The SpaceAlaska-tough made yurt: the Alaska version of a traditional Mongolian nomadic home. Yurt life is much more connected to nature than conventional accommodation; connect to your surroundings;to the sky, trees and song birds thru the skydome.) Our yurt is in a quiet neighborhood 3 miles from of the village of Talkeetna, surrounded by forests, lakes and rivers. If you would like to explore the village of Talkeetna it is about a 45 minute walk, $5 taxi ride or to have your own wheels (car) is preferable. Ski trails in the winter and running/biking trails in the summer in all directions. Comfy, cozy and heated with woodstove, enjoy being close to nature and watch the stars, aurora and woods through the skydome from bed. We are walking distance to an organic coffee shop/cafe, (Flying Squirrel Cafe) which provides a locally grown vegetable farm stand in the summer. If you are looking for a shower, your best bet is at the Talkeetna Roadhouse, where you get unlimited hot showers, fresh towels and all shower essentials for $5.(Call roadhouse to check their current schedule, all information provided upon arrival to the yurt) The roadhouse is also well known for hand made pies, absurdly large breakfasts, climbing paraphanalia, fireplaces, decades of National Geographic magazines and travelers from all over the world (as well as grizzled locals). Welcome to rural Alaska! Where even taking a shower is a social event! The yurt is a small, one room home with a porch and propane grill. Perfect for a couple. Electricity, but no running water. Facilities are an old fashioned outhouse. No shower. Our yurt is not fancy; but is a slice of the satisfaction of rustic Alaskan life, near civilization, but not quite there. Find out how comfortable you can be, simply. Relax in a quiet neighborhood, a short distance from the village itself. The Talkeetna area has an array of activities; hiking, biking, fishing, rafting, ziplining, canoeing, backcountry access, jet boating, flight seeing and during the winter skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and ice fishing. Talkeetna is the starting point for Denali/McKinley expeditions, and is famous for our close up, open views of the entire Alaska Range and Denali. The village has a number of restaurant options; pizza, brewery pub, coffee shop, old fashioned roadhouse style cooking, high end lodge dining and a selection of gourmet food carts in the summer. Your host Brian, is the head brewer at the Denali Brewing Company and can advise you on fresh, local brews. Talkeetna is well known for its lively bar, music and arts scene. Every Friday, May thru August, the Denali Arts Council hosts live outdoor music in the downtown park. Don't forget to support local artists at the craft market, artisans cooperative (EMAIL HIDDEN)e experience the quirky community of Talkeetna; a village 14 miles at the roads end; where life begins! The SpaceThe logs have a fresh peeled look that makes the Majestic light and spacious. These trees were over 130 years old and harvested as part of the forest management plan addressing the spruce beetle problem affecting many NW forests. Guest AccessIt's all yours for the time you are there. We built the Majestic as a family summer vacation home and decided to share it with others. It has everything we wanted in it and I've been told it is the "most well appointed" home a guest has visited. Interaction with GuestsHaving lived and traveled in Alaska since 2000, I am happy to talk with you about the Talkeetna Majestic, visiting Talkeetna or your Alaskan vacation. The NeighborhoodA 10 minute walk to the restaurant, shops and activities of "Beautiful Downtown Talkeetna" -- which is about 6 blocks long! At the end of Main Street you can find the Talkeetna River and a breathtaking, awe inspiring view of Denali / Mt. McKinley. Getting AroundPeople arrive in Talkeetna by car, train or bus and once you're here t's easy to walk all over as the town is very small. There is a taxi service (1 car) and you may call to see if he's available or make a reservation. Other Things to NoteWhen she was 78, "Granny" an Alaskan Homesteader, decided she wanted a "log cabin" so her grandson and I spent 5 years of summers creating the Majestic. Granny and her husband homesteaded on the Kenai River in (URL HIDDEN) where she still lives today.

OFF THE GRID, AND AWAY FROM THE CROWDS! Caribou Lodge is a fly-in lodge and only accessible by bush plane or helicopter. Just a short flight from the famous little town of Talkeetna. The lodge is nestled in the foothills of the Talkeetna Mountains on a remote lake just southeast of Denali National Park. We are actually closer to DENALI than the park headquarters. There are 2 outhouses, and a shower house for all guests. There is NO indoor plumbing in the guest cabins. The location of the lodge is right at tree line where the Taiga forest gives way to the Alpine tundra. With the lodge sitting on the only privately-owned piece of land within miles and given the fact that the lake is surrounded by undevelopable state land, we do have this beautiful piece of paradise and the lake all to ourselves.. The lodge offers fantastic views of DENALI and the Alaskan Range to the west and to the east overlooking the lake stands the beautiful Talkeetna Mountains. Wildlife is generally good in the area. Caribou, moose, grizzly bears, sheep, black bears, wolves, coyotes, fox, wolverine, ermine, otters, eagles, short-eared owls, ptarmigan, ducks, loons, Canadian geese, and swans have all been observed from the comfort of the lodge and the cabins. Do keep in mind, it is wild country as it was meant to be. We are NOT located in a national park or a game preserve. Wildflowers abound mid July through early August, berries come ripe about then as well. We know this country and wildlife well and enjoy sharing the experience with a limited number of guests. For many, we are THE highlight of their Alaskan Vacation. We will do our best to be yours. Don't miss us! We are a small and personal operation, some say its like your own "Denali Park without the crowds", Caribou Lodge offers a relaxed learning experience with an Alaskan wilderness family. Again, we are a fly in lodge and can make all flight arrangements for you if you desire. Please contact us for reservations, space is limited. We hope to see you here!! Base Rate of $340 per person per day plus $2.50 bed tax. Based on double occupancy. Two-day minimum stay. 2 Days / Nights - $680 plus $5.00 Bed Tax Per Person 3 Days / Nights - $1,020 plus $7.50 Bed Tax Per Person 4 Days / Nights - $1,360 plus $10.00 Bed Tax Per Person 5 Days / Nights - $1,700 plus $12.50 Bed Tax Per Person 6 Days / Nights - $2,40 plus $15.00 Bed Tax Per Person Single Guest Rate - $470 Per Day Plus $2.50 Bed Tax. Children Under 12 years of age - $270.00 Per Day Plus $2.50 Bed Tax. The Lodge sits in a SUPERB location on a remote lake above timberline East of Denali high in the Talkeetna Mountains. It is Alaskan Wilderness at its best. A short flight out of Talkeetna by floatplane in summer and ski-plane in winter. Hiking, backpacking treks, photography, wildlife watching, snowshoeing in winter, northern lights. Learn about life in the wilderness with our family.
