In the deep south of Morocco in the Draa Valley Region the Sahara Desert is a beguiling wilderness of palm-filled oases, vast sand dunes, ancient lake-beds, camel caravans and men in blue. Spread out over hectares of dune and date palm strewn Sahara each tent offers a private wilderness experience with a breathtaking view.
Designed specifically for desert use, deluxe and VIP tents have sewn-in ground sheets (to keep out sand) and are covered with Berber rugs. Tents are high enough to stand tall and are furnished with bedside tables, solar-dynamo powered lanterns, a table, chairs and luggage rack. Designed for desert conditions each tented suite thoughtfully blends stylish Moroccan interior fabrics and furnishings into a classic sub-Saharan influenced walk-in safari tent, creating a very comfortable private sleeping place.
Hot bush showers can be enjoyed in the privacy of the VIP and deluxe ensuite tents. Each of these tents have private use of its own bio-toilet - an environmentally friendly solution, ideal for wilderness locations. A solar panel harnesses energy from the sun, ensuring a noise-free environment, hot water and power for re-charging batteries. Solar-powered lanterns and candles are used in tandem to create atmospheric evenings in camp. A camp fire is de-rigueur.
Meals are enjoyed either alfresco or inside a dining tent which also doubles as a salon; for convivial social gatherings to perhaps enjoy a bottle or two of the local Sahara Reserve wine or pot of mint tea. All meals are freshly prepared in a traditional Moroccan style with a choice of meat and vegetarian tagines and couscous for dinner, salads or picnics for lunch (depending on the activity of the day) and Moroccan pancakes, freshly baked bread, local jam and honey for breakfast.
Active days exploring the Sahara and comfortable nights under a vast African starlit sky provide the essence of this unique Moroccan desert experience.
Our tents are large enough to welcome parents and two children whilst the desert environment is safe for kids under the watchful eye of their parents.
For the budget conscious traveller our Berber Nomad Tents are our smallest tents – authentic and typically the design favoured by nomads made from brown camel hair. These tents are simply furnished with carpet, small table, solar-powered lamp/candles, mattresses on the floor with sheets, blankets and pillow. Toilet/washing facilities are shared with other Berber Nomad Tent guests.
This camp suits travellers who seek a high degree of privacy and a true wilderness experience far removed from the crowds of tourists which stay in the large commercial 'bivouac-style' camps with shared facilities.
