****Please read the description below and contact me before booking so I can confirm prices and dates. **** The guesthouse is above a shop in the warehouse/industrial area close to Sydney Airport and it is on the corner of some very busy streets. If you find noise in the house is an issue you can ask for free earplugs but most people get used to it very quickly. There is street parking behind the building. Rooms do not have TVs and there is no common lounge or dining area. We do provide free fast wifi Internet across the house. We are best suited to be either a “crash pad” for travellers who are out most of the day and don't need common areas or for students who will be spending a lot of time in their rooms studying or working. It's is also only 5kms from University of Sydney and UTS. It's 8kms from University of New South Wales and buses to both places take less than half an hour. You are less than five minutes walk to a small shop, a Hungry Jacks(Burger King), a KFC and a McDonalds. Opposite the house is a pub with restaurant, events, music and cheap drinks. Fifteen minutes walk takes to you a beautiful big parkland area with a cafe, or to the local shopping centre of Marrickville with the nearest big supermarket. This is a great opportunity for backpackers, workers, families and students who want private lockable rooms in the Inner West with free use of multiple kitchens and bathrooms and who understand that the rundown nature of the guesthouse means cheap rooms! Guest Access There are 10 bedrooms in total, two kitchens, three bathrooms and some rooms have their own showers. The smallest rooms can sleep two and the largest rooms can take six in dorm style, or a small family. There is a coin operated washing machine and dryer on site. There may be up to 20 people in the guesthouse sharing all facilities and everybody is expected to help keep kitchens and bathrooms clean. Interaction with Guests There is no reception desk so this guesthouse is suitable for independent travellers who do not need much assistance. I do not live in the guesthouse but can be contacted if there are problems. I provide a professional cleaning company once a week to clean common areas, along with all bills paid, all kitchen and bathroom supplies including free linen. Think of it like a giant share house but with less hassle and a few more perks. The Neighbourhood Although the actual block the guesthouse is on is very ugly and so is the immediate area, it is a fantastic location if you are adventurous and prepared to walk a bit, or use public transport. It's less than 5kms from the airport - a taxi is very cheap to the house. Thirty minutes walk or a short bus ride takes you to some very cool shops and bars in Marrickville(Marrickville Rd) or Newtown(King St). Getting around We are fifteen minutes walk from St Peters or Sydenham train stations (1.5kms) but the buses are directly outside the door so you should experiment to see what you prefer – you can buy a weekly ticket that works on buses and trains. It's about 6kms to Central Station in the city. We are also only about 4kms from RPA Hospital. It would take you 20 minutes to drive to the beaches or an hour by public transport. And if that's not enough you can take a 20 min walk (2 minute bus) trip to the biggest IKEA in the Southern Hemisphere just down the road from us. Other Things to Note To show that you have read and understood my description please include the magic word "Unicorn" in your email to me when enquiring.

We have wifi for stays which are longer than a week. We will leave you a wifi device and password. 1 Gig per week. From experience, it will be enough for email browsing etc... definitely not enough for video streaming etc. Please be aware of internet limits. Thank you. If you need to top it up please let us know. ($30 additional). We have a portable air con and heaters. The place is well insulated (passive heating). The block of apartment has won an award for ecological architectural design. Please don't dry your laundry in the balcony. We have left laundry detergent (no phosphate) for you to use. The strata and neighbours are VERY strict about it and it s a fine of $AUD5,000!!.

The SpaceThe house is over 100 years old. From the front door to the living room it's decked out Edwardian style, with patterned ceilings, stained glass doors, polished floorboards and velvet curtains. The kitchen was renovated in the 70s (the tiles are still there) and has been replaced with an upcycled 1950s kitchen, with new appliances. The stove is instant gas and the hot water system is also instantaneous. It's a micro kitchen but well equipped and the dining area is large and comfortable. Feel free to use whatever you need but do the right thing and replace what you use (especially if you use a lot!) The backyard is beautifully renovated with travertine tiles, and a massive garden adorned with a chestnut tree, hisbicus, an olive tree, and flowers. It's also functional and at any time of the year you can help yourself to fresh strawberries, parsley, kaffir lime leaves (for thai cooking), fresh bay leaves, raspberries, banana passionfruit, rocket, and mandarins. And don't be put off by the family of cement Aborigines (including their baby dingo and baby koala) in the garden. The traditional custodians of this part of Sydney were Cadigal of the Eora land and this is a nod to the area's traditional indigenous owners. Plus, they look very, very cool. It is Sydenham so you're living under the flight path, which can be exhilarating when outside, however once inside, the house is fully insulated which cuts out about 90% of the noise. The flights start at 6am and finish by 11pm. Considering how close this is to the airport there are an amazing array of birds that visit the backyard. It's a very relaxing space and you'll probably want to spend most of your time out there. Smoking is OK so long as you smoke outside only (and use the ashtray). Free unlimited Wi-Fi (just don't exceed more than 100GB a month and we're good) and a HD TV with a hard drive recorder which can record free to air channels so that if you have downtime you can watch your favourite shows later and skip the ads. There is a library down the road if you want to walk in and read the latest magazines, and also a petrol station and convenience store one block away for late night snacks and essentials. There's also an awesome pub, The General Gordon down the street (you can enter straight into the dining room). It has an incredible gourmet bistro and is possibly the cheapest pub food for quite some distance. And a bottle shop. Sydenham Green is a relaxing park space literally down the end of the street. And while I have tea and coffee making facilities at home, the Crazy Horse Espresso cafe is one minute's walk away if you need a barista fix, now. Nearby you can walk (9 minutes) to bustling Marrickville Road to sample the numerous Thai & Vietnamese restaurants, and grab a bargain at the many cheap shops along the strip. Marrickville Metro shopping centre has a large supermarket with Woolworths, Aldi & Kmart and is a 3 minute drive away. King Street, Newtown is an 8 minute drive away, it's always buzzing and has a multitude of bars, cafes, restaurants and shops. Oxford Street, Darlinghurst is a 10 minute train ride away. A carport is available for off street parking (for smaller cars, though). There's also a BONDS factory outlet one minutes walk away that constantly has sales for this classic Aussie brand of clothing. There's a Fit'N'Fast gym 5 minutes walk away and also an Anytime Fitness about 8 minutes walk away. Both offer casual memberships. And the groovy secret 'Camelot Lounge' has jazz and music most nights of the week, it's a 4 minute walk away. Guest AccessYou can access the whole house (excluding my room and storage rooms) Interaction with GuestsYes. My friends from Chicago called me The Mayor when they visited Sydney. I'm proud of my city and if there's any information, apps, and/or curiosities you'd like to see that aren't in Lonely Planet, I'll help you with anything you need to know. If I don't know I'll find out and then we'll both know. I want you to love my city as much as I do, and will help wherever I can to make your stay in Sydney as enjoyable as possible. The NeighborhoodSydenham is a small suburb 8km from the CBD. It's undergoing a period of regentrification and the architecture of the area is predominantly Federation and Edwardian. The population is relatively young. It's a stone's throw from Marrickville. Getting AroundThe house is 8 minutes drive from Sydney Airport which makes life easy, or you can take the train directly to the front door (OK, it's one minute away) This house's proximity to Sydenham station, which is a major railway hub, is a boon as you can be in the CBD in minutes. There are also buses available if you need to get to somewhere off the rail network. Marrickville Metro is a huge nearby shopping centre but you'll need to either take a cab, a bus, or drive yourself there. It's only a 5 minute drive but you wouldn't want to walk back with arms full of groceries. Other Things to NoteThe planes go overhead but the house is noise insulated.

The SpaceOur beautiful new townhouse is in the landscaped grounds of a stunning heritage listed house, with city glimpses you can admire from our deck. You will have your own bedroom upstairs and your private, spacious bathroom is a few steps from your door. We provide towels, soap, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom for you to use so you can pack light. There are luxurious 1000 thread count sheets on your comfy queen bed and a selection of pillows to ensure a great sleep. Some storage available in your bedroom if you want to get your clothes out of your suitcase to make you feel more at home. Extras You are welcome to help yourself to tea and coffee in the kitchen, and we will also leave breakfast fixings for you to get your day started. Home made muesli, fruit, bread, jams and spreads are available for you to enjoy at our table. There will be bottled water by your bed when you arrive (just like a hotel!) Sydney transport is easier with an Opal card - we can leave two cards with you to use during your stay if you need them. There will be $5 on each card to get you where you need to go. It's then up to you to top the card up while you're here and return the cards to us with $5 on them. Easy! Wifi access is included. Guest AccessOur home is open plan so you're welcome to access all appropriate areas however please respect our privacy (master bedroom is off limits) and use our kitchen for basic fixings. Interaction with GuestsWe are both working professionals who are usually at home in the evenings. We love good conversation so would be happy to have a chat but also understand that sometimes you just want to concentrate on your own plans so it's up to you! We can give you assistance with transport or dining suggestions too, we love living in this area and are very happy to help you get the most out of your stay in Sydney. The NeighborhoodTempe is in the inner west of Sydney within a 5KM radius of some of the cities largest dining and cultural hubs including Newtown and Marrickville where you will be spoilt for choice. Marrickville has live music, boutique beers, cafes and delicious Vietnamese! Newtown is a hipster haven with plenty of music, shopping, restaurant, cafe and drinking options. There is so much to enjoy about the inner west of Sydney and we haven't even started on what else you can do while you're in the centre of Sydney and surrounds! Getting AroundIf you have a car, there is sufficient on street parking available which is unusual for Sydney. Sydenham station is a short walk away and you can access trains to the city every 10 minutes, more frequently during peak hour. There are also regular buses which can take you Marrickville and Newtown. You can drive to the nearest beach in about 20 minutes too (about one hour via Sydney Transport network). We are only about 10 minute drive from the airport (or you can easily take two trains), so if you need overnight accommodation en route to an exotic destination and can't face exorbitant hotel prices, stay with us! Drive times are estimates... Sydney traffic can be crazy at times irrespective of location. Other Things to NoteWe know travel doesn't always go to plan, so please give us plenty of notice if your arrival or departure times will vary so we can plan accordingly. Check in is after 6pm unless pre arranged. You are welcome to do a load of wash if you need to - it's part of the service. Living in the inner west of Sydney while close to lots of activities means also dealing with the busiest airport in Australia. Planes do land regularly however there is a curfew after 10pm and the property has thick doors and windows resulting in a quiet internal environment at all times.

The SpaceOur house is located on the Princes Hwy in Sydenham, a 13 min drive from the Domestic Airport (pretty handy, huh?) and don't worry, due to our awesome double glazed windows, you can't hear a thing from outside. Our house has character, the good kind. It is adorned with designer wall paper - a new mood for every room! Wade likes to make things, so we have pieces of recycled and handmade furniture and items scattered throughout the house and courtyard. Your private bedroom has reverse cycle air conditioning, brand new ridiculously comfy bed, ample pillows, fresh linen, feather quilt, fluffy towels, and wardrobe space, iron and ironing board - everything you need! We have free unlimited ADSL2+ wi-fi, washing machine, clothes line, and courtyard with a BBQ, all of which you are free to use. There is unrestricted on-street parking, or easy access by public transport. You can use our kitchen to cook in, or go out to one of the hundreds of restaurants and take-aways in nearby cultural epicentres of Newtown and Marrickville. A short bus trip or stroll will get you to these destinations, depending on your disposition. You'll find anything you're looking for and more, Indian, Thai, Pizza, Burgers, Italian, Modern Australian, Middle Eastern, African, pub food, cocktails, and the best thing is that these places are fairly cheap. Our hot tip is that Marrickville has some of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Sydney with Phõ to die for. We have a dog named Lord Mikito Von Hendrix Columbus III, or Mak for short, who hangs out in the yard during the day, and inside if we're home. He's very gentle with a great playful personality. You don't have to play with him, but you do need to at least tolerate dogs. ABOUT THE AREA/SURROUNDING AREAS: The Inner West is one of the most sort after places to live in Sydney. The area is alive with an incredible amount of culture and there is always something going on. The bonus with our place is that it is a friendly suburban area within walking distance to all the hot spots, and somewhere to relax if you want to escape the rat race. Guest AccessYou will have your own bedroom, use of the living areas: kitchen including utensils, crockery, stove, kettle; Living room with TV, couch; bathroom with shower and bath; laundry facilities; courtyard with seating and BBQ; and free unlimited download Wifi. Basically, our house is your house. You can also help yourself to tea and coffee. Interaction with GuestsWe are friendly social people and enjoy a good chat over a glass of wine and a meal. We are also more than happy to let you do your own thing if you prefer to keep to yourself. We can recommend places to eat and drink, and things to do around Sydney or even further afield in your travels. The NeighborhoodSydenham is a small suburb filled with great parks and super friendly people. Greet anyone on the street and a warm friendly "hello" will come right back at you. If you happen to meet our neighbour Kathy, she is likely to offer you a cup of coffee and home made Greek cake-things. We recommend drinking the coffee, (the cake, not so much). It's a true community here and it doesn't take long to feel right at home. Getting AroundThe Sydenham Train station is about a 5 min walk from our house and is one of the best in Sydney. You can reach the city in 7 minutes, Bondi Junction in 35, connections to the Western Suburbs, the Airport, or a 3 min ride into Marrickville or Erskineville where there are great places to eat and drink. There are also plenty of buses just outside our front door which can take you to the Eastern Beaches, Newtown, or the City. An UberX from our house to the Airport is usually about $15 and is a great alternative to taxis, and a ride into the city is approx $20. Other Things to NoteThe main entrance to our place is through the courtyard. We have a second entrance, so if you aren't comfortable meeting our dog without us home, you can use the front door which is just down the hall from your bedroom.
