The Space35 minutes to Okemo (downhill/cross-country/snowboarding), 10 minutes to Mount Ascutney (snowshoeing/cross-country), 30 minutes to Hanover/Dartmouth/Norwich While this space is perfect for anyone who wants a get-away--a place to relax, meditate, write, listen to birds or the chance to see a bald eagle--the unique attraction and outstanding quality here is the river. Over twenty miles accessible to boats, much more for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards. Feel free to bring your own, or use the kayaks available here. There is a gentle walk-down path to the water from your patio, and an opportunity to sit on chairs, the grass, or a small stretch of "beach" right by the water. The covered patio area includes a grill, table and chairs, looks out to the fieldstone fireplace (available for camp fires), and water. Inside is an open and inviting main room. The kitchen area has a full-size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blender, hot plates, pots/pans/dishes, hot water kettle, toaster, and convection oven. Pantry and fridge are stocked with all the basics and much more. A multi-purpose table with two chairs allow you to eat inside and watch the river, or use it as a work space/desk. View tv or the flicker of flames from an electric fireplace from the soft micro suede couch. The HDTV is a 45" flat screen with cable (including espn), netflix, a dvd player and surround sound. DVDs, games, books, and puzzles available. Phone for domestic calls. The bedroom has a view of the river, too, and a queen-sized bed, ample closet/hanging space, and a bureau. For additional sleeping in the main room, there's a chaise style couch (31x71) that converts to a (believe it or not, super-comfy) twin-sized bed. A self-inflating twin mattress can be used for a fourth person. The bathroom includes a tiled rain shower and linen closet. Around the corner is a washer and dryer, iron and ironing board. Radiant floor heating through-out the apartment, and it stays nice and cool in the summers. Bedroom is air-conditioned in the summer. Modern ventilation system throughout home keeps air super clean and fresh. Guest AccessThe apartment is on the lower level of the house, and has it's own keyed entry door facing the river. Your privacy is important (We live above in the upper levels and access the house from the road side.) You have your own patio space and "back yard." Feel free to come and go as you please. Interaction with GuestsMost likely, we will be around when you are and available for questions, concerns, assistance. Some people enjoy socializing, others like autonomy, and we take our cues from you! Most importantly, we want you to feel like the place/space is yours, and unfettered by urban noise and chatter. Check-in time is flexible as long as you don't mind letting yourself in. We can make arrangements that work best for you. On occasion, we may not be on site during check-in or the duration of your stay, and will provide instruction ahead of time. I'm always available via text or call for any questions or concerns you might have. The NeighborhoodThe Odyssey is on state-maintained (very useful in the winter) Route 5, Connecticut River Road, which is home to several small organic vegetable farms and farm stands, a few dairy cows, maple syrup producers, a Christmas tree farm, and mostly year-round inhabitants. This 10-mile stretch of road connects the towns of Windsor, Weathersfield, and Springfield. Within 10 minutes is a small grocery store, several local restaurants, bike trails, Mount Ascutney. Okemo, Dartmouth/Hanover are 35 minutes away. Getting AroundAmtrak station in Windsor, VT about 7 miles away. Airport in Lebanon, NH, with car rental available. It would take some coordination around schedules, but reach out if you are interested in coming via public transportation versus car. I may be able to be your Uber driver. Other Things to NoteSome basic recreation items are provided--bug spray, sunscreen, beach chairs, life vests--though you will want to consider bringing your own favorite flavors of such items, in a addition to water shoes/crocs. For winter recreation, 2 pairs of snowshoes are available. Companion animals are considered additional guests. When you book the space, please include them in your count. For instance, if there are two people and two dogs, you are four guests total.

Drive up the country road, over the roaring gorge of the Williams River, past farms and hillsides. Turn onto the long driveway, pass the sparkling pond. The air is fresh, the view is beautiful, and the house is comfortable. You have arrived. Let the kids run off their energy in the huge, mowed lawn, while you read that novel in the hammock or go fishing in the pond. Take a nice nature hike, cool off in the pond, throw dinner on the grill, then build a campfire, roast some marshmallows, look up at the stars. No kids? Grab a bottle of wine and some nice aged Vermont cheddar, sit in the Adirondack chairs, watch while hummingbirds come to the gardens and wait for deer to emerge from the forest. Cook a romantic meal in the well equipped kitchen, then snuggle up to a fire in the stone fireplace. Inside, with classic and antique furnishings, you'll feel right at home surrounded by the stone and wood elements, while the art stimulates your mind and spirit. This house is all that it should be inside, and more than you can imagine outside, with nature and opportunity abundant. A few recent reviews follow for your consideration: The Vermont Country Lodge: Our new favorite place 5 of 5 We booked the Vermont Country Lodge for a weekend getaway. Our goal was to spend a weekend in Vermont with a fireplace and a quiet place to write. What we arrive to was so much more than I imagined. It was dark when we arrived, maybe not the best way to get there, as the road in is narrow and bumpy, but it made for a wonderful next day. From the massive stone step at the back door, to the gorgeous stone work on the fireplace and rough-hewn wide plank floors, I was so happy not to be in a cookie cutter hotel. The walls were adorned with pieces of art, many painted by the owner, as well as unexpected touches—a fishing pole, a didgeridoo, a dream catcher. We have rented other private residences and felt as if it wasn't ours or worse, wasn't very clean, this was so different. We both felt privileged to have this special place entrusted to us. The post and beam elements and the way the cabin sits on the land communicate a sense of this place having been here for many, many years. Sitting on the front porch, swinging in the hammock and simply walking the grounds was the perfect way to unplug (that being said, the wi-fi worked like a charm). The wind moves through the leaves creating the most pleasant and calming swishing sound. The bedding was incredible, with flannel sheets and weighty duvets. The eclectic furnishings made me exclaim in delight on more than one occasion. I simply cannot say enough good things about this place. If your hope is to experience Vermont in a comfortable and memorable way, you cannot go wrong with this location. Quiet and expansive 5 of 5 Thank you for the opportunity to rent your lovely home in VT. We had an awesome and relaxing time. It's hard and expensive to travel with four kids of all different ages (18, 17, 13 and 16 mths), so your home and amenities was exactly what we needed. Enough space for each of us to have our own space, internet for the teenagers, play some badminton, relax on the porch and allow the baby to wander around the yard without the fear of him going into the street. Even though the only thing we caught in the pond was a turtle we still had fun trying. It was perfect. There are a TON of toys in the ottoman. We didn't notice them until the morning that we were leaving. I never thought to open it, I only opened when we were leaving to make sure the kids didn't put something inside and behold all the toys!
