The SpaceComo en Casa provides a unique opportunity to experience the real Colombia with all the warmth of its people and its unique landscapes. Edilma's family is part of this social program aimed at improving the housing conditions of poor rural families and to develop cultural exchange. Professor Muhammad Yunus, Founder of Grameen Bank and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, created Como en Casa.
This program allows national and international visitors being hosted by low-income rural families to share with them their way of life and learn their productive activities such as coffee cultivation or production of panela. The income these families receive through this service are destined for improvements in their habitability within their homes and community.
Edilma’s family consists of her daughter Yuri and herself. They develop different activities such as cultivation of beans and pigs. Besides cooking arepas that they sell among their neighbors. Both Edilma and her daughter are very friendly people who enjoy receiving guests in their home and teaching them about their lifestyle and productive activities. Yuri, who is 24 years-old, enjoys taking visitors to perform various activities in the village, such as walking, hiking, and horseback riding.
The house is very special because it is one of the oldest in Hojas Anchas, with more than one hundred years of history. It's a very nice big house that has become a symbol of the village because of its size and architecture. Formerly a hotel when Hojas Anchas was the main road between Medellin and Manizales. The first floor has a very spacious four bedrooms and a kitchen and bathroom. In the downstairs, there is the small town’s bar (only open Friday and Saturday). The house has a beautiful view of all the mountains that surround it. The guest room is very spacious and comfortable. It's a great experience staying in a house so large and with so much history.
The nature found in Hojas Anchas is spectacular and there are many interesting activities to do nearby. (eg walking, bathing in a spectacular waterfall, horseback riding, etc.).
The price includes: accommodation, three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), plus a family member to guide and perform the activities offered in the village.
After booking, a representative from Como en Casa will contact you and give you all the information needed and the ways to signup and participate.
