The SpaceTwo private and quiet bedrooms in our upper level to choose from. Each room with a gorgeous view of farmland and the Catoctin Mountains. This listing is for the Catoctin room, which has a Queen bed, a love seat that pulls out to a single bed, a dresser and a huge closet that could double as a place for a baby or toddler. We have a porta-crib or an mattress on the floor for a toddler. Fits a family of 3 comfortably. You will have access to the next door den area that has an extra bed (that can be rented for an extra person-extra charge), a DVD player with Roku for streaming movies and a mini fridge. (see our other listings for more rooms) All share a hallway bathroom with a shower stall, sink and toilet. Relax on the wrap-around porch. Sunbathe by the in-ground pool. Access to the tea and coffee stations and some shared kitchen privileges-refrigerator, sink, etc. The Living Room has many comfy places to relax and read by the wood-stove. We have a full library to find that perfect book. There is a lovely path around the woods, or hang out in the hammock. Sorry no pets, we have enough of our own! This is a working micro farm , so we are out and about tending critters or working in the garden. We will be here and available for anything you may need. The best part of staying at Dodson's PLF is the peacefulness of our place. We are off the road, so no car noises. You can take walks in the country and you may not see a soul, but maybe some deer and squirrels! We are a bird-watchers paradise, too. Lots of woodpeckers, and other native birds. If you stay here you should plan trips to the Gettysburg museum, or the Catoctin Mountain Parks for a hike, go Skiing at Ski Liberty, or visit a local Winery, but also plan some time to relax on the farm. We provide fresh clean linens and towels, and a delicious hot farm breakfast custom made for you. If you book three nights, we will throw in a home-style dinner, shared together around our dinner table of items mostly from our own farm. We believe in local sources for food, soaps, art, etc., so that will be part of your experience. We are perfectly set up for families and even new parents with babies. If you come into BWI airport or Dulles you will need to rent a car to get around this area. We are 1.25 hours from both airports. Try and arrange your arrival off hours of rush hour. Gettysburg and Frederick MD are about 30 mins from our house. Washington DC and Baltimore, MD are about an hour and a half. We do have pets in the house, our two Chis, who we breed, so occasionally we have puppies around. Our outside guard dog Bodie keeps the critters safe, so you may hear him bark occasionally. In Fall: The Catoctin Colorfest in Thurmont in October is great event in our area and the fall views are spectacular. I can give you a tour map to the local orchards for a perfect fall tour of the area's spectacular views. You can also schedule classes for wool fiber arts like spinning and knitting, skills in baking whole wheat bread, skills like canning and gardening, farmsteading skills like managing livestock, milking and making milk products or fermenting basics. Min 3 people. Fees are charged for these classes. Guest AccessEnjoy all the benefits of our home! You are welcomed to the pool area, the porch, there is a lovely trail through the woods and a long gravel lane to walk. We have many cozy spots indoors to sit and read. The tea and coffee bar are always open to enjoy. Access to the den is included unless it is being rented. The den has a small fridge, a DVD player with Roku for streaming, toys for kids and single bed. Some limited kitchen privileges, ex. if you need to put food or drinks in the refrigerator. Meander the gardens and come meet the farm critters. Grab a book from the library and immerse yourself in some quiet time in a shady spot on the porch. You will be sharing the upstairs hall bathroom with other guests. If you have children who want to enjoy the pool, an adult must always be in the gated area. No glass in the pool area. Interaction with GuestsThis is our home and our business, so we will available on-site to help you with whatever we can to make your stay pleasurable. This hand-made earth-sheltered cottage is a cozy creative energy-efficient getaway - surrounded by woods, and a rural landscape - some have likened it to a hobbit house. Most of our guest over the past year have been couples - many celebrating anniversaries, many just having a retreat to the countryside. The cottage is located 15 miles south-east of Gettysburg on a 100 acre farm where the property managers live in an1848 brick farm house. Guests are welcomed to hike trails that follow two creeks, pass through woods and around farm fields. Or just sit in the gazebo and enjoy the private view of Bear Branch creek - often the attraction for wildlife. There is a fire pit next o the cottage for a romantic outside evening before retiring to your handmade chestnut/walnut bed. Be sure and read the reviews! Hope to see you soon. The Little Round House is in the rolling countryside of north-central Maryland about 15 miles southeast of Gettysburg. The quaint little town of Taneytown is one mile away, therefore shopping and restaurants are very convenient despite the very rural feel of the property. Some of the local attractions our guests enjoy include the Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg, Antietam, Harpers Ferry and Manassas. Other attractions include Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Many sites in and around Washington D.C., historic cities of Westminster & Frederick, MD, hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail and Lancaster, PA (Amish country). Right next door to the site is the Adventures Paint Ball Park for those who like to participate in a non-lethal battle.

The SpaceDown a long lane in Adams County horse country, our 140-year-old farmhouse offers spacious, sunlit rooms and a wide front porch for relaxing. In summer whirling ceiling fans and a brisk westerly breeze keep you cool, while in winter you can cozy up to the blazing wood stove or snuggle under your heated blanket. All year long we are blessed with birdsong and the wide sky of the Appalachian piedmont. A Dark Star farm stay combines the tranquility of rural life with the sophistication of big-city cuisine. Both Lou and Jackie are professional chefs dedicated to cooking pure food from sustainable sources. In season most of our ingredients are fresh from the garden or sourced from neighboring farms. Caveat for the allergic: we have cats and dogs in the house, horses in the barn, and a wide variety of insects and wild critters on the property. This is a farm: here be dust, dirt, and manure - which we do our best to keep outside. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to roam the property, visiting the garden, chicken house, and horse pasture. Walk down the lane and wade in Conewago Creek. In season our guests can visit Littlestown Borough's sparkling clean, uncrowded municipal pool. Interaction with GuestsWhen you arrive, a Dark Star host will be on the property to welcome you to the farm and help you with anything you need. Once settled, come and go as you please; the house is accessible at all times. Guests booking dinner (starting at $25 per person) are welcome to join the family for a meal, or may dine privately in their own space. We can help you plan your itinerary of local highlights. The NeighborhoodLocated about 12 miles from Gettysburg, Dark Star Farm is ideal for those who like to visit this historic town but want to avoid tourist traps. Near the Maryland border, we are only a short trip away from Frederick County and lesser-known Civil War battle sites. Adams County and its surroundings boast many outdoor attractions, such as wineries, farm tours, walking trails, and the National Apple Harvest Festival in fall. Getting AroundAs in any rural setting, Dark Star visitors get around by car. Other Things to NoteDinner at Dark Star Farm Evening meals must be reserved at least one week in advance. Choose from our list of menus or confer with us to plan a custom meal just for you. Three-course meals begin at $25.00 per person; bring your own wine. We can accommodate up to 6 dinner guests. For a more leisurely ride you can take the back roads and enjoy the scenery. You will still be able to get to the many local attractions with ease. Other Things to NotePlease respect my privacy and do not enter the remaining second floor rooms. CABLE: At the moment I do not have cable/ satellite connected in the guest rooms. If you need to check the news or weather reports, the first floor living room has Direct TV. Feel free if I am not working from home to watch TV in there. The TV's in the guests area are set up to watch DVDS. I also have a huge collection of traditional games- non electronic. Feel free to set up a game on a card table or in the dining room. Games are in the 1st floor family room in the cabinets as well as in the third floor living room and second floor guest room. SHOWER 3rd FLOOR: To turn on the shower turn the water to full cold. Lift the diverter and pivot. Once the shower has engaged set desired temperature. Turn lever at the top of the shower for hand held or shower head only. Doors to the stairs may be left open. If using a space heater on the 1st or second floor please close doors to the hall. **Turn off all space heaters when leaving the house no matter the duration you will be gone.** **Turn off all central air and heat units (3rd floor) when leaving for more than an hour. ** CIELING FAN and Window Fans: Guest living room- There is a pull chain to turn off the light and adjust the fan speed. To operate dryer- place your clothing inside, push start, choose your setting, push start again. BATHROOMS/ GUEST SHOWER: The shower for guests is located on the third floor. I ask that all guest use this shower. (Exceptions may apply when third floor is booked long term or as a suite for a private group) All guest are welcome to use the half bath on the first floor as needed. Guest staying on the second floor may also use the lavatory on the second floor. It is not necessary to trek up to the third floor in the middle of the day or night.
