Located on the Newtown fringe with King St bars, restaurants, cafes and gym all within a brief stroll. May’s Lane and its adjoining side streets have become somewhat of an outdoor exhibition space for the who’s who of the Sydney street art scene, with the cities most highly regarded graffiti artists regularly updating the site. A suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, St. Peters is located 7 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district. In the 1870s, St Peters was an important brickmaking centre with a large brickworks on the site now known as Sydney Park, on the corner of Mitchell Road (now Sydney Park Road) and the Princes Highway, close to St Peters railway station. The brickworks closed after World War II and for most of the 1960s and 1970s laid dormant. In the 1980's, Sydney Park was created on the site. The area was covered, landscaped and revegetated so that several large artificial hills were created with sweeping views south to Botany Bay and north to the city. Four towering chimneys that carried exhaust from the brick kilns remain standing and have been incorporated into the Sydney Park site along with some of the kilns and various pieces of large brickworks machinery. The remains of the brickworks were heritage-listed. The SpaceA gorgeous, architecturally designed warehouse. Three 'pod' rooms divide and define the space, creating a flow of private and public environments. The main bedroom is clad with reclaimed timbers on the outside, while a recycled glass shopfront with bespoke timber blinds for privacy comprises one whole wall. The interior of the main bedroom is clean white with a queen size natural-wool futon. The second bedroom is our daughter's bedroom. With treated fibre-cement sheeting on the outside the interior is warm exposed ply walls and furniture punctuated by coloured graphics. It includes a full size single bed with a very high quality mattress. The third 'pod'/room is enclosed by only two walls is the cozy TV lounge. The rest of the space includes a large dining area with dining table to sit 6 easily (has seated 10 at a pinch). A large double lounge with generous seating - two x 4 seater sofas, an armchair that makes you feel like an evil ruler of the universe and many many throw cushions to lounge about on. The kitchen is expansive with an industrial feel, gas cooking and dishwasher. The bathroom is beautifully industrial and well appointed. A pleasure to steam in the oversized shower or deep iron-cast bathtub. The main entrance area is perhaps the most unusual - a 4x4 mtr play area complete with picket fence and fluffy green carpet - this is our little indoor paddock where our daughter loves to let her imagination run wild... The entire house is populated by an eclectic collection and surprising delights we've collected over the years. If you have any troubles during your stay, just let us know and we (or our friend) will be there to help you resolve it - otherwise just feel at home. The NeighborhoodThe neighbourhood is an awesome mix of industrial, creative, families - old and young. A small park a minute down the road has a little playground and is where everyone walks the dogs and gets the goss. Up the road (3 min) is a sweet little cafe (Velvet Garage) that serves yummy food and the best banana bread in the southern hemisphere. Venture further afield (1 more minute) onto May street for arguably the best roast in Sydney - the little Marionette roasts their coffee out the back and open to the public between 7am-11am weekdays. The huge expanse of sydney park is 5 minutes walk from home as well. Go for a run or a stroll with city views. enjoy the very large playground area or the OK coffee (yes the coffee here is just OK - maybe better to go for a paddle pop) at a little cafe in the heart of the park. Minutes walk up the road is the Newtown drag - FULL of cafes, restaurants, bars, pubs, shops - you would be excused for believing that Newtowners all live a constant life of leisure for the populated cafes at any time of day. South King street in particular is a locals haunt with new little cafes opening all the time. Getting Around Public transport is literally at your door. Walk 5 minutes up the road to St. Peters train station which is on the city circle (3 stops to Central) or take the first right onto princess highway (literally 2 minutes walk) to catch bus 422 all the way through Newtown and the entire length of the city down to circular quay. To get to the beach walk down to King street and catch the 370 bus - all the way to coogee beach and the start of the coogee 2 bondi coastal walk (a must for first time in Sydney) Other Things to NoteOur place is mainly available on weekends (the rest of the time we live here) so we don't have a long history / reviews for it but please do have a look at our other listing to see how guests have enjoyed the experience staying/interacting with us. We are happy to discuss special fees for a longer stays. Please don't hesitate to contact us.

The SpaceLarge comfortable and homely house with two small gardens and plenty of light. Guest AccessPlenty of entertainment, tv, music and HIgh speed internet. Interaction with GuestsI will be away on holiday but contactable on phone or email. I can have someone meet guests and show them around the house. The NeighborhoodThe heartland of Sydney’s vibrant bohemian culture, the Newtown Precinct is an eclectic mix of alternative cultures, ethnicity, sexuality and lifestyles. What do people love about Newtown Precinct? Our famous King Street, all the way from Broadway to St Peters? Erskineville village and Enmore's entertainment strip? Our Retail Neighbourhoods and Creative Quarters, our Pocket Precincts, Parks and Playgrounds? Our restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, retail stores, book shops, fashion designers and food shops? Our festivals, entertainment, creative culture and street life? All of these for sure, but overwhelmingly its spirit of acceptance and tolerance which has produced a unique culture in Sydney and become a magnet for visitors, tourists and other Sydney-siders. Getting AroundYep, plenty of buses going everywhere in Sydney and two train stations 5 minutes walk from the house. Other Things to NoteI'm hoping to rent it to a single group for the period of time 23rd Dec to 8th of JAnuary but I'm open to renting it to a few groups. Preference will be to one group. I rented the house last Christmas to two families who seemed to enjoy their stay in Sydney. There were some questions about the cleanliness of the house which surprised me and my friend who looked after the house while I was away. The house will be cleaned before I go on holiday but if your expecting an immaculate hotel room then its probably best to book a hotel not a house through Airbnb. It was the first time for both families using Airbnb and I'm not sure what their expectations were. Look at the photo's of the house closely if you are interested, they reflect perfectly what to expect when you arrive. At the time last year we had limited internet with a 3G USB stick and I made it clear to use no more than 4gb of data each. Both families far exceeded that and there was a very large internet bill to deal with. We negotiated a shared price but possibly this lead to some misgivings. Either way the house now has a healthy ADSL2 connection and a download limit of 80Gb. More than enough. Cheers, Jake

The SpaceThe room comfortably fits 2 people, in one bed. Your room will be made up with fresh towels and linen and coffee, tea and snacks such as toast and fruit are freely available (please let me know if you need special ingredients). We are a University tutor and potter, and my 21yo son, a musician studying jazz performance at University and our Jack Russell, Sunny who loves visitors. We're easygoing and love to travel and when we're not travelling we see live music of all kinds, go to the cinema and just enjoy all that Sydney has to offer and our fabulous neighbourhood with its great shopping, bars, venues, parks and restaurants. The house is in a quiet street but just minutes from trains and buses to everywhere, including the beach. There are beautiful parks and an indoor pool and gym 10 minutes walk away and more cafes, restaurants of all kinds and prices and hip bars and pubs than you could ever visit, even if you stayed a year. Guest AccessShare our sitting room with TV, Playstation and stereo with great music collection, our bathroom, kitchen and shady backyard. There's free wifi, endless hot water and space to hang out without getting under eachother's feet. Our house is your house! Interaction with GuestsWe all have busy lives, so we're around to hang out or even to go out sometimes, and at others you'll have the place to yourself, not that you'll be home much as there is so much to do in Sydney and Newtown. Between us we have our fingers on the pulse of what's going on around town, especially music and if we can't help you find things to do and places to go, we'll know someone who can. Sunny is a sweet dog, if a little over enthusiastic and noisy at times, she does give great doggy kisses though and she's always pleased to see you. The NeighborhoodNewtown and the Inner West of Sydney is one of the best neighbourhoods in the world (really). It's friendly, cosmopolitan, multicultural, tolerant and colourful. There is food from all nations, farmers and craft markets, small bars, live music, drag shows, pubs, craft beer, green parks - pretty much everything except beaches, and they're only a bus ride away. It's a great area to walk around, full of charming houses, interesting people, frangipani, jasmine and eucalyptus trees Getting AroundWe're only 5-10 minutes walk from 2 train stations and the bus stops at the top of our street. The city and Circular Quay is 15 minutes on the train and the beach is a bus ride. We're a 15 minute cab ride (about $35), or catch the train from the airport. If you're driving we have free street parking and all the major routes through and out of Sydney are easily accessible. Other Things to NoteNote that we do have a small indoor dog, she's adorable and very friendly but she does shed hair and sometimes she's a bit noisy. Although I vacuum most days and we have wooden floors, I'd hesitate to recommend the house to those with allergies or who are very asthmatic. Please do not book this room if you are afraid of dogs, squealing and flapping will make her bark at you and we can't accommodate demands to keep her out of your way. We are in Sydney and hence you'll find there are mosquitoes outside and occasionally the odd bug or cockroach might find its nasty way in. It's an oldish house and we keep it spotless, but unfortunately life in this great city does come with a few creepy friends! One last thing - we are under a flight path and on some days (random) the planes are quite low and noisy. We don't really notice them, but they may wake you early in the morning, so if you're an extremely light sleeper or one who needs absolute silence perhaps this won't be your first choice.

The SpaceThe space will comfortably accommodate two people in a large queen sized bed but if you can stand sharing an en suite and living space with another there is also a king single bed allowing for 3 guests in total (so long as two of them are REAL close friends...) BE AWARE - THERE IS ONLY A 50 LITRE HOT WATER SYSTEM - ONLY ENOUGH FOR 1 OR 2 PEOPLE TO HAVE CONSECUTIVE SHOWERS. MORE THAN THAT YOU MAY NEED TO WAIT FOR THE SYSTEM TO HEAT UP AGAIN BEFORE THE NEXT GUEST GETS A TUB. Our home is a sprawling quirkily evolving eclectic canvas; part tropical greenhouse and jungle, part improvisation workshop, part art studio, all of a slightly anarchic constantly changing composition. (We would never consider shopping at Ikea or watching any TV program involving adversarial reality and/or bogan house make overs, although we're always enthralled and inspired by Kevin McCloud and Grand Designs.) If you insist on lovely suburban tidy townness, neatly trimmed herbaceous borders, minimalist generic and tediously `nice` hotel decor, or twee boutique pensions this may not be the place for you, but then again you probably should be reconsidering staying in and about Newtown on that criteria. We don't iron our pillow cases or sheets (we have better things to do with our lives) so you'll need to be happy slepping on somewhat crinkly but nevertheless fresh and clean manchester. Frequently asked Q&As... • I want a room with en-suite... ° You're in luck - this studio cabin has en suite bathroom and toilet facilities that you'll only have to share with who ever you bring along. • Is breakfast provided? ° Not as such but you're welcome to help yourself to the abundance of mangoes, bananas and strawberries growing wildly in the garden (in season), and when the vege garden is up and running you can avail yourself of whatever fresh produce is in season. • I have electrical appliances with overseas plugs... ° Overseas power adapters are provided in the room. • I'd like to check in early / check out late... ° Unfortunately you'll have to take the luck of the draw - the studio is normally more or less fully booked so it is almost a certainty there will be incoming / outgoing guests on the day in question. If they elect to check out early / arrive late (and let me know in advance) there may be some leeway, however if they decide to be right on the designated time then it will not be possible to accommodate your request. Please bear in mind it's not unlikely they may have made exactly the same request as yourself. • I'm particularly anxious / fastidious about parking / my car... ° There is free 2 hour parking on the street outside 8:30 am (08:30) to 6:00 pm (18:00) Monday to Friday - effectively you only need to be aware of it between 10:30 am (10:30) and 4.00 pm (16:00) weekdays. It is rarely checked, and only with easily brushed off chalk tyre markings. The vast majority of our motorised guest find this the simplest and most efficient option - quick to park, quick to leave and no issues with reversing off /into the street while avoiding traffic / fences / pedestrians / animals / buildings / our hard won flower beds (see below). If you really need to park off street then we can sort to have you park in our driveway, however as it would be less than 2 metres difference away across the unfenced property line it is moot whether there would be any real or practical advantage for the more security anxious. We will ask you to take particular car in parking your vehicle as close to the house as possible as you will want to leave as much wide room for your own access down the driveway, and we will get a bit stroppy if you oafishly damage our beautiful garden beds and blossoming plants by inconsiderate trampling or tossing about of luggage. (Don't even get us started on those incompetents behind the wheel who somehow manage drive over them.) • The ceiling needs painting, and the shower screen is mouldy... ° We tried painting the ceiling, we really did - gallons of paint everywhere, lots of swearing, blisters and tears - before we learnt the hard way what every professional painter knows - so called popcorn ceilings are the work of the devil and impossible to paint; they crumble, absorb all moisture and pigment without a trace like the Sahara, and really nothing short of a fire brigade sized industrial spray paint rig will make any sort of aesthetic impact. As soon as we can get a good week clear (a day to paint, a few more to let the fumes dissipate) we will have just that sort of crack at it , but, for better worse, the studio has more or less been fully booked from the get go so we haven't yet had a chance. Yeah, the shower door... Sorry about that - tried our utmost to clean it but unfortunately the mongrel mould has crept through a crack inside the laminated glass plates and has made a home between them where we and endless baths of bleach cannot get at the cowardly stuff. The glass panels are a custom size so none of the replacement doors we've been able to source will fit - but plans are afoot to get clean new laminated replacements manufactured. Guest AccessMake yourself at home in the spacious yard - vegetable gardens taking shape from which you should be able to pick fresh produce for your cooking. Free WiFi access, fresh mangoes, bananas, tomatoes and strawberries from the garden (in season), washing machine, worm farm... Mi casa es su casa. Interaction with GuestsInteract or not as much as you feel comfortable - the granny flat is yours alone while I'm likely to be pottering about in the garden. Feel free to grab me if you want some local advice or history or philosophical discussions - similarly if you're here for a bit of a look around maybe I can lend a bit of a hand. Apart from that I can be as scarce or handy as you feel appropriate. The NeighborhoodIf you insist on lovely suburban tidy townness, neatly trimmed herbaceous borders, minimalist generic and tediously `nice` hotel decor, or twee boutique pensions this may not be the place for you, but then again you probably should be reconsidering staying in and about Newtown on that criteria. Our fantastically artistic and creative surrounds (Newtown / Marrickville / Enmore / St Peters) are one of the funkiest hubs of Australia, a rare inner city island resounding with alternative anti-gentrification energy and and sans bourgeoisie vitality - we live here because we love the community and our home is emblematic of that. Getting AroundShort stroll to St Peters railway station - just a couple of stops to the CBD or the airport (but a short taxi ride may be cheaper). King Street Newtown is close with all its buses. If you're a bit of walker town is not very far away or you're welcome to use one of the free bicycles. Other Things to NoteIf you are travelling with children please include them in the total number of guests of your booking - please bear in mind the maximum occupancy is 3 guests irrespective of age. Please don't send me an enquiry or booking for 2 guests saying something like... `there'll just be my partner and I PLUS my [ X quantity ] child (or children)...`

The NeighborhoodST PETERS St Peters was named by its association with St Peters Anglican Church, which was consecrated in 1838. It has been claimed that St Peters Anglican Church was the first church built in Australia using non convict labour. St Peters was described in the 1840s as one of the most fashionable and aristocratic suburbs of Sydney. In the 1870s it was an important brickmaking centre. St Peters was a separate municipality from 1871 to 1949. The town hall in Unwins Bridge Road was built in 1927. The heartland of Sydney’s vibrant bohemian culture, the Newtown Precinct is an eclectic mix of alternative cultures, ethnicity, sexuality and lifestyles. Come and explore our Precinct; learn why we love it and enjoy the most eclectic and unique entertainment, shopping, eating, drinking and creative expression in Sydney. Just 5 - 10 mins walk away. Sydney parkland and wetlands also just 5 mins walk away. Getting AroundSt Peters Station 10 mins walk, then 2 stops and 8 mins train to central station. Sydney airport 15 mins by taxi. Built in the 1880s this home was originally occupied by a local family who worked in the nearby brick yards - what is now Sydney Park, where you can see some of the remains of the kilns and equipment from the time. The house is a sweet 2 bedroom cottage with a large garden area. It's not perfect, but it's clean and homely. Your bedroom is the main bedroom, which has a comfortable queen size bed and drawers available for you to put your clothes away. Amy is a counsellor and social worker who works with homeless youth and the LGBTQI+ community. Guest AccessGuests have the full run of the house, which includes a front and back veranda areas, gardens, the main bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom. We share the common areas. There is free street parking available. Interaction with GuestsIt's a small house so we'll definitely run into each other! But I'm happy to stay out of your way, or get more involved in your stay. It's completely up to you. The NeighborhoodSt Peters is just a short hop to all the funky suburbs of Sydney's Inner West like Newtown and Surry Hills and also has a few hidden gems of its own. The local graffiti walls of May Lane, Sydney Park, local Micro Brewery and Australia's first Urban Axe Throwing Centre are all worth finding. There are more cafes and art pieces going up every single day here, so it's a great base to explore from. Getting AroundPublic transport links are excellent here and both the bus and train stops are only a couple of minutes walk away. South Newtown is only 5 minutes walk up the road. The city takes 10 minutes on the train. The airport is also very close and takes 10 minutes to drive outside of peak hour. Taxis are frequent, and easy to flag or book. There is also a nearby bus which takes you to Coogee Beach, or you can get a train to Bondi Junction and go from there. Other Things to NoteI've used airbnb and surfed on couches a lot myself while travelling. Let me know if there's anything else I can do!

The SpaceThe space will comfortably accommodate two people in a large queen sized bed but if you can stand sharing an en suite with others we can move in another bunk to make sleeping arrangements for 3 people (so long as two of the are REAL close friends...) BE AWARE - THERE IS ONLY A 50 LITRE HOT WATER SYSTEM - ONLY ENOUGH FOR 1 OR 2 PEOPLE TO HAVE CONSECUTIVE SHOWERS. IF THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO STAYING YOU WILL NEED TO WAIT FOR THE SYSTEM TO HEAT UP AGAIN BEFORE SHOWERING. Guest AccessMake yourself at home in the spacious yard - vegetable gardens taking shape from which you should be able to pick fresh produce for your cooking. Free WiFi access, fresh mangoes, bananas, tomatoes and strawberries from the garden (in season), washing machine, dryer, a small home exercise gym somewhere, worm farm... Please don't send me an enquiry or booking for 2 guests saying something like `there'll just be my partner and I and the 2 (or more) children...`

The SpaceWelcome to the Inner-West dream! A fantastic open plan converted warehouse space, with lots of original character alongside modern conveniences like hi-speed wifi, 55" flatscreen, wireless sound system, and fully set up kitchen with industrial oven. The bedroom, living space, huge work desk and kitchen all exist in the one 150m2 space, with concrete floors and raised wooden platforms. Beautiful outside bathroom with rain shower and skylight - *probably* the best shower in Sydney. The space is also a functional photography studio, so there is a white cyc wall in one corner - great for projecting movies onto, but otherwise not of much relevance for your stay. Guest AccessWe will arrange for a key drop either in person or through a key safe system, depending on what your travel arrangements are. There is a separate space upstairs - fully self contained, but with a shared doorway to the building - that may be occupied during your stay (with long term renters, not airbnb guests). There is still total privacy, and there is no need for our upstairs friends to ever enter your downstairs home. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available for contact via email/phone, but generally we won't be able to meet you. If you need any assistance on the ground, our friends in the upstairs apartment will be able to help you out and answer any questions you might have. The NeighborhoodLess than 5 minutes walk to Newtown's famous King St, home of too many fantastic cafes, restaurants and bars to name. For those in need of a caffeine hit first thing, the Little Marionette roasters is directly across the road, serving up the best coffee in Newtown with lots of smiles. (Mon-Fri only) Newtown is also the undisputed queen of second hand/antique shops in inner Sydney, so it's perfect for having a leisurely afternoon of bargain rummaging. We're at the South end of King St, which is much quieter than the city end, but still vibrant and full of life. Sydney Park (home of the iconic smoke stacks) is just 200m away, so you have easy access to its rolling hills, cycle paths and bbq/picnic areas, plus playgrounds for the littlies. Getting Around3 min walk to St Peters train station, which is on the city circle line with trains every 10 mins during peak times. Only 2 stops from Central! A 10-15 min cab ride from the airport (depending on traffic), so its super easy to access if you're flying in/out. Other Things to NoteThis is a true converted warehouse, with many of the quirks and personality that come with this kind of building. Whilst the space is comfortable, clean and beautifully furnished, it's important to note that this is not five star living. Specifically, there is no heating or cooling system - we provide plenty of bedding and a portable heater when its a bit cooler, and a large fan when it heats up - but the size of the space unfortunately means that anything else is impractical. So, if its particularly hot or particularly cold during your stay, you can expect to feel it. Aesthetically, the building retains most of its original structures - heavy wooden beams, concrete floors, cracked brick walls, uneven paint jobs etc. We absolutely love this, but it's definitely not for everyone so please take this into account when considering your booking.

I'm looking into getting and airbnb photographer to take new photos. If you would like current photos, I can send some across.
