A sunny family house in Steep with large garden (third of an acre), wonderful views of both the Ashford Hangers and the South Downs and within cycling distance of Petersfield (just over 2 miles) and some good pubs.
Porch with storage for boots and coats etc; welcoming entrance hall; playroom/snug with TV and sofa/bed; kitchen/diner with gas/electric oven, microwave, fridge etc and table to suit 8 or, when extended, 12; shower/loo/utility room with washing machine and tumble drier; steps from front hall down to back entrance hall with good piano and door to sitting room with open fire, flatscreen TV and DVD player; CD/tape/record player and lovely views over the garden and fields.
Large pretty garden on 3 levels with trampoline, ping pong, football net, croquet, bbq, fruit trees,lawn, roses, herbaceous border, chickens in a run (chicken care optional).
Upstairs to a light landing with study/desk area, family bathroom and 3 available (bed)rooms ; either 1 kingsize and 2 doubles or 1 kingsize, 1 double and 1 single.
The room with kingsize bed has views over the garden and the fields and woods beyond and access up 2 steps into the family bathroom. The bathroom has another door onto a small landing where there are two other bedrooms; one double with vanity area and dual aspect views to both the Hangers and the South Downs and 1 single with views to the Hangers or another double with sink and views to the Hangers.
Fabulous walking and cycling from the front door (we are near both the South Downs Way and the Hangers Way among many other trails) and Petersfield, with its train station, good choice of restaurants, wine bars and pubs, twice-weekly market and some quirky shops is 2.2 miles away. A five-minute drive or a quick walk takes you to The Harrow Inn, one of the least spoilt and most atmospheric country pubs in Britain - and The Cricketers Inn, a friendly gastro-pub, is an easy 400 metre walk down the lane - with more good and interesting pubs nearby south, north, east and west!
Bedales School is within walking distance and Steep has been home to Edward Thomas (who was inspired by and wrote most of his poems about Steep and the surrounding countryside), Alec Guinness and John Wyndham. The renowned Edward Barnsley wood workshop is also nearby, in Froxfield.
Within 19 miles of Goodwood (renowned for it's Festival of Speed, Revival Festival and horse racing) and the historic cities of Chichester and Winchester and Portsmouth with its Historic Dockyard, good shopping at Gunwharf Quays and cross-channel and IOW ferries. Alresford, with its pretty river and watercress beds and Festival is 20 minutes drive and Jane Austens house at Chawton, is only 8 miles. The Witterings, with their miles of sandy beaches is a 45 minute drive - or you can get a train to Chichester and cycle to the coast.
Five mins drive to Petersfield station which is one hour from London Waterloo mainline railway station and 48.7 and 61 miles from London Heathrow and Gatwick airports respectively. Southampton airport is approx 33 miles, an easy 30 minute drive.
WiFi internet access. Cycle storage available - and bicycles available to borrow. Parking in drive or on lane. Our own free range chickens provide eggs for the full English Breakfast you may want.
Petersfield also has a really good, public, heated, open-air swimming pool open from April till mid September and there are public tennis courts in Petersfield. It may also be possible to join Steep Tennis Club - an easy 2 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride away - as a temporary member.
A close neighbour would be on hand to welcome you to the house, answer any queries you may have during your stay and then check you out on departure.
