The SpaceThis beautiful, simple seasonal home has been in our family since the late 1950s. While the cousins now use it a couple of weeks apiece each year, we rent the house to help supplement maintenance costs. Beautiful, tiny Isle au Haut-- located 7 miles off the scenic Deer Isle town of Stonington-- has a year-round population of about 40 people these days, replete with a one-room k-8 schoolhouse, a closet-sized post office and one small general store. Our main house includes three bedrooms upstairs-- a master bedroom with a full bed, a second small bedroom under the eaves with full bed, and "the crow's nest" with two twins. Upstairs also includes a full bathroom with tub. Downstairs is the house's living space-- a light and airy living room (chock full of boardgames and books), fully stocked open kitchen and dining room, and full bath with shower. The "boathouse" has two twin beds, a half bath, a private living area and a deck suspended over the edge of our private rocky beach. The bunkhouse helps accommodate large crowds with two double beds on the main floor and two double mattresses up in the sleeping loft. All homes are simply but comfortably furnished. Spend your days as active as you can imagine-- hike in Acadia National Park (Isle au Haut is 2/3 park), swim in the Island's mile-long fresh water pond, explore the rocky beaches, run, walk or cycle the island, hunt for wild blueberries and chanterelles, dig for clams, kayak to neighboring islands OR laze away the days reading on the porch, watching the working lobster boats and the tide coming and going, and snacking at the acclaimed Black Dinah Chocolatier cafe ((URL HIDDEN) less than a mile down the road). Guest AccessPickup truck to get around (*standard transmission) Fully stocked kitchen Kayaks and life vests Rowboat Bikes Croquet Charcoal grill Clamming rakes and baskets General store, post-office and gift shop (where you can purchase lobster pulled straight from the surrounding waters) all within spitting distance. * Note there is no washer/dryer on the property. The Fifield family home is a wonderful opportunity for an oceanview home in an excellent location, but at much more affordable pricing. The lower pricing is only reflective of the slightly more modest nature of the cottage, and somewhat dated style. The home is in the much desired hill top location of an area called Greenhead, with beautiful period homes all overlooking the Stonington village and harbor. The Fifield home is near the end of a dead-end street, surrounded by lawn, shrubs, trees, plantings and granite outcroppings, along with 2 level decking and patio furniture. It offers a picturesque and peaceful setting, with a fair amount of privacy. The views are very good. It is only but a short walk to the downtown amenities or even shorter walk to the nearby lobster coop for fresh lobster right off the boats! Sand Beach is just a 20 minute walk or quick drive away. The inside of the home is thoughtfully put together with comfortable furnishings and is very well supplied. There are 3 bedrooms: the master has a queen, the second bedroom has two twins, and the third has one twin (note, you do walk through the second bedroom to arrive at the 3rd bedroom where the 1/2 bath is also located). There is a bonus main level queen bed in the den. Sleep sofa available too. This is the perfect house for the family on a budget that wants easy access to all amenities. During Stoningtons early heyday as a bustling granite quarrying community, The Teahouse Restaurant commenced serving the hard working population of blasters, stone cutters and quarrymen. As the granite industry waned, and the lobstering trade grew, lobstermen and fisherman were the new patrons of this popular local establishment. Nestled on a cascading hillside bordering Stonington Harbor and capturing spectacular views across Stonington Harbor and beyond, it was only natural that after The Teahouse closed its doors, it was perfectly situated to transform into a small cottage.....and what a transformation! The new owner has masterfully converted this former small teahouse into a romantic, cozy getaway, considering every detail. Every space is beautifully utilized, where stylish decor mixed with original touches exudes warmth and sophistication. From modern granite counter tops to the original claw foot tub, you will feel right at home in this beautifully appointed home. Built-in cushioned window seating and cabinets, pine, oak and cork flooring, and quality furnishings throughout all add to the comfort and coziness of your home away from home. French doors and ample windows bring in the suns warmth and glow, while the gas 'woodstove' relieves the early morning and evening chill. Cathedral ceilings, graced with a small stained glass window in the gable, bestow an open and airy feel. Superior touches throughout the home--a flat screen TV with cable, CD and DVD player and a collection of recent movies--promise to make your stay more than comfortable. Situated near some of Stonington's most beautiful homes, Tea House Cottage is encircled by Victorians, Mansards, Farmhouses and a variety of picturesque homes enjoying the amazing scenery, all overlooking Stonington Harbor. Caring property owners have collaboratively encouraged the expansion of a small field of lupine bordering the cottage, and surrounding gardens, rock wall, natural ledge, and nearby spruce clad forest, which provides a pleasurable setting all to be enjoyed from the Tea House's wrap around deck, complete with seating and flower boxes. The cottage is very well supplied. A large lobster pot is ready for fresh lobster that can be purchased just a short walk to the nearby lobster coop. Between the gas grill, gas stove and mini-gourmet kitchen, you'll enjoy meals prepared at home, while just a short walk to downtown brings you to Stonington's popular restaurants. Two trail bikes are available for those more adventurous. Guests may wish to bike to the Isle au Haut Ferry just on the other side of the harbor and take the morning ferry over to Isle au Haut, part of Acadia National Park, for a great day of biking and hiking. Ample activities await throughout Deer Isle and the surrounding communities, while The Tea House's cozy ambiance awaits your return. Additional amenities include: pets considered. What a view from this charming little house perched directly on the harbor! This cottage is suited to a single, couple or small party of 3 who like to be right in the thick of downtown activity - and who do not mind the sound of lobster boats coming and going for their days catch, or people or vehicles passing by through town. Walk right across the street to the theater, next door to the town dock, or just down the street to the nearby restaurants, shops, galleries and other attractions. For those who enjoy the downtown setting, Catbird Cottage is a delight! Additional amenities include: coffee maker, video player, games - all ages, lobster pot, outdoor grill charcoal.
