Guest AccessThe seasonal salt water pool and year-round hot tub are are a short walk away. Guests can access the pool and hot tub by following the Woods Walk Trail or the grassy road through the secluded natural woodland. The pool area is surrounded by a high tensile fence with latching and chained gates. In the interest of safety we ask that the gates remained closed and latched at all times. There is no lifeguard on duty so swimming and tubbing is at your own risk. Please no running, diving, food or glass in the enclosure. Do not add anything to the water in the hot tub such as oils and herbs. They will cloud the water and clog the filters. We then have to empty the tub, clean it and restart it which takes a day. NATURE TRAIL A well marked two mile trail (moderate) encircles the open pastures and woods around Cair Paravel. We are located close to Shenandoah National Park and you may encounter wildlife similar to that in the park. The SpaceMulberry Spring dates back to Colonial Virginia. The mainhouse is a “two over two” style farmhouse built on hand-hewn heart pine beams over a dry-laid foundation. The house was slated for demolition in the 1950's. Fortunately, a retired military couple, who appreciated its significance, bought it and lovingly invested in major restorations. Two subsequent owners continued the restoration process both to the house and property. Numerous fruit trees were planted and a local stonemason was hired to rebuild the rock foundations and the 200-year old stone walls. The layout of the house is spacious and comfortable. The first floor consists of a living room, dining room, library/TV room, fully equipped eat-in kitchen, laundry room, and full bath with a shower. There are two staircases to access the second floor. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and one full bath. The bath has a classic claw-foot tub equipped with a hand-held shower. For safety and structural reasons guest should not venture out onto the porch upstairs. Attics are also off limits. Given the house's age settling has occurred, most noticeably in the back addition, resulting in a stairway that is not level. *Note: this structure is in a semi-rural area. Insects may make their way in despite our best efforts. If you are allergic or sensitive, then consider looking elsewhere. Your comfort is important to us. The SpaceThe Carriage House has a full modern kitchen with everything you need to prepare a beautiful meal, or just warm up a few snacks. The Full bath has a 4ft tiled shower and heated floors. There is a queen bed in the main living area.. The space accommodates 2 very comfortably, but can serve up to 4 people if you open up the sofa bed (firm but functional) in the alcove.
