The SpaceWhile this space is perfect for anyone who wants a get-away--a place to relax, meditate, write, listen to birds or the chance to see a bald eagle--the unique attraction and outstanding quality here is the river. Over twenty miles accessible to boats, much more for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. Feel free to bring your own, or use the kayaks available here. In addition, the apartment is 5 miles from a boat launch that also allows overnight parking in the case you'd like to stay here AND bring your favorite water craft.
There is a gentle walk-down path to the water from your patio, and an opportunity to sit on chairs, the grass, or a small stretch of "beach" right by the water. It's well-lit and a power source is near by. The covered patio area has a table and chairs, looks out to the fieldstone fireplace (available for camp fires), and water. Patio has a 4 burner gas grill and a hibachi charcoal grill for outdoor cooking at its best!
Inside is an open and inviting main room.
One side is the designated kitchen area with a full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blender, hot plates, pots/pans/dishes, hot water kettle, toaster, and convection oven. Pantry and fridge are stocked with all the basics and much more. Dishes are washed in the bathroom--a minor inconvenience. A restaurant-style bussing tray, drying rack, etc make the system easy and efficient. If you love to cook or just want help, we can retrieve and run through our dishwasher for you.
Across from the kitchen area is a multi-purpose table with two chairs that allow you to eat inside and watch the river, or use it as a work space/desk.
View tv or the flicker of flames from an electric fireplace from the soft micro suede couch. The HDTV is a 45" flat screen with cable, netflix, a dvd player and surround sound. DVDs, games, books, and puzzles available.
The bedroom has a view of the river, too, and a queen-sized bed, ample closet/hanging space, and a bureau. For additional sleeping in the main room, there's a chaise style couch (31x71) that converts to a (believe it or not, super-comfy) twin-sized bed. A self-inflating twin mattress can be used for a fourth person.
The bathroom includes a tiled, dual head rain shower (no tub), linen closet, and as mentioned, a sink area that easily converts from bathroom needs to a kitchen sink. Around the corner is a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board.
Radiant floor heating through-out the apartment, and it stays nice and cool in the summers. A fan is also provided. Bedroom is air-conditioned in the summer. Modern ventilation system throughout home keeps air super clean and fresh. Guest AccessThe apartment is on the lower level of the house, and has it's own keyed entry door facing the river. Your privacy is important (We live above in the upper levels and access the house from the road side.) You have your own patio space, and the lawn/water path is shared. Feel free to come and go as you please. Interaction with GuestsMost likely, we will be around when you are and available for questions, concerns, assistance. Some people enjoy socializing, others like autonomy, and we take our cues from you! Most importantly, we want you to feel like the place/space is yours, and unfettered by urban noise and chatter.
Check-in time is flexible as long as you don't mind letting yourself in. We can make arrangements that work best for you.
On occasion, we may not be on site during check-in or the duration of your stay, and will provide instruction ahead of time. I'm always available via text or call for any questions or concerns you might have. The NeighborhoodThe Odyssey is on state-maintained (very useful in the winter) Route 5, Connecticut River Road, which is home to several small organic vegetable farms and farm stands, a few dairy cows, maple syrup producers, a Christmas tree farm, and mostly year-round inhabitants. This 10-mile stretch of road connects the towns of Windsor, Weathersfield, and Springfield.
Within 10 minutes is a small grocery store, several local restaurants, state parks, and Mount Ascutney. Okemo ski resort is 35 minutes away. Dartmouth/Hanover is 40 minutes away. Getting AroundAmtrak station in Windsor, VT about 7 miles away. Dartmouth Coach bus line in Lebanon, NH. Airport in Lebanon, NH, with car rental available. It would take some coordination around schedules, but reach out if you are interested in coming via public transportation versus car. I may be able to be your Uber driver for a reasonable fee. Other Things to NoteSome basic recreation items are provided--bug spray, sunscreen, beach chairs, life vests--though you will want to consider bringing your own favorite flavors of such items, in a addition to water shoes/crocs. For winter recreation, 2 pairs of snowshoes are available.
Companion animals are considered additional guests. When you book the space, please include them in your count. For instance, if there are two people and two dogs, you are four guests total.
