The SpaceOur space includes two bedrooms (beds are Queen and Full) as well as a large media room with a fold-out couch bed (Queen). Amenities include a private bathroom, use of our kitchen, and all the perks of our media room (see pictures!). We're excited to welcome you to Palo Alto! We hope that we can make your experience so fantastic that you love it here as much as we do. Our space is ideal for a family, couple, or single, because access to the main bedroom is through the second bedroom. Less than a 15 minute walk from the restaurants and shops of both Town and Country Village and the California Avenue, our home is nestled between in the family-friendly Southgate neighborhood, a quiet but central Palo Alto location. Town and Country has several restaurants we recommend, including Howie's Pizza, Lulu's Taqueria, Cheese House sandwich shop, and Mayfield Bakery and Cafe. It also has a Trader Joe's, Peet's, Jamba Juice, and CVS. On California Avenue, you can find Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels, our favorite bagel shop, as well as the Palo Alto Sol Mexican restaurant, and Joanie's Cafe, a fantastic breakfast option. Also on California Avenue are several unique shops and a Molly Stones grocery store. The closest Starbucks is only blocks from our home, on El Camino Real. Also near us on El Camino is Sundance the Steakhouse, a Palo Alto classic. Stanford is just across the street from us, and if you're looking to explore a city, the Cal Train station only a 15 minute walk from our house can get you to either San Francisco or San Jose very quickly. Whether or not you bring the kids, you may want to take advantage of the recreational opportunities of Peers Park, only three blocks from our house. The park features two tennis courts, a basketball court, swings, two play structures, picnic tables, and plenty of open grass field. We also offer a strong wireless Internet connection, and plenty of parking space in front of the house. Thanks for checking out our home! Please let us know if we can answer any questions or do anything at all to help you have the best stay possible. Property Highlights: -2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and fold out couch in the media room -Fully equipped kitchen for all of your cooking needs -Electric cooktop stove -Projector screen in basement with surround sound and ability to show television, Netflix, or DVD/Blu-ray -Lovely tile patio in backyard -Hot tub nestled beside our citrus trees in the tranquil backyard, great for stargazing at night -All of the features of the downstairs media room, including projector screen, foosball table, and dart board -Kitchen (just let us know when you plan to use it so we can make it available!) -Backyard patio, teak dinner table, reading chairs and hot tub Please enjoy our basement, backyard, and kitchen, but avoid exploring our bedrooms (on the main level and upstairs). Because this is our home, we may be occupying the main floor and upstairs portion of the house while you are visiting. We are happy to share our home with you, and you will certainly have plenty of space to yourself, but please be prepared to coexist with us. Here is a list of our favorite places nearby: Restaurants: -Reposado: Upscale Mexican (email hidden) -Evvia: Out of this world Greek — the best restaurant in Palo Alto -Izzy's Brooklyn Bagels: a great breakfast choice if you are in a hurry -Joanie's Cafe: fantastic cafe-style breakfast or brunch if you have more time (be warned: there is usually a bit of a wait list, but it is worth it) -Coupa Café: A favorite for local bootstrapping entrepreneurs; good coffee, nice people, free wifi; you can work there for hours and you'll never be asked to leave Other Stuff: -Whole Foods: Local, organic, groceries and fresh juice (Emerson & High) -Trader Joes: Cheaper than Whole Foods and great for (mostly) frozen and packaged foods -Watercourse Way: Private hot tubs and saunas, massages -Farmers Market: Downtown every Saturday, California Avenue every Sunday If you need to get to San Francisco or San Jose, CalTrain is a good option. Otherwise, driving a car is your best choice. There is very limited public transportation in the area. The SpaceNestle into our cozy, private cottage with room to sleep 2-3 (possibly 4 by special request). Full kitchen, tasteful decor, private garden, ample parking. (1 bike included) Located In College Terrace: safe & charming neighborhood, low traffic, quiet. Two blocks from Stanford. This is about as close as you can possibly get to Stanford campus without actually living on campus. Stays cool because of all the greenery around the cottage. The house can comfortably fit three people (2 on the queen bed and 1 on the full futon in the living room). A fourth person can sometimes be accommodated by request. NOTE: It's a "junior bedroom" which, means the bedroom is separated from the living room by a curtain. The curtain can be drawn for complete visual separation and privacy, but there is no wall separating it from the living room. Sound will carry from one space to the other. Guest AccessThe cottage is all yours. You're welcome to use the 27" iMac which also doubles as our TV (we only watch streaming content). Wifi is always available for your use. Washer and Dryer are in a closet space in the carport. Feel free to use them. Full range of kitchen appliances available. Feel free to buy and cook your own meals here. Interaction with GuestsWe make arrangements to get you into the cottage and we try to always be available by phone to resolve questions or concerns you may have. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is incredibly charming. Tree-lined, green, full of flowers, and unique little homes. It's absolutely worth wandering the neighborhood and seeing all the beautiful homes and cottages tucked in next to each other. Getting AroundNearby, free (and frequent) shuttle to anywhere on Stanford campus. 4-min bike-ride to California Ave. Caltrain station, restaurants, grocery & shops. BIKING: Fastest way to get around Stanford (8-minutes to center of campus). Also fastest way to get to the commercial part of California Ave. for Caltrain, shops, and restaurants (4-min by bike). University Ave. and the rest of downtown is a 15-min bike ride through Stanford to the other side of campus. WALKING/PUBLIC TRANSPO: Going to campus by foot is very easy. Walk two blocks to the free shuttle stop at the intersection of Bowdoin and Pine Hill. It's only a a five-minute walk. Take the "C" shuttle that winds through campus. Shuttles pass every 15 min during peak hours and every 30 min during slow hours. You can walk to Cal Ave. Caltrain station in about 15 min. DRIVING: Parking for one vehicle in carport. Plenty of street parking (but parking time limits exist). 6-min drive to University Ave and downtown Palo Alto. BIKE USE: Helmets are available for your use. Be certain that you use the provided bike locks to lock up your bike at home and around town/campus. Bike theft is quite common if you present an unlocked target. Technically you can be ticketed for riding at night without attachable bike lights. I've seen it happen several times. Other Things to NoteStanford Campus is an easy bike ride away and if you are visiting you should absolutely cruise around the large and amazing campus. You'll find something interesting at every turn. Also the free Cantor Art Center Museum is not to be missed. Rodin sculptures abound! For a little exercise you shouldn't miss the popular Stanford Dish Hiking trail just a few minutes away. Within easy running, biking or driving distance. The commercial part of nearby California Ave is quieter and less pretentious than the busier University Ave across campus. Cal Ave is also home to our two favorite restaurants in town: Palo Alto Sol (Mexican), and La Bodeguita (Cuban).
