Our beautiful home is only 45 minutes from Milwaukee, just over an hour from Chicago, and only 30 minutes from Erin, WI which hosts the U.S. Open in June 2017! It is on an 8-acre lake fantastic for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. It can also be enjoyed by walking the ample trails in the summer and snowshoeing in winter. Our home comfortably sleeps 14 in the house and a yurt, which has comfy queen beds, a living room, electricity, a small frig, and a composting toilet. Bedrooms in the house include a master on the top floor with a king-sized bed and fold-out couch (to say nothing of the fireplace and lake view!), and an open sleeping loft with bunk beds that look out over the living room. IMPORTANT: Sounds travels and, if you have people who like to stay up late, you might want to make sure that they are also the people who sleep in the loft! The master and loft share a full bath. The first floor has a small, cozy bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a bathroom with shower just down the hall, while the lower floor includes a king bed and bunk beds, with a door opening to the beach and lake, as well as its own bathroom with shower. This room is right off of the sauna and next to the ping-pong, darts, and pool room—another consideration about where people might sleep if you have late-nighters in your party! The house also has a spectacular, 2-story stone fireplace in a small, but cozy living room, a full kitchen with a dining room looking out at the lake with seating for 10, and a screened in porch that we use to seat another six family members for meals, to read the morning paper and drink coffee, to play games at night, and to watch the incredible bird life or Wisconsin's wonderful, summer storms. We are only 15-minutes to town,, where you will be able to find all of the essentials that you might need. Don't forget to try Wisconsin's famous custard! This is "lake country," and there are numerous public lakes for fishing, boating, and dining, all within a short driving distance. Our place is a great place to stay for a family reunion, or if you want a great base for a summer vacation that includes side trips to the Wisconsin Dells, the Saturday Farmer's Market in Madison, the beautiful Kettle Moraine, or the world-class music at the renowned SummerFest in Milwaukee! Book now, as rental availability is limited: this is our home, not a year-round rental.

The SpaceThe Silo from floor to rooftop stands nearly 40 feet and has 4 floors and a loft. 4 floors are accessed with a cleverly engineered spiral staircase and the 5th lofted floor is accessed by a 6 foot ladder. The spiral staircase climbs the inner wall while the floors make way in the shape of a crescent to reveal an artsy vertical view from above or below. The 4th floor is a really unique space with 6 large opening windows that reveal a 360° view of the farm and wildlife reserve land. Geese, Sandhill Crane, deer and turkey are quite often heard and seen. Bring a book, watch a movie, take in the views and fall asleep to a closer view of the stars. The cozy loft on the 5th level is nestled in the peak of the silo above the windows. Accessed by a uniquely designed folding ladder, Its just large enough to fit a queen size memory foam mattress, flat screen TV and DVD player. It has A/C for the hot days and a space heater for the cold days. The restroom is a converted milk-house with hot running water just steps from the silo entrance (seasonal). Going as "Green" as possible, we went with a Shabby-Chic/Industrial vibe using re-purposed material; galvanized steel, copper pipe and old barn wood. Perhaps the most interesting feature is that the water supply is entirely harvested rainwater. A first flush diverter system and a series of filters purify the rainwater before it enters the building. Rainwater is good for your hair! Atleast thats what my granny told me. We also provide basic breakfast foods such as eggs, milk and fruit Sleeping- The 5th floor/loft houses a queen size bed. If more sleeping space is needed we have an air mattress that can be supplied. The space includes common (and not so common) amenities such as: -Hot water -Shower/tub -Toilet -Air Conditioning -Fireplace -Fans -Small fridge with freezer -Outlets -Bar with stools -TV/DVD player (in peak) -Motorized trap door -Hammock chair swings -Fire pit Food Prep Items include: -Drinking water -Charcoal grill (bring charcoal) -French press -Electric griddle -Electric kettle -Toaster -Spatula -Plates, cups, bowls, spoons, forks, knifes -Corkscrew and bottle opener Interaction with GuestsThe Silo is on family property, we are available to help with questions or concerns you may have. Other Things to NoteAt this time, the Silo is best suited for 3 seasons. Before the first freeze, we do shut down the rain water bathroom and open the outhouse (heated). The 1800s stove looks really neat but does not heat the full silo very well if outside is under 40 degrees F. We are continually improving the creature comforts of the space and we hope to make it a 4 seasons retreat by next season. If you do decide to book this winter, please bring warm clothes and be prepared for a rustic experience. We have been listening to ideas and requests and improving the silo every week. The A/C unit was having trouble keeping up with the full silo during the day so we installed an A/C vent directly in the lofted peak so that it now can remain cool anytime day or night. We have also added blinds, another hammock chair and card/coffee table on the 4th floor. Though the filtered rain water is likely ok to drink, we would suggest you stick with the filtered water provided for drinking. This is located in a large dispenser in the entrance of the silo.
