The Space*MINIMUM TWO NIGHTS STAYS ON WEEKENDS YEAR ROUND. The name may conjure up images of Miss Havisham's crumbling mansion, but rest assured that The Dusty Victorian is very clean and well-maintained. When we first entered, it felt like walking into a dusty dream. Big and beautiful, built in 1889, the Dusty Victorian had been uninhabited for two years before we moved in. Located on a hill in the historic and picturesque stone town of St Marys, The Dusty Victorian is a fine example of a Folk Victorian villa with an Italianate influence. We have great expectations for our home and are constantly working at preserving and restoring its inherent charm. We are very proud that The Dusty Victorian is designated heritage, insuring that all her unique and original details will be protected for future generations to enjoy. Enjoy our beautiful Victorian downtown with its many shops and restaurants. Our unique Grand Trunk nature trail trestle bridge is located nearby, the Riverview Walkway, and The Loop Trail are enjoyed by all. More about the parks and trails in St Marys can be found on the town's website. The Wildwood Conservation Area, just outside St Marys, is also perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers. St Marys Golf & Country Club is one of the best public and semi-private golf course in Southern-Ontario. St Marys’ unique topography has been instrumental in creating a challenging course with the most scenic manicured grounds. Highly rated in numerous newspapers and magazine articles, it will please the most serious golfer. Always in season, St Marys has many festivals and events planned year round. St. Marys Community Players (SMCP) established in 1974, has developed into one of the premier amateur theatres in South Western Ontario. Highly engaging and entertaining, SMCP is a cultural gem envolving the community as patrons of the theatre and active participants in the production of their plays. Plan ahead and don't miss their spring and autumn productions. Of course, Stratford is just 20 minutes away with its world class theatre season, many shops, restaurants and cafes. Our Eurasian room has a queen size bed, a night table, a desk and a comfortable chair. This room comes with complementary self-serve herbal tea and filtered bottled water. During the summer months, this room has air conditioning. The walk-in closet has shelves and hanging bares. (Please see our other listing, The Dusty Victorian,St Marys-Single, for rate and pics of the single occupancy room). For a reasonable fee, both rooms can accommodate an extra person by setting up a guest bed (weight restrictions for guest bed). Shampoo and natural homemade soap are provided with fresh towels. The bathroom has a contemporary shower and antique copper bath. It's a shared bathroom for our guests only, but we rarely rent the single room so chances are you will have the bathroom to yourselves. For breakfast, we offer home baked breads and muffins, seasonal fresh fruits, cereal, coffee, tea, milk and juice. As we believe in locally grown produce, selection will vary. All is served in the formal dinning room. My husband Brian is a writer, I'm an artist and our daughter is a student. We, including our two small non-shedding dogs, will do our best to make your stay very enjoyable. If you mind animal companions, then The Dusty Victorian is not for you. *Note that the many steps leading up to our house and the bedrooms may be challenging to people with mobility issues. Those many steps can be hazardous to small children, we, regretfully, can not accept children under 10 years old. Plan ahead for the 2017 theatre season in Stratford. Looking forward to seeing you. Ample parking available. Late (after the theatre) check ins are not a problem. Should you be traveling by train and require pick-up and drop-off from the St Marys train station, we will be happy to provide this complementary service. You can do a search on The Dusty Victorian to read a blog about this house and its owners. Guest Access* Bedroom * Bathroom * Dinning room * Library * Front veranda Interaction with GuestsAlthough we are not retired, both my husband and I work from home so there's always someone to answer questions or offer suggestions. The NeighborhoodI love that our little downtown is alive and well, offering almost everything one needs. Living in a small town, nearly everything is walking distance. I love the many bridges offering picturesque views, but the antique character of St Marys, seen in its architecture, is what made me fall in love with this town. Our favourite restaurant in town is Little Red's Pub and Eatery. See the our Guidebook for many more suggestions. Getting AroundSt Marys has its own train station. No public transit to speak of, but we do have a few privately operated taxi drivers. Click on our Guidebook for phone numbers. Other Things to Note*MINIMUM TWO NIGHTS STAYS ON WEEKENDS YEAR ROUND. *We kindly ask that you be environmentally friendly and energy conscious while in our home.
