The SpaceOur town and country guest house is private, clean, comfortable and modern. The home is all one level except for one step down to the family room with the pool table. We live next door and can provide a level of service not normally found in other vacation homes. At La Casita you'll enjoy what we enjoy...quiet, convenience, shopping parks, beaches and restaurants all within walking distance or a short drive. Our spacious home is very convenient for families, groups or business travelers visiting the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. The home is a little over a mile from the White Oak River/Bogue Sound and only minutes from Crystal Coast beaches, Hammock's Beach State Park, Croatan National Forest hiking trails, Ft Macon State Park, the Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores and many other excellent local attractions. The home is also within an easy 30 minute or less drive to all of the USMC installations of the Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base complex. Finally, our 45 acre pine and hardwood forest makes La Casita Swansboro's only carbon neutral destination. Our tree farm, Redbay Farm, is also one of the largest tracts of undeveloped land in the Swansboro area. Search for La Casita in Swansboro to learn more.
**Guest Review Highlights**
•"C'est l'endroit idéal pour se reposer après une journée de découverte de cette région superbe. (Translation: It (La Casita) is the ideal place to relax after a day of exploring this stunning region)."
• "If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would! The pictures and descriptions don't do full justice to the terrific location, hospitality, and wealth of amenities, etc., offered by La Casita."
• "The listing is exactly as described but much more. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived with everything we could possibly need. The house is in a normal area of family homes but the fact that it backs up to 'country' made if very enjoyable."
• "They knew we had a young daughter, and they put out Disney movies and set up Netflix specifically for her. It's clear the hosts take pride in what they do and have an eye for detail."
• "Jim and Elizabeth are incredible hosts and their property is faultless. Both the house and the welcome we were given made our stay extremely special. Our only negative was that we couldn't stay longer."
Bottom line? As one guest puts it, "This place (La Casita) is a jewel!"
We thank all of our guests for their gracious reviews!
La Casita is perfect for casual living. A guest from California said..."This (La Casita) is a beautiful house...the house was actually much more modern than I expected from the description, very new, clean, and nicely designed. We loved the game room with the massive TV, pool table, and wood burning stove." (owner note: La Casita was built in 2004, renovated in 2008 and again in 2014 with new paint and flooring)
• 46" and 40" flat screen HD smartTVs with free Netflx and Amazon Prime plus more
• Free WIFI
• Free basic Cable with local HD channels (if you want a certain cable channel on the TV let us know and we will see if we can order)
• 12 local over the air TV channels supplied by my homemade HD TV antenna (described as a work of industrial art by one guest)
• Enjoy the comfort of our wood stove during the winter with firewood provided free of charge from the our own 45 acres of forest...guest comment, "We spent most of the time in the huge family room playing pool, watching TV or just reading by the wood stove."
• Pool table...guest comment, "The family room with pool table was a big hit. I would recommend this home to anyone traveling to the area."
The Bedrooms and Bathrooms...enjoy clean comfortable beds, linens and facilities! How nice are the beds? A British guests said, "The bedrooms, beds and bedding were spotlessly clean and made us feel right at home."
• The master bedroom has a queen bed, private en-suite bathroom with a large walk in shower and walk in closet.
• The second bedroom has another very comfortable queen sized bed and a very large closet.
• The third bedroom, the "stained glass room", has two full sized beds. It is a lovely room for children of all ages.
• The colorful second bathroom has a great tub and shower.
• In the living room there is a full sized sofa bed and in the family room there is a full sized leather covered futon.
• Parents traveling with a baby or toddler will enjoy using our Graco Pack 'n Play and Evenflow convertible high chair.
In the kitchen you will find all of the dishes, silverware and utensils necessary for cooking. We even provide complimentary spices. If there is that little something you need to prepare the perfect meal it's likely we have it at La Casita or in our home...You simply won't find very many vacation getaways with such a well stocked and equipped kitchen. As a guest from the Raleigh area recently said, "The kitchen was the best stocked of any rental I've had."
Enjoy the Outdoors!
The yard has been landscaped and is well maintained. The back yard is extremely private and fenced, the yard features mature trees, flowers, fruit trees and even grape vines. There are no homes in view from the backyard all you will see is our small pasture, outbuildings, our private forest, and of course the goats, our chickens and nearby farms visiting comical chatterboxes also known as guinea fowl (who might fly into the yard for a visit!).
• The covered porch and the patio have seating for 8. In the patio and yard you will find a gas grill, hammock and lawn chairs.
• A recent guest from Chicago said, "We loved feeding the goats living behind the backyard fence." While a guest from Kentucky said, "We even had fresh eggs delivered to our doorstep from the owners chickens, and we loved the goats too!" Yes, we provide you with complimentary eggs at your arrival depending on availability. If we don't have eggs our next door neighbor sells real free range (no enclosures at all) eggs for $2 a dozen.
Conveniences for our guests
There is room for two guest cars in the driveway. La Casita is equipped with an electronic lock on the front entry door to make access very simple (you will be provided a personal and private code for the front door after booking). You will love not having to worry about keeping track of keys!
You will be very comfortable at La Casita, with its welcoming casual ambiance and convenient amenities. We have La Casita listed for times when it would be available for your exclusive use, so you have the run of the house (no one else will be sharing). Elizabeth and I are available to answer any questions you may have about our special little house. You'll have access to the entire home. Your privacy is our priority! I will usually welcome you, offer a quick tour of the property and then be close by to answer any questions and provide assistance during your stay!
Your trip here may be full with family visits or outdoor activities...but always waiting for you will be the beautiful La Casita ... an oasis of calm and serenity for your rest and relaxation. We look forward to your visit!
***Packing tip: We provide towels, linens, beach towels, a small boogie board, a large boogie board, a beach umbrella, pots and pans ... etc. Packing is always a hassle...before you pack that unique little something ask us if we have one you can use. We might be able to save you some space in your bags or in your car.***
Thank you for selecting La Casita! Guest AccessOur guests have access to the entire home and private fenced back yard. Our guest house will be reserved for your private use! You will not be sharing any part of the home or amenities. Please enjoy reading our books, the complimentary Netflix and Amazon Prime, the lovely back yard, feeding the goats and chickens, the solar warmed shower, and of course the hammock under the trees!
You'll see me feeding the goats and chickens and doing chores. I will be going to the front and back yards to water the flowers, trees and grapevines. If I need to mow grass or do other noisy activities I'll try to wait until you and your family are out enjoying all the great things to do here in Swansboro and the Crystal Coast of North Carolina. Interaction with GuestsOur typical interaction is messaging during the booking process, a greeting during check in. During your stay you'll receive periodic text messages just to check to see that your stay is meeting your expectations.
We enjoy meeting and hosting our guests. We love hearing about your adventures. We cherish the artwork left by our young visitors in the La Casita sketch book. Likewise, we cherish their parent's gracious comments left in the La Casita journal.
We live next door and are available around the clock to provide assistance during your stay! Just knock or call and we'll be right over to assure you have everything you need to have a great stay at La Casita! The NeighborhoodLa Casita is located in the Deer Run neighborhood. Deer Run is a quiet family oriented suburban neighborhood within about 1 mile of downtown Swansboro. We are right on the edge of the city limits so it isn't unusual to see and hear wildlife (deer, turkey, all sorts of birds and maybe even a bear). We also have guinea fowl that occasionally roam around the yard and garden eating bugs, weed seeds and even small animals like mice and snakes. Of course you'll see our goats, turkeys and chickens that live at Redbay Farm and visit the back garden fence in hopes of getting a snack!
We are a genuine town and country destination. After enjoying the touring the country or a day at the beach you might want to enjoy one of our local restaurants. We have a nice collection of great restaurants available for your dining pleasure. Our recent guests from France gave me rave reviews about their dining experience at the Riverside Steak and Seafood Restaurant...the restaurant is less than a mile from La Casita and is the rated in Trip Advisor as the #1 restaurant in Swansboro! Other restaurants to consider...Yanas (rated #2 in Trip Advisor) with it's 1950's decor and great food. For water front dining, we recommend the The Santorini Mediteranean Grill (rated #5 in Trip Advisor) or The Ice House Restaurant (rated #9 in Trip Advisor). The Ice House sometimes occasionally has great live music that you will be sure to enjoy.
There are some nice restaurant choices just a short walk away. For some really great Mediterranean food try the Olea Mediterranean Grill near the post office...just walk through the park toward Walgreens and cross Old Hammock's Beach road and the restaurant will be in the second across from the Taco Bell. Another less expensive recommendation is La Parrilla Taqueria. This restaurant serves Mexican food. Walk straight through the park past the park playground. You'll find the restaurant on the left in the large commercial building as you enter the parking area.
In the summer on a Sunday evening why not enjoy a free concert. On Sunday evenings Swansboro hosts free concerts (May - September) during the summer at the Pug Pavilion. Get yourself a beer at the Church Street Pub or maybe even a great Cigar from George at the cigar shop right behind the pavilion. Enjoy a lovely evening in Swansboro, "The Friendly City by the Sea"!
The #1 thing to do in Swansboro according to Trip Advisor is to go to Hammocks Beach State Park (ferry runs start on Saturday April 2, 2016). The park is only about 3 miles from La Casita. Take the pontoon passenger ferry over to Bear Island and enjoy one of the few undeveloped barrier islands in North Carolina. Our guests love the park!
Bottom line: La Casita is a great location or as one recent guest says, La Casita..."is a great hub for exploring the natural beauty and towns in the area." There is so much to do here. As our British guest says, "We were never at a loss for things to do. The beaches on the Crystal Coast and on Bear Island are among the best we've been to in the USA and are just a few minutes drive away."
Come to Swansboro and stay at La Casita. Enjoy our clean comfortable home and the wonderful natural attractions of Eastern North Carolina. We look forward to your visit and listening to your stories about your adventures! Getting AroundWe are in a safe walkable area with a town park and many different types of restaurants, a drugstore and many other businesses within .5 miles. Downtown Swansboro is literally only a couple of minutes away by car (about 1 mile). Some of our guests enjoy walking to downtown (a 10 to 15 minute stroll. Our British guests said, "Having a great play park at the end of the road really helped keeping the youngster entertained and we enjoyed having somewhere to get food or a coffee just a five minute walk away."
Two regional airports are within 45 minutes by car. The home is about 2.5 hours from the international port of entry at Raleigh Durham International airport. Our British guest went on to say, "For international visitors like us, Swansboro is incredibly easy to get to - just a couple of hours drive from Raleigh Durham Airport."
Yes, Uber is available! Bike rentals are available nearby from a local vendor, Highway 58 bikes on Emerald Isle. There is a grocery store, Piggly Wiggly, just a short bike ride through the park from La Casita.
However you decide to get around you'll enjoy the local area. We look forward to your visit! Other Things to Note*** We have an Electric Fence (The fence is well marked): We have goats and pasture raised chickens which free range on the behind the La Casita. The pasture is enclosed in an electric fence for the protection of our animals. The electric fence is outside the back yard fence. We've had some adventurous young boy's stay at our place but have not heard any mention of an encounter with the fence. The electric fence is well marked. If you have a concern I can turn it off during daylight hours.
***The Goats: Blacky, Billy, Brownie and Beard. Our four goats are playful wethers (wethers are male goats that have been fixed). Wether goats are perfect goat pets...they don't smell bad and they have a great temperament. Brownie will even let my grandson take a ride on his back. All of the goats love bread, cookies, vegetable scraps. You'll enjoy watching their antics, playfully head butting and just doing goat stuff. The goats are separated from La Casita by a 4 foot high fence.
***Chickens: Our chickens are allowed to free range (I let them out in the late afternoon) on the pasture with the goats. They love eating bugs (their favorite food) but as omnivores they also will like small bits of meat, cheese and even fish. The chickens are locked up each night in the small shelter they sleep in with the goats.
***The guinea fowl: We have eight guinea fowl. They are chatterboxes! The females make their "good luck" "good luck" call while they all chip, chirp and screech at anything different or unusual. They are great watchers who alarm if a hawk, raccoon, dog or anyone or thing strange steps into their domain. But, alas, they are not too smart. You'll laugh as you watch some of their antics. Generally I keep them cooped up but sometimes a couple will escape and spend the day terrorizing bugs.
***Fresh sun dried linens: When the weather allows we sun dry linens on the retractable clothes line behind La Casita. You'll enjoy the smell of sun dried sheets and pillow cases! Some of our guests enjoy hanging out their own clothes. I'll have the clothesline set up off to the side of the house so that you can use it to dry towels and swimsuits if you would like!
***Let's talk cleaning (please see reviews): La Casita is cleaned top to bottom after every visit. All sheets, pillow cases and towels that were touched by previous guests are washed. Comforters, pillows and throws are washed if needed. The floor of La Casita is swept, mopped and polished after every visit. All surfaces are dusted. The refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, pots, pans and dishes are all cleaned and inspected. Of course bathrooms are given a thorough scrubbing. Outside the yard is mowed and kept neat for our visitors.
***Got a carbon footprint? La Casita is part of Redbay Farm (our 45 acres of pine forest) and is Swansboro's only Carbon Neutral Destination (your travel and lodging carbon footprint is offset by our forest at no additional charge!). When you stay at La Casita you help pay for taxes, upkeep and help defer harvest of our forest. Staying with 'small holders' helps preserve undeveloped land and mitigates forest fragmentation. Don't worry you won't be proselytized with environmental 'this and that' during your stay. We're just small forest owners letting you know about one of the benefits of staying at La Casita! Redbay Farm lies at the intersection of Hamrick Road and West Main Street Extension in Swansboro (see the overhead aerial photo in our Airbnb photo album). If you want to experience an environmental contrast park on the side of Hamrick Road on a nice day and listen. You will hear the sounds of life coming from our forest and on the other side of the road silent except for road noise from Highway 24. Just something to think about.
