The SpaceOpal Street House is a comfortable cottage set in a former orchard (now a large, private garden with lots of fruit trees). Our home is less than a mile from Sutter Creek's historic Main Street. 2 Beds, 1 Bath. Sleeps up to 4. Welcome to Opal Street House. Our two-bedroom cottage is set in a former orchard (now a large private garden with nice fruit trees), and our home is less than a mile from Sutter Creek's historic Main Street. Opal Street House is about "la dolce vita"-- a nice get-away if you just want to sit in the porch swing, and an ideal base for exploring Amador County's Gold Rush towns, wineries, scenic back roads, restaurants and special attractions (Daffodil Hill, Black Chasm caves, Sutter Creek Theatre, Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre, and the Jackson Rancheria Casino are just a few of the attractions close by). Our home is also a popular place to stay during Amador's favorite events like Amador Four Fires, Italian Picnic, Big Crush, Dandelion Days and Behind the Cellar Door. Opal Street's Sutter Creek location also turns a whole bucket list of regional field trips into possible day trips: Kirkwood, Sacramento, Silver Lake and a long list of towns and sites up and down the Highway 49 and Highway 88 corridors. Opal Street House sleeps up to four people. Our home is a balance of un-fussy luxury and the simple pleasures of living in the country. It features an old-fashioned front porch (with a swing), central heat and air, hard wood floors in the living areas (carpet in bedrooms), French doors into a big yard, great natural light, a mix of antiques and comfortable modern furnishings--and thoughtful details throughout. We offer one king-size bed and one queen-size bed—both outfitted with luxury linens. Our bookshelves are well-stocked, and we keep complimentary popcorn, a bottle of local wine and our favorite coffee plus other essentials and snacks waiting for you in the pantry. We like to cook, and our kitchen is supplied with the basics. If you'd like us to stock the fridge or enhance what's in the pantry before you arrive, we're happy to arrange for an array of items for an additional charge. We're also happy to make arrangements for a special occasion (chilled champagne? flowers?)--just let us know. Once you arrive our house book will help you explore the area with plenty of local insider tips (from our favorite local butcher to the closest hot springs and a full schedule of local and regional events). The house is nestled at the end of a private drive in the midst of a quiet neighborhood. We are firm on our policy of a 4-guest limit, and our house is not suitable for hosting large parties. We require a two-night minimum stay and offer significant discounts for visits of a week and longer. We also offer returning guests discounts. Other specific amenities (see "The Space" as well): Complimentary wi-fi, washer and dryer, a simple stereo system (use alone or with your i-pod/i-pad), a gas stove with oven and broiler, garbage disposal, dish washer, and a full-sized fridge. The bathroom features a tub/shower combination and luxury bath products. Our enclosed, attached garage provides parking for a single car and our private drive area has ample space for up to two additional vehicles. We provide an "old school" BBQ, briquettes and tools. The yard has two small café tables and chairs. We do not have a microwave, a land-line phone, or TV--this house is about unplugging and enjoying "la dolce vita". The yard that surrounds the house is planted with heritage roses, lilacs, grapes, fruit and nut trees. You are welcome to sample what's in season--as long as you leave some of the crop for us and the next guests. Guests stay at Opal Street House without us, your hosts, being there. We are available to help you plan your trip, answer questions at any time, and serve as a resource to help you enjoy our home. A quiet residential neighborhood less than one mile from the heart of historic Sutter Creek. Public transportation is pretty limited in Amador County. However, Amador Rapid Transit does provide some services. They post their schedules and routes on-line. Guest AccessGuests have full access to our home and garage, as well as our large private (fenced) yard. The exceptions: one storage closet and our storage shed in the yard. The SpaceEnjoy rustic accommodations with stunning views in the middle of a working Permaculture farm. A cute 18' travel trailer with a very comfortable SleepNumber mattress (new January2015) is provided for sleeping. There is also an expansive outdoor kitchen fully equipped with everything you need to cook a nice meal. There is an outdoor shower with hot water provided by a solar-hot water heater. The restroom has been upgraded to flush toilets. A small overhanging bouldering wall and slack line are located in the camp area for your enjoyment. The farm is located 5 miles outside of Jackson CA and is not accessible by public transportation. Crowing of the rooster and the noises of the cows and llama will likely be heard by guests. In the winter, this is one of the warmest spots around, usually t-shirt weather during the day if it isn't raining. It is hot, dry and dusty in this area in the summertime and there is no cooling devices in the trailer. There is minimal power, provided by a small photo-voltaic system. This is enough to run a few lights and charge your phone or computer. There is no internet access. The farm is 100% off grid. Staying on the farm is a good option if you are good with simple accommodations. There is lots to do in the surrounding area, including cave tours, wine tasting, the hwy 88 corridor of the Sierra Nevada mountains etc. Fresh produce, honey, milk and meat products are available for sale during your stay at the farm. We also occasionally offer breakfast and dinner, depending on how busy we are during your stay. Guest AccessThe area around the trailer, shower, fire pit, outdoor kitchen. The rest of the farm is off limits due to safety issues unless we are here and you are specifically invited. NO CAMPFIRES ARE ALLOWED IN THE SUMMERTIME DUE TO THE EXTREME FIRE DANGER Interaction with GuestsIt really depends a lot on what else we have going on. We live and work here on the farm, but are also often away building other farms in the region. If we are around we will say hello, but may not have time for much interaction so please be patient with our unpredictable farming lifestyle. The NeighborhoodVery quiet! Getting AroundPublic transit is not available. You must have your own transportation. Other Things to NoteThis is a working farm, we start work at dawn in the summer time and don't end until after dark. Sometimes we have to make noise in the morning. Your accommodations are in the same general area as the intern accommodations. You have your own space but share the outdoor kitchen and bathroom.

The SpaceOur home features a gourmet kitchen (with a six-burner Viking range, two ovens, a pantry stocked with the basics for your enjoyment, dishwasher, large refrigerator and freezer, cooking tools, dishes, stemware, etc), two comfortable and private bedrooms (with a king and a queen bed respectively), a master spa bath and a second bath with shower. Our home also features a classic sunroom which is a special retreat in every season, and can serve as a comfortable additional guest room with a queen futon we will make up with a memory foam topper and luxury linens. In addition, our home has a music room with an upright piano, guitar, gas fireplace, and well-stocked book shelves. In addition we have a full dining room with a small bar (including a separate bar fridge) with room to seat 8. The house has a large open living room adjacent to the music room, and our place is completed by a large laundry room. Our home is outfitted with central heat and air, fast wifi, a Bluetooth music system and a CD player. We provide fine linens, towels, and bath products, a pantry stocked with basics and a selection of snacks for you to enjoy, along with a bottle of complimentary local wine, soft drinks and Philz coffee. We do NOT have a land-line or a TV. This house is for unplugging and enjoying la dolce vita. The house is a welcoming, comfortable and spacious place. The old fashioned porch and private garden with a its small deck, patio and lawn are just right for socializing or lounging. Our home sits between Sutter Creek's Main Street and Spanish Street. Despite being in the walkable heart of historic downtown, our home is quiet, and our garden feels like a private oasis. Sutter Creek is perfectly situated for exploring Amador and other foothill region wineries, nearby towns on the Highway 49 corridor, and scenic beauty, fishing (or skiing) at Kirkwood and in the Sierra via an easy drive up Highway 88. Guest AccessGuests have access to our entire home, including our music room and library. We like to cook, and our pantry is stocked with the essentials for you--along with a complimentary bottle of our favorite local wine and our favorite Philz coffee from San Francisco. Guests also have access to our garden tucked behind our home. Our laundry room provides a washer and dryer. Free parking for up to three cars in tandem is available in our driveway--or street parking is available across from our home. Interaction with GuestsWe are on call and ready to assist our guests, without disturbing their time to enjoy our home. We enjoy sharing requested info, recommendations and help with special arrangements. We're also always ready (of course) to provide any support needed during a stay. We use a lock box for keys to give our guests as much flexibility as possible. The NeighborhoodSutter Creek is a special town in the heart of the California gold country. It's friendly and authentic--a thriving small town which celebrates and treasures shared connections with friends, family and neighbors--and connections to local history and scenic beauty. It's also an increasingly dynamic place--welcoming new tasting rooms to showcase our region's outstanding wine region; celebrating seasons and traditions with unique events, and boasting imaginative one-of-a-kind shops (many of which are appearing in thoughtfully restored historic storefronts). We love our location. Sutter Creek's Main Street is just steps away, and the whole town is walkable and provides storybook views at nearly every turn. Yet our Alley is peaceful and quiet enough to let you hear frogs in the evening and birds in the morning. Getting AroundSutter Creek and Amador County are served by a limited amount of public transportation via Amador Rapid Transit. Once in Sutter Creek you will not need your car to explore the town itself, but a car will be the most convenient way to explore surrounding towns and the wider foothill region. If you wish to hire a car service for wine tours, options include Gold Country Taxi (based in Amador and El Dorado) and Baja Limo (based in Sacramento). We can help put you in touch with their contacts or provide info on other resources--just let us know what is helpful. Other Things to NoteOur home has two bedrooms (outfitted with a king and a queen-size bed respectively). In addition we have a beautiful, old fashioned sun room at the back of our home outfitted with a futon. Our housekeeping staff will make the futon into a bed (its comfort is enhanced by a memory foam topper and luxury linens) if you notify us you will require an extra bed. This sunroom has its own door to our back deck and back yard, and its own small heater to take any chill off winter nights and mornings, as well as a ceiling fan to welcome breezes through the screened windows in summer. We love helping guests connect with all things local. Don't be shy about asking us for recommendations of things to do, or for resources in and around our area. If you are on social media, we post information about our home as well as about local and regional news and events on most social media platforms. As we note in our check-in info: We have a long driveway to the left of our home, which will accommodate three cars parked in tandem (one behind the other). There is also street parking along the fence just across from our home. We suggest placing one car on the street to avoid being hemmed in by others who may park opposite our drive (we're working with City on getting a 'no parking' sign for that spot). The opening of our drive is narrow so take it slow as you slip between our porch and our neighbor's home. Entering Hayden Alley from our cross street, Spanish Street, (vs Main Street) will make it easier to turn into our drive. It is also much easier to turn (right or left) from Hayden on to Spanish Street when leaving than it is to turn from Hayden onto Main Street.

The SpaceOnce you arrive there is no need to get in your car until you leave! Great places to walk, whether it is for exercise, to dinner, coffee, shopping, wine tasting or entertainment. You will find a very active little theater on Main Street and lots of California gold mining history everywhere you look. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use the patio and outdoor gas fireplace as well as the kitchen for coffee and a light breakfast. There is a sitting/reading area adjacent to the bedroom. Please keep the gates closed for my dog, though she does not try to escape. Interaction with GuestsMy office is three blocks away and so I am in and out on most days and easily reachable if not home. I'm an early riser, usually working from home until late morning. This is a small community and I have lived in my house for 25 years with mostly the same neighbors. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and enjoys sharing their knowledge and love of the area, as I do. The NeighborhoodIf dancing is your thing, you may want to drive the two miles to Amador City for Dancing in the Streets every Saturday night from June through August. On Saturday mornings we have a Farmers Market just three blocks away. For breakfast, you can't beat Buffalo Chips for a classic morning start or if you want something out of the ordinary, walk another block to Element for a little more adventurous and very delicious menu. Chocolatte is the place to be for wonderful pastries and divine coffee, plus homemade chocolates that will stop you in your tracks. For a casual dinner it's back to Buffalo Chips for the best burger and fries in the county or to the Hotel Sutter for ambiance, a fun lobby bar with the coldest tap beer to be found, the Cellar Bar where you'll find live music on the weekends, Trivia on Tuesdays and HDTV for the big game on Sunday. I am excited to share this town I have grown to love so much! Getting AroundThere are two off-street parking places in my driveway, one for me and one for guests. Walking is the best mode of transportation in Sutter Creek. Other Things to NoteTrash pickup day is Thursday so that can be a noisy morning.

First built in 1851 during the early days of the California Gold Rush by German immigrant George Leger, this historic hotel was destroyed by fires and rebuilt three times, most recently in 1874. Located in the town of Mokelumne Hill, the richest strike of the Mother Lode, it is still operating as one of the oldest hotels in California. Once the County seat of Calaveras County, the original County courthouse and jail were purchased by George Leger in 1864 and are now part of the hotel. Featuring historic rooms filled with antique furniture, the original saloon, and a beautiful backyard courtyard with a pool and three 150-year old orange trees, the Hotel Leger is a wonderful place to experience the history of the California Gold Rush days.
