On the Washington side of the Columbia River, Riverglen is one of the only waterfront homes within the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. Riverglen has more than 200 feet of shoreline with coves and two rocky beaches (the larger of which is a perfect launch site for windsurfing and kiteboarding). You approach this home down a quarter-mile long lane that winds through tall firs and cedars. At the end of the lane is a parking area which is separated from the home by railroad tracks. [Because there are no nearby crossings, passing trains do not sound their horns, and a thick grove of trees helps make the sound barely noticeable.] A custom-built, steel footbridge will carry you over the tracks, and carts are kept at the parking area to help carry your things. Note: The bridge is wide, very safe and easy to negotiate, but the slope may challenge those with limited strength or breath (see photos). Riverglen's wraparound porch is just steps from the beaches, and from either entrance, beautiful hardwood floors lead you through the house and compliment the massive beams, creating a warm, inviting feel. The Greatroom's wraparound windows let you enjoy a 180-degree River view, and the stone, wood-burning fireplace will welcome you back from your day's adventures. An eating bar separates the complete cook's kitchen from the dining area which seats six. The main floor Master Suite offers a comfortable queen bed and has a walk-in closet. Its full bath is tiled in slate and has an inviting tub with shower, double sinks and a picture window. Washer and dryer are just across the hall, along with outdoor cushions and beach towels. Upstairs a large, welcoming sitting room holds a nice selection of games and some cozy spots to curl up and read or catch a nap. There's also a DVD (and VCR!) player with a fine collection of DVDs and some vintage VCR movies to browse through. You may want to totally unplug and read a book, too! A cozy bedroom down the hall has a full bed and French doors that open onto a private, River-view deck. The third bedroom features a stunning view from its large picture window. Here you'll find two twin daybeds and a large executive desk, complete with wireless keyboard and a vintage leather chair. Write the next great American novel, or just gaze at the Gorge cliffs and sparkling River below! These bedrooms share an elegant, slate-tiled bath with walk-in shower and deep, step-up soaking tub. The picture window here offers a lovely western view of the Gorge with sunsets that turn the River crimson. But you won't want to just LOOK at the view -- get out in it!! Just out the back door to the left, a private beach is just steps away (it's rocky, so water shoes or sneakers are a must). To the right is a path that leads to a little cove with a small beach, and in between are gorge-eous, rocky outcroppings. The bigger beach has straight, unobstructed access to the river -- great for launching your kiteboard or whatever else you fly on [but please no motorized sports] You'll be a few miles west of the crowds that choose Hood River vacation rentals, and enjoy the same famous, spectacular Gorge winds. Of course, the view to the cliffs across the river might distract you, so go ahead and let the magic of this place take over! Roam the wooded, 6-acre grounds, but watch out for poison oak (info in the house notes). Also, please be sure and keep your dog leashed whenever outside; the creek on the east side of the property is an active salmon spawning ground. If you venture off the property, the town of Stevenson is less than 2 miles west, and the road to Carson (and on to the woodlands and waterfalls of the vast Gifford Pinchot National Forest) is at the flashing light. Head east to the Hood River bridge for all the sights on the Oregon side of the River, or go on out to Eastern Washington's celebrated wine country! The Columbia Gorge Appellation is one of 15 different regions, all producing award-winning wines, and supporting an active and growing group of outstanding wineries. Before you get there, stop off at Maryhill! This turn-of-the-twentieth-century mansion holds several interesting collections in its museum, and is also the site of Maryhill Winery. Its location on top of a high bluff gives it jaw-dropping views in all directions - take lots of pictures! Whatever you do, you'll want to be back in time for the glorious sunset -- toast your day and plan tomorrow's adventures. There's so much to do in the area, it won't be an easy choice - but you can't go wrong at Riverglen; it's a little slice of heaven! Additional amenities include: washer / dryer. Casual yet sophisticated, this home's four bedrooms and 3 baths make it a great choice for a family, multiple couples or corporate groups. The king-size bed in the King Bedroom faces a large window with a view across the Gorge, while the Skylight Queen Bedroom has its own full bath. From the beautiful stone patio with its bubbling waterfall, firepit and 8-person hot tub, to sweeping views of the Columbia Gorge, to the luxuriously-appointed beds, every one of your senses will be pampered. Casual yet sophisticated, this home's four bedrooms and 3 baths make it a great choice for a family, multiple couples or corporate groups. The king-size bed in the King Bedroom faces a large window with a view across the Gorge, while the Skylight Queen Bedroom has its own full bath. The Little Queen Bedroom shares a 3/4 bath with the King. Two sofabeds (queen and twin), a daybed and a twin-over-full bunk round out the sleeping accommodations. A very well-appointed kitchen with full-size, stainless appliances makes meal prep a breeze. In the nearby town of Stevenson you'll find fresh, local produce, meats, a wide array of superb Washington wines and local brews, and just-caught, cut to order fish to bring back for the grill! But if you'd rather not cook, there are great local restaurants a short drive away. Stevenson is tiny, but packed with shops and services to meet nearly any need, and you'll find a bookstore, a wine bar and a terrific brew pub (Walking Man) that's definitely worth a stop. Regardless, you'll want to hurry back for a toast to the day as the Gorge turns crimson in the sunset. The location provides easy, year-round access to hiking, boating, fishing, skiing and more, yet the setting itself is secluded and free from the noise and distractions of everyday life. Surrounded by national and state parks, wildlife reserves and the magnificent Columbia River, with its world-class windsurfing and kiteboarding, you'll still be less than twenty minutes from charming Stevenson, and about 12 minutes from the iconic Bridge of the Gods. You will find all sorts of up-to-date guide books and hiking maps, but you'll be tempted to stay put in the great room, with its stone fireplace, a 52-inch plasma TV with satellite cable and streaming Blu-ray, thanks to the reliable, high-speed internet. You'll also find a cool little internet radio in the sun room, near the telescope and ping-pong table. iPhone and Android docks will keep all your gadgets charged, too. Babies and children welcome! You'll find a crib, booster seats, Pack-n-Play and age-appropriate toys and games. Weddings? Yes! Cascade Retreat can accommodate outdoor wedding parties of up to 50 guests. Please call for pricing. Corporate Retreats? Workshops? Sure! Workgroups will find plenty of space for meetings, and tables, chairs and AV equipment can be furnished on request. Cascade Retreat is also elder-accessible and alternate-lifestyle friendly. Plenty of parking rounds out the list of reasons you'll want to choose Cascade Retreat for your next vacation or gathering. * Please note the cell service can be sporadic. Additional amenities include: cable / satellite TV, washer / dryer.

Dogs are allowed, too! Explore the Cascade Locks wilderness, see the Bridge of the Gods, or hike the Pacific Crest Trail. You can picnic at the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area after a day windsurfing. Launch your boat, or take a stroll in town. At the single level, two bedroom cabin, Big Ed the wooden bear will welcome you. Feel free to indulge in the 32" flatscreen TV with DVD. Grab a book to read quietly or converse with your travel partners over what exciting adventures you have planned. Kids may like slumbering in the living room with the queen-sized sofa bed. In the colder winter months, keep cozy with the electric heater or electric blanket provided, although the central heating should keep you plenty warm. The full bathroom includes grab bars for those who need a little mobile assistance. Altogether, the home can sleep six comfortably. An energy-efficient washer and dryer will help keep up with the laundry, and the utility room in the back of the house could act as a great boot storage space as well. This home is also dog friendly, and you're welcome to bring your furry friends with you for an additional pet fee. Cascade Locks is the lowest point on the Pacific Crest Trails, and each August the city hosts a fundraiser for the trail on Thunder Island in the Columbia. If you're around in November, kick-start your holiday spirit with the annual "Lighting of the Bridge," when the structure is decked out in its holiday garb. In December, the city finishes its Christmas decorating with its "Festival of Light." Don't wait another moment away from the beauty of the Cascade Locks. Make this cabin your next escape! Additional amenities include: washer / dryer.
