The SpaceFull Bed under a twin size Bunk...This Room comfortably sleeps three or more. Great option for couples or families. There is room for three here, but it is also an ideal student room if you are in town for conferences or classes, but not long enough to want to sign a lease...Enough hominess for comfort, without all the commitment. :) Guest AccessGuests will have their own room and access to a bathroom with a nice Old Style Tub 5 feet away from the bedroom. Downstairs (other than the entry area) is private for our family. The NeighborhoodAdjacent to a really nice park with Tennis Court, Baseball Field, Children's Play Gym, Walking Trails and (in my opinion) Best Hilltop View of our City... We are walking Distance to SU and Upstate Hospital (8-10 blocks) and not far from some decent local restaurants in Downtown from Fine Dining to Dinosaur BBQ. Lemoyne is about 3 miles away... Hop on the Highway and you can be in Wine Country, Apple Orchards, Dairy Land or Strawberry Fields in 30 minutes...Check out our Local Farmers Market Saturdays and Thursdays. Getting Around* 1/2 block from City bus Stop, * ~5 minutes to Train Station/ Greyhound Bus Terminal, * 15 minutes to Hancock Airport. Also close to major Routes to take you around the city and Central New York...Syracuse is the crossroad to Upstate.

The SpaceReturned to its former splendor, the Russell-Farrenkopf House welcomes guests for weekends and extended stays in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. Rates are per room and include utilities, Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities. The house has six bedrooms, that are individually rented with four baths, a fully-equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, parlor with enclosed solarium, and a private porch. This room shares a bath and is located in the former servant quarters of the house. Located in the historic Hawley-Green neighborhood, the Russell- Farrenkopf house is near major highways, and walking distance to downtown, Armory Square, Syracuse University, SUNY-Upstate, hospitals, the Carrier Dome, and cultural centers along the Con- nective Corridor. Fantastic restaurants and services can also be found right in Hawley-Green (ask your host for recommendations). A stay at the Russell-Farrenkopf House is a journey in time. Built in 1865 for a prominent Syracuse building contractor and his family to overlook the Erie Canal and na- scent city of Syracuse, the grand styles of the Victorian era--French Second Empire and Italianate--are exem- plified in this design, characteristic of Horatio Nelson White, architect for many landmark structures in New York and San Francisco. Over the years as the city grew, the house saw the best of times turn. By 1975 it had become an abandoned tenement with many of its treasured features obscured by the grime of neglect and indifference. It might even have been razed had it not been for the uncompromising passion of Joan Farrenkopf, who took the restoration of this great house to heart. Guests have access to all common areas of the House: main and summer kitchen, music room, solarium, dining room and living room, backyard. No shoes, no smoking and no pets, please. The SpaceThe Mustard Seed Room was once the winter kitchen of this circa 1865 Historic House. There is yet the beautiful pantry, now walk in closet. With a private bath on the other side of the bed it boasts a claw foot tub, vanity and washer & dryer. The first floor has 4 main sitting rooms, kitchen and solarium. There is a music room with a piano and front parlor with a pump organ. All new kitchen appliances, gas range dishwasher and a sit at counter for breakfast or discussing the days events. We are a 'shoes off at the door"house. It is peaceful and we look for the same in tenants. We have hosted professors from SU, medical staff on short internships and med students on rotation. The neighborhood has a number of restaurants, Julie's on the corner, a pub like atmosphere at Rileys 7 blocks away and Sparky's for a popular lunch spot 2 blocks down. Lacy's is a Tapas restaurant also located one block down. You can walk to a small grocery around the block. A local brewery and wine shop will be opening in the 100 block of Green this year. The Hawley-Green historic district is near the university and medical centers. The medical shuttle comes 3 blocks from the house. It is a unique neighborhood of 1820's- 1880's structures when this area housed the movers and shakers of Syracuse, Congressman, Mayor's Judges and prominent businessmen. The Russell-Farrenkopf House welcomes guests for overnight, weekend, and extended stays in a smoke-free and pet-free environment. Some people do not like the idea of using a futon since most out there are cheaper quality. At our home, we don't skimp on quality! This is a premium mattress purchased from a premium mattress futon store (this year!). We almost put a bed in the room to replace the futon, however our most recent guests like the mattress so much that we ended up keeping it.

The SpaceThe guest suite is on the second floor and consists of a bedroom with queen size bed and dresser, a private, attached bathroom with sink, toilet and tub/shower combination, and a sitting room. The sitting room was a sleeping porch when the house was built 100 years ago but is now enclosed with large windows that overlook the backyard. The space contains a sofa and book case and an electric heater. There is a small tv with Amazon prime for 1000s of movies and tv shows, and an alarm clock. The bedroom has a window a/c unit in the summer months. The bedroom also contains a Keurig coffee maker with several different kinds of coffee. The house has WiFi. Guest AccessKitchen, washer and dryer, living room, front porch with swing. Private, convenient, off-street parking available. Interaction with GuestsMonday-Friday, a light homemade continental breakfast (cereal, fruit, toast, muffins etc) will be left in the kitchen starting about 6:30 am. On weekends, if desired, we will make a full breakfast, such as French toast, bacon, fruit, etc. We can interact with guests as much or as little as desired. Jeremy makes his own beer, and there is almost always home brew on tap which he's happy to share with guests. The NeighborhoodThe Strathmore neighborhood is one of Syracuse's loveliest residential neighborhoods. The focal point of the neighborhood is Onondaga Park, which was built over 115 years ago. The park contains a small lake, tennis courts, basketball courts, swimming pool, picnic shelters and walking trails. There is a charming stone bridge and gazebo on an island in the lake. On Tuesday evenings in July there are free concerts in the park. The neighborhood dates back to the beginning of the 20th century and is a mix of large old homes, smaller newer homes and two family homes. It is a very family friendly neighborhood with an active neighborhood association which organizes various events throughout the year. Getting AroundThere is bus service from the neighborhood to downtown Syracuse but it is not regularly or conveniently scheduled or located close to our home. Other Things to NoteWe have two cats: Lucy is very friendly and loves people and Charlie is very shy and probably won't come out of the closet during your stay. They are indoor only cats and may not be let outside. Please note that there are 4 steps to reach the back entrance. The guest suite is located on the second floor and can only be accessed by approximately 15 carpeted stairs. There is a hand rail.

The SpaceThere are no children or pets who reside with us. We have a small mechanical dog that makes begging noises, a singing fish on the wall in our front porch and a Gopher that makes sounds when you press his belly. We can share these with guests who may be missing their pets. Space is clean and spacious with a decent, kind couple of good humor hosting you. Diane did her time in stand-up comedy. Interaction with GuestsWe greet our guests cordially and warmly in the best sense, we like to say good morning, and when they get in "how was your day". We like to converse but don't push that on anyone. Because we had to rely on our hospitality 24/7 when we managed motels and hotels, so we are sociable by experience and interested in the guest being very comfortable. We'd love to share information about our area and answer any concerns and questions you may have. The NeighborhoodOurs is a quiet and safe neighborhood, perfect for walking. Police presence is good here, and the neighborhood businesses have been around for many years withstanding changes everywhere else in the city. The SpaceEasy access to all of Syracuse University. Both the main campus and South Campus are a mile from the house. The Dome is about a mile from the house. It is all within walking distance. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house: a full bathroom, the kitchen, and the washer and dryer. Use it as you might if you were staying with family. While we are not a full function service kitchen we will make sure there are essentials available to you in the kitchen. Please be respectful of any possessions left in common areas or in the bedrooms that are not yours. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the home, so we will be coming and going to work and play. We will be available to you to make sure your stay is pleasant. Tell us what kind of tea you like or cereal or fruit you might like in the morning and we will see that it is there. The NeighborhoodThe Westcott / University neighborhoods proximity to Syracuse University makes for a diverse community, with many of its residents being Syracuse University students, many international, and others being more lower-income to middle class permanent residents. Westcott Street is the colorful main retail street of the neighborhood, and it features restaurants and stores. Once a year the neighborhood is home to the Westcott Street Cultural Fair. Westcott is home to Thornden Park, one of the largest parks in Syracuse. The Westcott neighborhood is the boyhood home of renowned banjoist Tony Trischka We have the Syracuse Coop just down the street, about 3 blocks away. You can get a lot of healthy groceries there, great cheeses, local roasted coffee and local brewed beer. There is a Tops, a more conventional grocery store in the neighborhood. Getting AroundWhile our home is easy walking distance to SU and the Westcott area the city is very bike friendly. Public transportation is available with bus stops a block away from the house. Other Things to NoteThe house heat is set up for working people. In other words, the heat goes on early so the house is warm while we get ready to go to work. It goes down about 8:30am until 3:30pm when it warms back up. It drops down again at 10:30pm. Each room has a stand alone heater. Please feel free to use it to make yourself comfortable. If you are going to stay home during the day just let me know and I will make sure that the house stays warm for you.
