroom. This room nestles into the earth, yet allows the sun to peek in through an upper window for a soft "Good-Morning". Whichever room you use or choose, we're confident Otter Haven will host with comfort and charm, offering many an opportunity for playful exploration, or simple rest. Feel free to call for further details or interests, and we'll do our best to speak with you in person when you make an inquiry. Welcome to a Northwestern WI getaway, where water flows, fish flop, and wildlife flourishes. An array of fishing opportunities, waterway fun, and trail traipsing are available here. Simply inquire and we would be happy to direct you to the spot best suited to you.

Plan a canoe trip down the Yellow or Namekagen River, both close at hand. Play golf at the Spooner Country Club or the renowned Voyager Village course, both open to the public. Visit the Tommy Thompson fish hatchery in Spooner, largest in the state and tours are given. Go to the Potter's Shed in Shell Lake and watch them fire Raku pottery or have them glaze your own pot. Other Things to NoteIn the Winter months I'm not always there to shovel snow so you might have to walk through some snow to get to the front door. I ask that you do not drive up to the front door because the road salt will drip off your vehicle and kill the grass in the spring time

The list of local festivals goes on and on. A complete list of events and their dates can be found at the Washburn County Chamber of Commerce web site. THE CABIN! Relax among the pines in this privately owned family cabin nestled into 9 acres right on the Namekagan riverfront. Watch bald eagles soar overhead. Swim or catch some rays at your own sandy beach. The canoeing and kayaking are awesome or you can fish right from shore. For a change of scenery, venture out onto the 451 acre Trego Lake. Watch your kids create fun in the woods or build your own family memories. A large 4 season family room, an eat-in kitchen, a man-cave/party garage, and an oversized fire pit offer cozy gathering spots for friends and family. Head over to Spooner or Hayward for plenty of shopping, dinner and drinks, or summer festivals. Just one hour away is Duluth and all that Lake Superior has to offer. This particular cabin is relaxed and comfortable but you definitely will not be roughing it; the women will love it! There is lots of room for family and friends, plus adequate space for RVs, trailers and tents on the property. With central heat and air conditioning, a washer/dryer, warm showers, a gas fireplace and stove, TV and VCR / DVD player, this cabin has all the comforts of home. Don’t worry about bringing entertainment and fire wood because it is all supplied: bago/cornhole, bocci ball, a canoe, your own dock on a sandy beach, inner tubes, firewood, a nice big kitchen stocked with dishes, pots & pans, silverware, etc. There is an outdoor gas grill near the picnic table and a wood burning stove in the man cave/party garage. And for those occasional rainy days, there are hundreds of movies and board games in the family room.
